May as well get this underway with training camp starting and preseason just about to get underway.
The road to Lord Stanley’s Cup begins again in just a few weeks. The summer of the RFA is coming to an end and many are still unsigned, although that will likely change by October 1st, maybe sooner.
After a crazy playoffs this past season, anything is possible in the NHL and picking a winner at the start of the season is literally a shot in the dark. The last place team could come back and win it all and the curse of the President’s Trophy is more apparent than ever. But, as always, the question remains:
Who do you think wins it all this year? Which teams will surprise? Which will disappoint? What do you expect from your team? Are you happy or sad going into this season?
Discuss!

Whos dick do I got to suck to get a Houston NHL team? Its like what the fuck?!? I’ve been told that after Seattle, Houston is next in line because it’s such a huge market, and Vegas working out means the NHL would be stupid not to go there. Canadians will be pissed but it’s what I’ve heard. Might be 4 or 5 years still but hey. ... Marner has signed. 6 years, 10.893 million per. That’s...not ideal. But, like I’ve said, I’d rather overpay young superstars than do whatever the fuck it was the Leafs were doing the decade leading up to drafting these kids. And most of the 90s. And the 70s and 80s....ugh this team has been so bad. You all got paid. You’re all great players. You have a chance to become legends. Do the thing. Earn your money. Let’s fucking go!

Yeah they got a team joining the league next season. We tried to get season tickets (we’re about a 4.5 hr drive from Seattle) and were planning on re-selling a bunch. Didn’t pan out. Rumour has it they’re going to be called the Seattle Sockeyes. I kind of like it tbh. There’s a running joke on reddit that the team is nicknamed the Rain City Bitch Pigeons. Someone made t-shirts and I bought one. www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/3981152-rain-city-bitch-pigeons

Rumours floating around Winnipeg is that Big Buff is going to retire now. Day before training camp it came out that he asked for a leave for personal reasons. Almost no info, other than it's not "sinister" (ie drugs), and all of his family is of good health. Time will tell, but if the man chooses to retire, good on him. Hockey has always seemed like a hobby for Buff, he loves to fish, and hunt, and camp. Jets are essentially icing Josh Morrissey and an AHL caliber defense group as it stands. Going to be a long season. Coach Momo is garbage. Assuming Laine and Connor sign, I would be all out offense with our group of forwards and garbage defensemen. I'm currently in the middle of my season ticket draw. I have 10 games this year. So far have the Edmonton game so I can see Connor McJesus play in person finally. Grabbed a random afternoon game in December before my son turns 2 so I can take him for free. Somehow ended up with the Montreal and Toronto games too as my 3rd and 4th picks. I probably won't go to them, there's a HUGE re-sellers market here for those two games, so I'll make a nice profit. How about those slick new jerseys? TAKE MY MONEY

Oh yeah, hockey season, guess it's time to bring out the Vancouver Canucks jersey again. Speaking of which, I'll have to find myself a Tyler Myers Canucks jersey as well now.
Is it asking too much for them to make the playoffs this year?

Latest comments from Laine to Finnish press indicate he will not play another game for the Jets. He sounded like total dick and threw his linemates under the bus.

Now Buff's talking about retiring. Forget a playoff run, the Jets are gonna be in rebuild mode now with all the piece that are, and are gonna be gone.

What's Laine's deal? I've not heard of this story til now. Quote was taken out of context and sensationalized for page hits apparently. Laine was wearing Jets gear today and reached out and apologized to teammates (especially Little) to tell them what he really said. And yeah...BigBuff news is not surprising. We all knew it earlier. Pretty sure I mentioned that 4 days ago.

Jokes aside I’ll be sad if Buff actually retires. He’s a fun player to watch.
And Laine is going to ink a 3 or 4 year deal any day now. You watch.

I don't care for more expansion. I would love it if Arizona and Florida got relocated to Quebec City and Seattle respectively.

Fuck it. Let’s see how long this lasts. Might keep score, might not, depends on participation. Fun no matter what, yeah?
Hockey Night In Canada - Oct. 5, 2019 Toronto @ Montreal NYR @ Ottawa Carolina @ Washington New Jersey @ Buffalo Columbus @ Pittsburgh Tampa Bay @ Florida Dallas @ St. Louis Detroit @ Nashville Minnesota @ Colorado Boston @ Arizona San Jose @ Anaheim Los Angeles @ Edmonton Vancouver @ Calgary
Pick the winner and final score. If you want to go one further predict who scores first, although we never really did that in the past. Your call. This is going to be the laid back version.

CAPTAIN JOHNNY T
I was hoping he’d get it. Rielly would have been nice but I feel like he doesn’t want the extra attention. He’s pretty laid back and likes to mouth off to journalists once in a while.
I’m curious how true the rumours are about Matthews though. Everyone was convinced he was getting it, then suddenly the rumours changed to “Tavares all along!” after the incident in Scottsdale. I’m guessing keeping that from management tipped the scales in Tavares’ favour, which whatever. Nobody cares who the captain is when you’re CUP CHAMPIONS.
Ugly start but it’s been all Leafs since. Just gotta bury one and open the flood gates. Let’s go boys.

If I get bored enough one of these days I'll tally up the scores, but since this is the NHL and its goofy and impossible to predict you're lucky if you get 5 points total in a round.
1 point correct winner, 1 point correct final score, 1 point correct first scorer? I think that's good enough.
