I like Ferris Buellers Day Off a ton but it barely missed my final cuts , which puts it at probably the same spot on this list as well. Its a classic for a generation and I remember it being on TBS constantly back in the day and chances were if you pulled a Ferris and took a day off - you would catch this movie on television.

Yikes that’s pretty low. There better be some goddamn gems ahead of this movie.
I had it at #8 on my list. It started higher but fell out a bit as I added more movies.

As I am listening to Oh Yeah by Yello as I type this...
Ferris Bueller missed my list as well. There's just something about both the script and the comedy that doesn't quite click with me like other John Hughes movies do. There are a good 5 films I like more from his catalog.

Ferris to me was good, but not quite great, so it was a late cut from my list.

I'm with the folks who cut Ferris. Think Wife had it somewhere on hers. I like to think Ferris grew up to become Broderick's character in Election for some sweet poetic justice.

Haven't seen Ferris in years, but another one of those awesome TV movies. Great soundtrack and knows to mind it's P's and Q's. Certainly not a top 10 of a decade, but I'm not upset it made the cut.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is awesome, had I sent in a list, it would have ranked on it for sure (unlike the other movies).

Great flick, but add me to the list of late cuts, probably right where I would have had it.

I love WHMS , I watched it probably a year or so ago for a countdown and have already went back to it twice. It's just such a perfect romcom , great performances from the lead and the supporting cast , funny and full of heart and most importantly... honesty. The movie doesn't sit there and blow smoke up your ass for a large part of it or for the sake of comedy , it's truthful in all the best ways. I had to make room for it at the end of my list and ended up putting it at #13. Give it a few more years and I would put it even higher.

So fucking good! Glad it made the list, and this placement feels acceptable... Especially considering what has already made the list. Had Wife watch this for the first time ever early this year, and she appreciated the magic as well. So good.

Surprised this placed at all. I watched it as a new release VHS in 1989 and have had no desire to revisit it since even when I had a significant other to watch it with.

Only familiar with the orgasm scene and was kinda hoping that's the whole movie, just 2 hours of banter over dinner.

I watched it once and it bored me. It isn't a movie I'd own or watch again. Best part of the whole thing was the supporting characters.

Solid enough flick, can't say that I love it, though it is Crystal and Ryan at their best.

Raging Bull has came up a ton , I'm sick of it on the lists. It's a great movie and piece of art and I'm happy I watched it for the powerhouse performances of Bobby D. and ESPECIALLY Pesci but it barely missed my list. I just don't have the same connection with it as I do so many of the movies of the 80's. I honestly did think it would be higher than #15 though.
ET is magical , I know there is a subset of people out there who trash this movie now in hindsight and they can all suck a fat egg as far as I'm concerned. Recently rewatching this you can see why this movie was such a treasure in the decade and why in a lot of peoples eye's it's a classic. Spielberg crushed it , crushed the story , the kids acting , the heart , the adventure ... it's great and made my #11.

Wife apparently loves ET. I fucking hate it, can't stand it. Creeped me out as bad as Tim Burton's shit did as a kid. Which Wife also apparently loved. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. If forced to choose though, I think I'd still take ET over the boredom-inducing Raging Bull.

ET ended up at 7 on my list. I was a little surprised that it fell out of my top 5. I absolutely loved it as a kid. Probably because I haven’t watched it in a long time.

Raging Bull was #10 on my list. As a work of art, it probably would be #1, but as entertainment there were easily 9 more movies I enjoyed more and my list was based more on entertainment.
ET didn't make my list, as I didn't care for it much even as a child. I completely get why it's on here though, it was easily THE family film of my generation. Only a tiny handful of films in the 80's had a bigger cultural impact.

Raging Bull was my number 6, just a clinic put on by Scorsese in the director's chair. It really set itself apart from most 80's films beyond it's use of black white but also great in-ring POV's and unique sound effects.
E.T. was my number 14 mostly for sentimental reasons. I enjoyed it much more as a kid but it left too much of a mark to not make the list.

Both could have easily made my list, neither did, nothing really more to say, great flicks, I just went a different way.

I was a little surprised to see Beetlejuice make it , it was I think #14 or #15 on my list and I'm too lazy to go back and look but it made a ton of lists. It's really a tour de force by Keaton who puts on an incredible and iconic performance as both menacing and hilarious. Not to say there isn't an awesome supporting cast with Baldwin , Davis , Ryder (especially) , Jones and O'Hare - all just a great collection of characters that were pulled together masterfully by Burton.
#13 seems fair to me. There are better and even more iconic movies of the decade but Beetlejuice and Keaton definitely made their mark on the decade.

Then I read the post I just thought up several posts lower. Freaky. Except I didn't even put Raging Bull on my list because it has come up so much. I enjoyed 15+ more 80s movies more than it, but arguably none are better works of art.
