I either have to deal with the people who want to be the Covid police and get upset when someone slips their mask down for 5 seconds or tell someone at the bar to put their mask on and they have a meltdown as if they can’t just take it off when they sit down and I don’t have to wear it my whole shift. 95% of patrons don’t wear them correctly anyway.

I don’t know how medical staff do it, definitely a source of my irritable mood atm.

We got a name, renamed to Omicron Variant. This one will either be a big deal or mutate itself to extinction. Shows signs that it can escape protection from current vaccinations, has a higher reinfection rate and mutating rapidly means it is hard to plan for. We shall take this into the US, and give it a loving home where it can reach it's full potential I assume.

Article in Science I missed, showed that the six month effectiveness of vaccines is only 50%. They also found that the 8 week double dose was misguided, and it should have been at least three months apart. Many now believe we will need vaccines at least every 6 months until another breakthrough in viral vaccination occurs, which could be years away.

The 8 week double dose was effective in a pandemic situation, but now is no longer effective in an endemic situation. Realistically we should be doing doses every three months to keep protection levels as high as possible. But logistically no more than every six months is likely what we will be stuck with. If done this way, at best we can achieve a 50% herd protection level.

Also shows that the breakthrough cases are not breakthroughs, the viruses are not passing immunity, the immunity simply is no longer there. Yay for media reporting on science, while not understanding the science they are reporting on or trying to.

Initial reports suggest the new variant is much more infectious with only mild symptoms, there is no exosion of cases in Africa.

So my sister feels much better later of the week and Cvoid is gone that she plus her kids take a test and they all test negative this past Friday my mom was wondering what the doctor give her to treat Cvoid and no my sister didn’t go to the hospital she didn’t have trouble breathing after all btw

I was there from 11:50am-9:30pm. My work is huge so I may not have come into contact with them (may have been in gaming/separate bar)
but odds are I did as I worked the main bar.

Don’t have to test unless I get any symptoms so hopefully all good.

Fun times in the US. 10 states just won a court case so healthcare workers do not need to be vaccinated against COVID. Judge said the vaccines are not effective enough to justify forcing them to take them.

We have 6 or 7 confirmed cases just in Australia.
I'm happy about it, Omnicron is more virulent but essentially a cold. It will replace Delta and we get heard immunity.

Would not be shocked if there are thousands.  Expect it to pop everywhere like Delta did.  And frankly, be better off right now if this replaced Delta as even with mutations, Delta was a nasty variant, this one is a lot tamer to start.

Problem with this variant is many in the US want it to spread for political reasons, so we will mutate it hard mostly.  Have no idea what it will look like when it starts to infect hundreds of thousands are start to recombine.  Real coin flip if we are fucked or if this variant mutates itself into a harmless form.  We got lucky so far with Alpha and Delta being fairly stable variants.  This one looks more volatile.  And lets face it, the US is can barely handle a stable virus, an unstable one we are not at all prepared for.
