Shit jokes aside, the outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern  by the World Health Organization with the 11 Million strong city of Wuhan, China is under lockdown. With an estimated five million people leaving the city before the lockdown begun. 

With 10,000 confirmed cases and deaths totally 213, is this the fabled zombie virus? The end of the world? Or simply, is there a conspiracy by the United States to weaken China?

Yeah but if you attach a new , scarier name to it then all of a sudden it becomes an epidemic and the world is fucked. Everything I've read said it's pretty much the flu.

Not really, this is totally narrow minded way of looking at this.

Influenza has a r0 of 1.2 to 1.6
Coronavirus is 2 ro 4.something

Meaning it is a minimum of twice as contagious.
What is more alarming is that someone has to cough or sneeze on you while sick to get the flu, and best evidence to date coronavirus is infectious in the two weeks before someone displays symptoms.
This is frightening because someone can infect someone who infects someone who infects someone else before there is knowledge that the first person is sick.

As for mortality, is is hard to know other than to say coronavirus is far more deadly.
0.05% of people who get the flu will die of it.

These are the current numbers for coronavirus in China:
Confirmed cases 14,462
Very serious 2,110
Dead 304 
Recovered 328

So there are almost as many dead as recovered.
If nobody else died it would be a 2.3% mortality rate... And other people are going to die.
And I think the number dead is way underestimated, I think that getting the sick tested and the dead buried has already spiraled out of control.

Also remember that this is a new virus meaning there's no cure or vaccine. You can get a flu shot if you're someone that could die from the flu to protect yourself. You can't get a coronavirus shot, at least not yet.

My sister has basically no immune system. If she caught coronavirus she'd be a goner. She gets a flu shot every year.

Don't think I've ever gotten a flu shot. Maybe when I was in basic if it was part of the 30 injections they gave me but I've never gone out to get one on purpose.

Kid is right though, this can be serious.  The last Coronavirus that popped up in the middle east neared a 10 percent mortality rate and 15 percent of people admitted to an ER with this so far have died.  I been wanting to get into epidemiology, in particular disease tracking and prediction and this is the first real epidemic to hit since then so been following it closely.  Early models are looking like this will take a lot of lives before it is through.

What is scaring the shit out of people is the ability for this is transmit without symptoms. Means containment is nearly impossible. Still estimating a 2 percent mortality rate which is pretty crazy. Reading my facebook looks like people are already getting vaccinated by the vaccine Trump helped developed. This coupled with the complete containment Trump announced last week surely means that this is over. Plus the heat will totally stop everything.

I was getting that cold inner body feeling yesterday and developed a bad cough. Last night I was freezing and couldn’t lay still in bed. I’ve taken Tylenol and Tamiflu and am trying to fight it.
