I will be thousands of dollars that you whave well into the hundreds of Omnicron cases at a minimum You don't do genomic testing, so you wouldn't know. We have 6 or 7 confirmed cases just in Australia. I'm happy about it, Omnicron is more virulent but essentially a cold. It will replace Delta and we get heard immunity. [/my prediction] Would not be shocked if there are thousands. Expect it to pop everywhere like Delta did. And frankly, be better off right now if this replaced Delta as even with mutations, Delta was a nasty variant, this one is a lot tamer to start. Problem with this variant is many in the US want it to spread for political reasons, so we will mutate it hard mostly. Have no idea what it will look like when it starts to infect hundreds of thousands are start to recombine. Real coin flip if we are fucked or if this variant mutates itself into a harmless form. We got lucky so far with Alpha and Delta being fairly stable variants. This one looks more volatile. And lets face it, the US is can barely handle a stable virus, an unstable one we are not at all prepared for. I did some reading on this and viruses almost always mutate to become less deadly and more transmissible. With any luck Covid ends up like the cold, which is also a Corona virus.

That is an outdated view on viral mutation that is spread in right wing circles that has been debunked countless times by experts. Kelly Victory is not a virologist nor an expert in viruses or certified to practice medicine at all. Nature published when this myth started that this view on evolution is just not right. www.nature.com/articles/s41564-020-0690-4

Omicron now being found in several states. Contract tracing shows it passed through NYC. So basically was already here. MAGA little virus, MAGA!!!
COVID mortality rates now completely split. In urban areas with civilized healthcare it it has a low mortality rate that is dropping. In rural areas, it is increasing in lethality.
This is it people, no more vaccines, no more protocols, no more masks, lets just let this virus do what God intends it to do!!! Take the safety wheels off!!!
On track to hit a million dead by spring.

Omicron is the first COVID variant that was cross mutated. Shares genetic material with COVID and another coronavirus that produces cold symptoms. First hybrid variant basically that merged with a second virus, something that people believed would occur sooner or later. Due to the cold virus being merged with it, Omicron likely will spread far faster than Delta did.

Fight in the US to mail people at home COVID tests every month or so people can be safe and comply with weekly COVID testing at their jobs. Unreal. Right now insurance companies will reimburse the costs of tests, but that is not good enough and people want the tests mailed to people preemptively. Pretty much the only people getting tests regularly though are the unvaccinated.

In US been noticing a lot of stories when I read my daily soaps of political news that employers are finally doing the mass firing of the unvaccinated. Looks like companies are done with anti-vax people. For companies not firing people they are passing off the increase costs of treating COVID onto the unvaccinated and making them pay 100 to 200 more a month for insurance.
While the vaccine mandate is likely to end, companies are free to keep their personal mandates and courts have rejected vaccine mandate bans on businesses as denial of corporate rights to run the business.

It's still early days and we don't have a lot of data, but a more virulent but essentially harmless virus is exactly what we need to replace Delta. The irony is that moving to keep Omnicron out of cou tries may actually cause more deaths from Delta.

It is actually more harmful to the vaccinated since the vaccines rapidly lose effectiveness against it. It is only less harmful to the unvaccinated. As as it spreads it is likely to pick up random mutations and had a strong potential to get more dangerous.

Seems to be the filter you see very thing through. To me the glass is neither half full or half empty, the glass is simply twice as large as it needs to be.

Hospitals in the US in many places over 100 percent capacity again. Guard deployed in NY, NH and Maine to aid in treating the sick. Guard expected to be deployed in a dozen more states this week.
Vaccinated people dying, 75% of hospitalizations being the vaccinated in some areas. Christmas travel expected to spread Omicron nationally.
120,000 new cases a day and 1400 deaths from COVID daily in the US.
But I guess everything is fine and COVID is harmless now and the dead need to just stop being so fucking dramatic. Or wait what is the line now, it is only killing people with prior conditions, so if you have never been sick before or had any medical problems you are totally fine right? I mean facebook memes say the virus got weaker with Delta and weaker with Omicron so surely it will just go away in the spring.

Looks like most New England is moving to vaccine passports via cellphones. We be done with the virus. New Jersey, New York, CT, Mass, and RI all have apps coming out or already out run by the state.
CT nuked religious exemptions, so curious how this plays out here as most feel religion gives them immunity from any law.

Contentious in the US as you know, FREEDOM!!!
But given we are likely to still be dealing with this in 2025, sure the GOP will just outlaw all vaccination requirements for Americans. One of the few platform items they have left. Be interesting to see how they try to let the rest of the world interact with COVID inflicted Americans. Likely WTO or another group will get leveraged.

I would support the outlawing of vaccine mandates except in circumstances such as critical care nurses or aged care facilities where there are vulnerable people. How you can force someone to take a vaccine to live their lives is bizarre. If I'm not vaccinated I can't shop or work. Yet I can chain smoke cigarettes, which is the greatest harm?

Yeah, about that. Turns out nurses, or more precisely nursing assistants, in the US are extremely anti-vax.
Vaccine mandates in the US date back to smallpox and polio. Both were massive killers in the US and mandates quickly neutered them.
Vaccines also do reduce spread. It blocks the symptomatic spread of large particle transmission. It also saves lives, as the ER load is reduced. Still limited supplies for the sickest of people, and right now they are still going to the people who oppose vaccination. So if you get vaccinated, and get a nasty breakthrough, you are competing with 10 to 20 people who are not vaccinated for transplants, specialized machines and drugs. Right now people want to not wear masks, not get vaccinated, then when they get sick, get the these limited supplies.
For work and shops, both are private businesses, so owners should have the right to decide if they want to be around people who have greater potential to get others sick. For businesses in the US, unvaccinated people drive up employer healthcare costs, results in lost production and in 800k cases, replacing the dead employee and training their replacement. The loss of sales from the unvaccinated does not outweigh the costs of dealing with COVID in a workplace, and for employees, unvaccinated employees are simply not reliable. They are better than having that job remain empty, but you would prefer a vaccinated employee who will not likely be in the hospital in for months if they get sick then come back needing accommodations.

Boomer remover has in the last two years killed 1% of people over 65 in the US. This year will have been the source of over half of all deaths in the US as well.

The problem is not Omnicron in it's current state but concerns of allowing it to spread uncontrolled as it will likely mutate as it spreads, and people often have several variants of it in them at once, as that article states. This means one sized fits all categorization of it is ill-advised as the virus that people get sick with may not be the same one they are spreading.
///
Colorado said fuck it, COVID's medical emergency is over.
"You don't tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to wear it. If they get frostbite, it's their own darn fault. If you haven't been vaccinated, that's your choice. I respect that. But it's your fault when you're in the hospital with COVID."
Curious if they back this financially or if the tax payers there will still be expected to front the cost of treating the unvaccinated.
