This floated through my metascience circle. It will never be published in a real journal. This study was paid for by Collateral Global and used Collateral Global framework. That is a massive conflict of interest.
Also they fail to employ a real lit review method and instead basically just pick articles to present to support Collateral Global preexisting ideas. This is not scientific research, but corporate research. Expect shit like this from undergraduate students, not professionals.
Their conclusions should not be trusted and should wait for someone to do this properly to get a real impact assessment. If there is one, it will emerge as this is a great secondary research topic. But this aint it.

I can't wait for the entry lifted from the dark recesses of reddit to debunk an applied medical anthropologist and implementation scientist, and supported by a professor of microbiology in this particular article.

Believe what you want, but that article is the same as a reddit post as far as science is concerned. It is not peer reviewed, and I review shit like this, and can say both the lack of a formal methodology and the conflict of interest means it will not be published in most journals. He will likely post in a journal that will publish anything provided you pay the $2000 fee.
Edit:
Another major flaw is that article presumes that effects of lockdowns would be the same for the US South with a minimalistic lockdown that was not enforced in any meaningful way and Australia with a total lockdown. That would be a rejection from most reviewers. Either cross section it or narrow in scope. But the author did neither.

It's not as if you've published threads or posts on any of these things...
Rise in non-Covid excess mortality Mental health deterioration Rise in child abuse Rise in domestic violence Widening global inequality Food insecurity Lost educational opportunities Unhealthy lifestyle behaviours Social polarisation Soaring debt Democratic backsliding Declining human rights
Half of them are discussed daily on PW.

If there are real effects then there will be peer reviewed documents. That was not what was posted though.
The minimization of the pandemic is just silly given 7 million died.

I’d grant some of those thing’s probably were made worse by lockdowns. It could also be said though that the pandemic itself could have raised those numbers as well.

Also most are expected during times of increasing inequality and more people are tossed into poverty. Families seeing members disabled or die will also trigger a whole lot of that. Host of issues that some love to reduce to simply lockdowns, when the lockdowns were likely minimal at best once you account for the rest.
But sure our experts commonality analysis or structural equation modeling can chime in more details.

You know, there were a whole lot less trans people before the lockdown than after, maybe the lockdown made everyone trans.
Wait I get it now, COVID was a fake illness that caused people to be stuck inside, while the governments of the world pumped trans causing chemicals into their houses. Alex Jones was right, they did make the frogs gay, then your kids trans.

For an example of how bad conflicts of interests are in research, wave of retractions starting in the autism field after the metascience people outed a researcher with conflicts of interest. Now everything he touched is facing retractions. In the months since this article we are seeing major articles getting retracted. For those not aware once an article is retracted it is considered null and void basically scientifically. Get non-self initiated retractions you also lose your job in academia as your reputation as a scientist is trashed beyond repair. www.discovermagazine.com/mind/editorial-misbehaviour-in-autism-journals

Are you really using the former heroin addict and author of the Twitter files as a source of trusted information? Taibbi rarely writes outside of substack as no other news sites run his stories because they so untruthful they become a liability to run.

Oh you motherfuckers think this was done, oh hell no. COVID is back baby!!! Once again, for reasons unknown, it still seems to mostly be targeting conservatives, leading to hospitals in conservatives areas to see large spikes in patients.
New Eris is rapidly spreading just as America sends kids back to school, which should make for a fun winter. Not entirely sure what this one does yet, but mutations on the spike protean again shows it is still rapidly evolving.
Having likely had this last week, newest symptom is red and itching eyes.
People already vaccinated should not have much to fear from this. Those who refused however better stock up on bleach and horse dewormer. Pandemic is over in the US so you go to the hospital you got to pay yourself now. Average cost of treatment is 40k after insurance pays their part.
And no more free vaccine, yall had your chance. Companies quadrupled the price when it went commercial so 200+ now.

I wish I'd never got vaccinated and incredibly glad my daughter's didn't get the Covid vaccines

People who never got any of the shots in the US they found are being hospitalized more often and for longer periods of time. Well, and are more likely to die. The longer you are hospitalized in the US, the more likely you will be forced to declare bankruptcy due to medical debt as well now the waivers are ended and you will be expected to pay. About 5k a day in medical costs for the unvaccinated if hospitalized. Average stay is over a week. We seen bills break half a million though for unvaccinated people.

So you have already established your contempt for the unvaccinated. How many shots have you had? Are you a dumb rural halfwit who has only had two doses, rather than the 6+ boosters? Why would you judge avoiding the initial shots as foolish, but not the many subsequent ones? I don't know anyone outside of hypochondriac 70+yo's who are still passionate about vaccination and boosters.

Conservative these days is marrying your sister.
///
Thus far update on Eris appears to be slow, but a spike is expected in 4 to 5 weeks as schools open nationally. Likely also why it is hitting the South, they opened schools, whereas the rest of the country waits until Sept. If we get a fall spoke a winter spike is unlikely. Also believed that many people who were vacced will have very little symptoms from this. Natural immunity may not hold as it is an Omicron variant that also evaded natural immunity. Also the immune degradation that occurs from COVID reinfection will likely makes the unvaccinated using natural immunity at risk for severe outcomes.
Boosters in the winter for North America, that will include this variant. Companies have yet to answer why they waited for an outbreak now to make them, but the answer should be obvious, without the government paying, there is no profit in making shit until an outbreak. Companies will have them done in Oct, but full FDA review is expected now the pandemic is over that will push things to late Nov or early Dec. From a prevention standpoint, it means the boosters come too late. Either way after the reaction I had last time, no more boosters here. As I am fairly sure I had this last week, no real point anyway.
Obviously data is North America data, rest of yall can track your stuff. Boosters will be for North America first and will go elsewhere depending on cost.
///
Nasal vaccines are moving along, and these may offer real longterm protect as they will help make the music membrain immune, which will kill the primary vector into the body. So this will give the same protection as the injections, while also weakening the primary vector. Trials for these are preparing to move to human trials. This one works, may be enough for most of us to ignore COVID completely and just let deniers deal with it.

Also I’d like to point out that statically speaking we in the south don’t fuck our cousins any more often than the rest of the country. And for most of us it’s not the sort of thing that will get us fighting mad. Now say our mamaws didn’t fix the best banana puddin at the church social and we’ll beat the fuck out of you. I know I already joked about this but I was itching to use my new banana puddin line.
