There’s no strong argument for closing schools to protect kids. Here the teachers unions are pushing for it to protect the teachers which makes sense, and I guess the kids can spread it to grandparents, but kids aren’t really having a problem with the virus.
I’ve had to spend the last few days getting my team ready to telework. I don’t think we’re particularly set to do so, so I’m spending a lot of time generating assignments in case. As far as I know the only people in the state that have been tested were on a cruise and are about 50/50 on having it but being on immunosuppressants I suppose I’m happy to not be around people.

My company just went to an "employee decision" to telecommute moving forward. They're not shutting down the corporate office, but they have suspended all travel for the time being.

I am very glad you were able to see someone iNCY. I hope your COVID test comes back negative, but please take care of yourself as pneumonia is no laughing matter either. Thank you for your concern, you are very kind. I feel pretty awful today and my chest and back hurt. Day 1 of self isolation 8:10am children wake up 9:04am sign up for Disney+ mikec I get what you're saying, there is no point in half measures. Lock everything but non essential places of business and then have everyone self isolate for 21 days. If someone on your house gets sick, the clock resets. This some things closed but not others is just trying to control the velocity of people entering the ER to a manageable number, not reducing the overall number.

If store shelves do not stock back up in the US we could be days away from riots. Toilet paper prices up to $5 on through gorging. People fighting in stores. Gonna seriously have riots over toilet paper...
Find it ironic that all the things people claim would happen if voted for a socialist are happening now.

For those that aren’t aware, I’m an Assistant Store Manager for Woolworths. I was back on the front lines today, it’s absolutely nuts. Unbelievable the volume of people buying.. everything. Absolutely everything.
This is war time types of crazy. The Nazis have blocked all the ports, there’s nothing coming in types of crazy.
And it forces you to act crazy. We need to buy in bulk now, because there’s little TP, meat, pasta, rices, hygiene products, nappies, etc
The Mrs thinks we have a weeks worth of food in the house, if we’re both isolated at home, I’m eating through that in 2 days.
This is it, the Great Depression of the 2020s. We’ll be paying $300 for a loaf a bread if this continues on.

People are panic buying because they're worried there'll be nothing left because people are panic buying. As countries move closer to lockdown it'll just get worse.
I don't think countries really think they can stop this thing without killing the economy. It'll be a slow burn to herd immunity or a vaccine, whichever is quicker.

I've just been going to the store every day and picking up bits and pieces (food wise) that I can. I managed to snag a few 6-packs of TP rolls a few weeks back, otherwise I'd be fucked there. Obviously trying to ration my last bottles of wipes. Either it's worse elsewhere or I just live in a decent area, but the shelves aren't 100% empty although each day I've gone it's been getting there. Times like these I hate working for the postal service. I'm not out mingling with customers, but I wish we could just close up as it feels like the band going down with the Titanic. Could call off sure, but I kinda wanna see where things are going before I start that train. Maybe once we run out of TP in the office (we're close) and get the word from my supervisor that our system is reporting shortages like the rest of the planet. THEN I'll call off to avoid the mob. I've already taken to locking my office when I leave to avoid anyone stealing the soap.
Also as I headed to self-check out I saw that Enquirer is reporting a cure. Bless them. :jumpjacks:

What could possibly go wrong?

I’m terrified by this and I’m in my 20’s, a non-smoker and in relatively good health.
Meanwhile I see people 50+ parroting that it’s just a cold and to stop overreacting and sharing fake stuff like you can cure it by gargling hot water 🤦🏻♀️.

My wife thought it would be a great idea to make us watch Contagion last night and that movie just did wonders for my anxiety.

I get that kids aren’t as affected by this but it’s said they are also the largest group of carriers. If you are a parent you already know this.
I’m off to the store today as I went late last night and they closed an hour earlier to restock. I thought I was being smart. So now I’m off again during high volume times in order to get a few staples for the week (aka our normal grocery). Then I’m going to the liquor store cause I think I’m going to need it.

Also since the wipes claim 99.9% of viruses and bacteria I'm wondering if corona is simply part of the .01%.

Looks like there's 4 confirmed cases in the city where I work. Yep, I'm dead.
Guess I'll finish Storytime with Ness, which will act as my last will and testament as well.

Contagion was trending #9 overall on Netflix in Canada last night. I haven't looked today so I don't know if it has gone up, but that got a chuckle out of me last night.
Everyone should watch Marc Maron's new special that just dropped. He recorded it last year so it's a little off the mark, but he talks about the world ending and climate change and there's a lot of similarities in the humour. Definitely worth a watch with everything going on.
My wife has a pretty bad cold and I don't feel 100%. We're definitely not infected but our immune systems are shot, which makes going out even harder. I work tomorrow and am taking every precaution with where I'm going. We also have a massive project at a hospital going on right now. We have a bit of a break in the action thankfully, but I expect to be back there in a week or two, and if things continue to get worse that project might be put on hold.
I'm lucky to be in the job I'm in because if there's no work, I get paid to stay home and be on call. It isn't ideal because companies feeling a crunch will do drastic shit, but I don't see any temporary layoffs or anything happening in the near future, so long as we keep doing what we're doing here in Canada.
I'm still worried about after spring break though. I wouldn't at all be surprised if other countries get their shit under control in the next two weeks, only for North America to have a second outbreak because a bunch of privileged assholes flew to a resort.

I don't understand people under 40 worrying about dying tbh. 0.2% mortality rate and that doesn't include the inevitable thousands of undeclared cases because the symptoms were too mild to give a shit about. This is horrible for the elderly and the economy but it isn't killing young people.
The Contagion thing makes me chuckle, then again I've played Plague Inc on repeat most of today. We're a strange race.

But I also hate the uncertainty of society's reaction. If we're shifting to currency of blood and violence, I just want the green light to get the drop on others. What's Plague Inc. though? Sounds interesting/fun.

Cool mobile game where you basically have to eradicate the human race with your own disease. It's basic but fun.
