Please let us know you are okay iNCY . I hope the rest of your family and all of your families are still in good health also. My conference/vacation in Texas got cancelled but rescheduled for May. Hopefully, this will all have come and gone by then. In the meantime, our CEO said business as usual. Fuck if your kids' schools are closed, you drag your ass into work. Leave them at home. The 4 year old can take care of the 2 year old can't they? Just turn on the TV, it'll be fine. You feel like it's unsafe work conditions? We provided you a safe work environment, there's hand sanitizer. What, we're out? Well, there's still no ply toilet paper and freezing cold water (because the water heater is broken) and sometimes even soap. I feel like this has to be all or nothing. You close the borders. Nobody in or out unless dire. You close the stores because while you line up to fight off other panicked people in your quest for shit tickets and canned soup, one of you assholes could be a carrier. What about malls? Hey, the kids have a day off school now so let's drop them off at West Edmonton Mall where they can go to the waterpark and mingle with another couple hundred crotch goblins while I work. This defeats the purpose IMO.

Who’s up for a vBookie on the first one of us to catch it? Well, I work in the kitchen department of a hotel, that's attached to a hospital (said hospital apparently already had someone there that's a confirmed case), and a lot of families stay there when they have a relative staying in the hospital (especially ones coming into the city). So uh can I bet on myself?

@hr, I was thinking of a celebrity deadpool of sorts to see who got it first, I thought twice, as it’s only a matter of time before an influencer, wag or mommy-blogger gets it and endorses a $12 ‘K-Mart hack’ to bet the virus. #sostunningsobrave
Then Tom Hanks got it.

I had to go to the UC today because I think I have bronchitis (my wife had it a few weeks ago).
Sure enough I do but that was an intense visit.

Thanks for the well wishes. In case anyone is planning to get screened for Corona they stick a really long flexible thing all the way up your nostril to your throat... Totally not my favourite thing but less painful than having all the ECG pads ripped off my hairy chest...
So 5hrs later, two sets of blood tests and an Xray shows that I have pneumonia. I have to wait between 1 and 5 days for my coronavirus results and I have to self isolate for 14 days. It's really nice to know I'm not a hypochondriac as aparrently I'm quite sick.

From the thread, 50 years from now. I think the World right now is itching for it. And we may not even realise it. Coming out hardship - another great depression, and with a lot of tension boiling over, it will spark an almighty political and economic land grab by those remaining well-intact. The Americans being Americans will continue to poke and prod at every economic rival until someone like China pokes back. Words will be said, sanctions will be made, and dicks will be swung all over Asia, by both the Chinese and Americans.

If you can, take it easy the next few days until the lung pain is gone. Once that is healed the risk is gone basically. Takes a while sometimes to heal pneumonia so expect this to get better to a point then linger. Pneumonia with meds and rest is not dangerous. Without either, you can literally wear yourself down until your body gives up on itself and your organs just shutdown. In the future, you feel that chest pain again hit the doctor ASAP and tell them it feels like you felt when you had pneumonia as it is a distinctive sort of lung pain. Cuts the BS.

Thanks mate, they told me if I was old I would probably be really unwell, so happy to be classed as young at nearly 42. They said rest and watch my temperature, if it gets hard to breathe or my temp exceeds 38 I have to go back in. My lovely wife went and filled my antibiotic scrip, we should test the kids but I'm not going to unless my test comes back positive, I don't see the point. There is no way either of my girls is going to let them stick the thing all the way up their nostril. I also forgot to mention that my visit was completely free... Except the $12 for the parking meter and the $86 fine for exceeding the maximum meter time. But rest is good and I'm wearing a mask at home and sleeping in the downstairs guest bedroom.

Glad iNCY is alright, relatively speaking. Hoping for a speedy recovery, and nothing but good health for your fam man. Good thing indeed that you're such a stud at 42. Saved by strong lungs and deep chest hair roots.

Except there's no soap anywhere.
Fuck it, I'm contaminating EVERYTHING!

You have to wash with soap for 30 seconds which I have been told is as long as it takes to sing happy birthday in your head... Except I sing it out loud... To myself... In a slutty Marilyn Monroe kind of way.... Don't judge me.

Or just gonna go the shower shit route? Nah, figured I'd just use paper towels and fuck up the septic system. Sure it feels like sand paper, but what can you do?
Also I'm down to 2 tubes of sanitizing wipes. Had them before the panic and I gave one to the window section at work with the warning "remember these are worth their weight in gold and it's the last one" and of course today I get asked if I have hand sanitizer. Dude I'm not an Amazon Backroom. I gave you what I could. Fuck off and pay $60 for an oz of it on ebay.

I hope you and your family are good iNCY and a speedy recovery for you. And people asking for sanitizer is appalling. That shit IS gold right now. I get angry when a person walks up to me and asks me for a cigarette when I’m smoking one like they aren’t $14 a pack. Fuck out of here. I ALWAYS say NO.

Ultimately it is not the virus itself I'm scared of, it is all the shut downs that are happening. I literately started a new job this week. I have no paid leave at all and I'm at the very bottom of seniority. I went from working at a large library to working at a large Park/Zoo. If they decide to shut down the Park/Zoo and reduce to only skeleton staff then that will really suck. At least at my old job I had a ton of sick pay and vacation days banked. Now my old job will be paying that out to me but it won't be for 2 more weeks and has to be sent via mail and if they decide to stop mail delivery or the office of my old job decides to shut down for a while then I may never get that cheque. Which would really hurt. I do have a little back up money but it isn't a lot

I do wonder how that would fuck everything up though. Things are chaotic on Mondays due to no Sunday. On weeks we have a Monday holiday Tuesday is a damn nightmare. Of course I don't really touch the mail so it wouldn't affect me.

My workplace put out a memo two days ago, said risk is very low...only 147 cases in Australia and blamed media hysteria. There’s now 200+ cases and it also said that if you’re sick go to doctor immediately..which is the exact opposite of advice atm.
I have 100+ hours of sick leave and I can’t use it as I’m not sick.
Most of our patrons are 50+..many with diabetes/high blood pressure or heart problems. RIP them.

Since it's just a bar I assume you gotta call the manager to call off? Or do you need actual documentation from a dr before you're granted leave. I love the automated phone system (they even have an online version) but obviously that gets abused. Also your job sounds like one that has a 3 strike rule for firing for calling off.

An update to my previous post. My city has just announced they are shutting down all libraries(My old job) and City run faculties effective Monday. I'm really starting to get worried now. My new job stated yesterday it is business as usual but with this news I wouldn't be shocked if they decide to follow suit.

With the school divisions being shut down for 3 weeks, waiting for daycares to follow. I'm in an "essential service" so I'll be expected to be at work with a 2 year old with nowhere to go and nobody to look after him. Wife and I trying to figure out someway to flex our schedules.
We're good to self-quarantine for 2 weeks. Just waiting for our jobs to allow us to!

You can't close down schools and daycares, but expect parents to be working. What about those who don't have other options?
Some just absolute baffling decisions being made. For instance we have a 'super base' here for military personnel and for the next 2 weeks they are being told to stay home unless called upon. I saw my friends last night. He's a current serving member of our Canadian Armed Forced and home now for 2 weeks, but his wife is still working and his kids are still going to school. :eyepop:
I get they are trying to 'flatten the curve' or whatever, but how effective is it if you aren't thinking things through. I also understand this is fairly unprecedented and most everyone is swinging by the seat of their pants, but some of this makes about as much sense as a cat in pajamas.

I call the manager, they tell me to get a doctors certificate. Can’t get doctors certificate = no pay. My workplace is the biggest club in the area, it’s the size of a small mall as opposed to Moe’s Tavern so heavy amount of patronage on busy nights 😬😷. Just went to the shops as soon as they opened, horde of people already waiting there. I got one of the last packets of TP.

It’s corporations, man. I know it’s cliche but it’s what it is. The daycares have to close to protect kids but the companies that employ everyone else couldn’t care less right now. My company sent an email Friday that in way too many words basically said “we expect you to work as long as we’re open and if you need to stay home that’s why you have sick time and vacation days. Good luck.” I’m thankful my wife doesn’t have to work or we would be fucked. Our kids are likely home for a month. As of yesterday there were no plans to shut down after spring break, but there has been two confirmed cases in the B.C. interior since yesterday, which means there’s going to be more. I give it a week before there’s an email sent out saying classes won’t resume until sometime in April.
