I don't want to come to work anymore. Not because I don't want to get sick, but all anyone is talking about is this and while I don't disagree that it should be taken seriously, some people are going to the extreme and it's driving me insane. Someone coughs or sneezes and gets hosed down with Lysol which makes you further cough and sneeze. My co-workers keep telling me to cancel my trip next week, that I'm selfish to be going so I said fine I'll self quarantine when I get back like you suggested and then they say 'well let's not be hasty'. The health authorities keep mentioning about self isolating, but Ness is right, if we dared stayed home (even if we were still working - which I have the luxury to do except I have a boss who doesn't think it's productive) the higher ups would not agree. And that's the other side of the coin isn't it: 'here's what we suggest you do' vs 'here's the reality of your situation'. I have long been told 'if you are sick stay home', but the powers that be don't do anything to support that. What about people all over the world who can't afford to be off work? What about the front line workers like Kid, or like c mentioned the USA where some people might need to go to a Doctor but won't because of the cost? Yeah I appreciate that AND the bosses in the medical field don’t give two shits about us anyways. Today we were told that we have a ‘duty to act’ and we picked this profession for these type of situations. Like I’m going to keep my mouth shut to that rally cry. I immediately reminded them of 9/11 workers and how they got treated afterwards and then went on a rant on how I have a $6,000 deductible on my work health insurance that I pay $600 a month for and how we don’t even have fucking benefits. A $20,000 life insurance plan that will do shit to help my family in the long run. All this to complete silence. Like I said, I did not sign up for the military. If you want me to act like I’m military and risk my life then you better give me the right money and benefits that my family can live comfortably if something does God forbid happen to me. I am convinced I am going to get this virus.

This is our Y2K. Nothing happened then, but imagine if it did.
I have about 9 weeks worth of leave between sick and annual. If things get bad or if I notice anyone coughing or sneezing at work (nothing so far) I won't hesitate to start using it. I'm pretty isolated in general, so this won't be too much of a stretch to need to do it. Only thing is it's only getting worse as everyone gets more and more paranoid. I've been receiving e-mails from every company I ever had an account/signed up for (ranging from my bank, gas stations rewards points all the way to trusty IHOP) letting me know #thisisserious.
I don't have health insurance so I don't really see the doctor, but yeah unless I have the virus that ain't changing. Don't have a dental appointment until July and who knows where we'll be in this situation then.

I have heaps of sick leave to use, but I won’t be able to use it unless I go the doctors and get a certificate..which they won’t give me if I’m not sick. I want to use it so I don’t get sick..catch-22! Local cinema: My work: Who haven’t alerted us of any safety measures at all.

My local school system is seriously considering closing schools and letting the normal kids learn through distance learning while ignoring all IEPs for disabled students...
Surely this will end well if they do it. Basically the people of the town want their normal kids educated and are pushing hard to say special needs students do not need an education. Gonna be interesting if they do it as one parent says she retained an attorney and drafted papers to file a suit as soon as the schools are closed. The nature of the fight is the school system has the last day in May and people do not want their kids going an extra few weeks into June.

Push for a chest x-ray Incy. Both this and the regular flu leads to pneumonia and chest pain is a tell-tale sign of pneumonia. Both times I had pneumonia my chest hurt so bad.

The town wants the days to count as regular school days and not have to make them up by just not teaching the kids special education kids. This is super illegal.

c illegal or not illegal, I feel like the safety should come first. Out here where I live, a special needs kid got the Coronavirus (along with his father) and he attends two schools. Both schools are now shut down. We don’t know yet what other student or teacher got the virus now from this kid. Should we have worried about legality or have played it safe? Also iNCY I really hope you don’t got it and I hope you get well soon. Good luck with everything. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.

Really I'm only thinking about the test because of people in the community with compromised immune systems.

Really I'm only thinking about the test because of people in the community with compromised immune systems. If your chest pain is pneumonia it is something you got to stop it early or the lung just fill with pus that likes to stick around. Was laid up for 3 weeks the first time I had and six weeks in grad school when I waited a few weeks to see a doctor. Def something you do not want to let sit and that is the real concern of this outbreak is it does lead to nasty pneumonia that if you try to push through can lead to organ failure as the infection grows.

Had pneumonia in basic training. Just thought I was sick and was coughing up a lung. Intense pain where I thought I broke a rib since it was a sharp stabbing feeling in my side.
It sucked.

Schools across Canada are closing down. Our spring break is about to start so it isn’t a huge loss, but universities have midterms and I feel for the students that are getting fucked around right now.
There’s talk of schools not opening right away after spring break if the virus continues to spread, which by all accounts sounds like will happen. My kids could be off for the next month.
I’m expected to keep working but I am lucky that our area hasn’t been affected too much. It’s coming though. I’m 100% expecting a late outbreak where I live. There are a lot of rich assholes in my city and no one I’ve talked to has canceled any of their spring break travel plans. So in 10-14 days when they all come back from COVID Island we’re going to have a problem. I can feel it.
Anyway...Trudeau spoke this morning and his speech was reassuring. They’re working on stimulus packages to help businesses and people that need to stay home. Testing is expanding quite a bit and they’re advising people to stay home unless they must go to a hospital to keep numbers down and avoid spread/wait times. They’re also restricting shipping until July 1st and international flights are only allowed to land at certain airports.
I’m glad I live where this is being taken seriously. The virus fucked with the best part of the NHL season and Canada is having none of it.

My work has initiated a strange rotating policy where 50% of the workforce works from home one week while the other half works in the office, and then swap. Not sure if that is so effective at mitigating the coronavirus. But I get a week at home, so it's not so bad.

5,400 deaths now.
It’s quite surreal, I don’t think I’ve ever lived through any thing similar to mass gatherings of 500+ being cancelled, sporting events ran without a crowd, rations on food.. what is this, WW2 London?

Not to take anything away from you iNCY, I’m never sick. I visited a doctor last year to get my shots before my son was born and explained how I get the flu once a year like everyone else, and was quickly debunked, as my symptoms were more likely the common cold. I don’t get sick. For the last week, I’ve felt unusually unwell. Sore throat, sneezing and coughing occasionally, headaches, aches and pains, fatigue like I’ve never felt before. I don’t want to buy into it, but it’s interesting I feel like this during an outbreak of Covid-19.

Gonna be real interesting to see how things play out on Monday with schools officially closed. I don't have any, but fuck if it gives me an excuse to stay home. Sorry gotta make sure little Ness doesn't put a fork in an outlet socket.
I feel bad for mail carriers and those working the window. They handle money and likely aren't doing the 6' rule. I'm just hiding in my closet.
