Matt Murray made the save of the season tonight. Matt Murray didn't make any saves last night. Jets scored five goals in the first period! Definitely one of the most fun games I've ever been at. Got to see the defending back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions. Got to see them get destroyed by the worst bottom 6 forwards in the NHL. Plus a Blake Wheeler hat trick in the first period. Plus free scarves on all of our seats! FUN TIMES!

I was watching Ducks/Hurricanes the other day. It was Ryan Miller's first game as Duck and holy shit did he turn back the clock. What a performance.

Jets played their best overall game in a 5-2 win over the dreaded Stars. I watched Big Buff draw two penalties (which is shocking, I know), and then try to ignore Jamie Benn for a good 30 seconds until he finally got pissed and pounded him.
Hellebuyck has been outstanding in the past 6 games or so. Steve Mason will be a very expensive backup goalie for two years.

RT, Ed, Zappy, Raven, toxicboy1980, We done with hockey talk here? I don't like talking to myself. Jets continue to win, and continue to look horrible doing it. I was at the game last night, and the Coyotes outplayed us, again. But Jets were opportunistic with turnovers and made them pay.

I've been insanely busy the past few weeks. I've just been ignoring PW in general, aside from trying to continue to fulfill my obligations in Fan Fic.
It's nice to see the Leafs can still win without Auston Matthews. I hope whatever is bothering him isn't serious and he comes back soon, though. Everyone seems to get hurt eventually in this league and I'm glad the team isn't stupid about it and is giving him the time he needs to remain as healthy as he can.
He's back at practice today, which means he might play tomorrow night, so that's good. I won't feel better until he's back in the game though. NHL teams always seem to be weird like that, especially one that doesn't give away any secrets like the Leafs. "He's fine, just resting, all is well, see you Wednesday," can very easily turn into "He tweaked something in practice and now might need surgery."

What do you guys think is the key to the Rangers winning streak?

I did not want to jinx the Rangers winning streak. What do you guys think is the key to the Rangers winning streak? The Rangers power play was clicking. They made some plays. Shattenkirk is such an offensive weapon. They also limited their opponents chances. Tonight against the Hawks they allowed them to have good positioning on top of Lundqvist. Tough sport for him.

Man Claude Julien ripped the Habs last night of the loss last night. They forgot to respect the gameplan.

I'm going to the Rangers/Senators game tonight for my birthday. Yes this is no coincidence that I'm going to this game. Such a treat to watch Karlsson skate circles on the ice.

That sounds like so much fun. Tells us about your experience if you feel like it of course. I'd love to back to MSG to see a Rangers game.

It was a great game. Evenly matched, which is what I was expecting. Awesome penalty kill for the Rangers including the major.
I gotta say I was impressed with Ricks Dick. He had a lot of hustle. He seems a lot more hungry than before. He also has a pair of dirty hands when he wants to use them. With his size he can steamroll through everyone and get a quality scoring chance. Whether this coincides with a contract year or not he is not coming back next year though.
I'm not a fan of the Rangers using their goal horn for almost everything that is not a goal. When they come in the ice or win the game. Goal horns are for goals only. It has been like that since I can remember.
A cool feature they do is light up the outside of MSG when the Rangers score.
I would post pictures, but I can't from my phone.

I am surprised by the resurgent Rangers. Didn't think they had it in them.
As for the Habs .. dayam man, they are a tire fire right now. Sergachev who they traded for Drouin, has more points himself than any other Hab!!
And the Buffalo Sabres, wow, I think they are the worst team in the league. Jack Eichel, getting paid 10+ million dollars ... hasn't done shit. The team isn't even close to decent, let alone good or great.

Unfortunately I can't post pictures. The files are too big. I have a nice one with both logos on the ice as well as the Canadian flag on the ice during their national anthem.

Thought: what are the chances Todd McLellan gets fired before the end of 2017?
Only the Sabres and Coyotes have fewer points than the Oilers right now. McDavid is in a slump and there's no denying that he's the whole team anymore. Something has to change and change quick, or this team isn't making the playoffs in a year where they were considered a Cup contender before it started.
...
I also want to talk about the disallowed goal in the Leafs/Coyotes game the other night but I don't want you all calling me a salty Leafs fan. Someone watch that replay and tell me how there's conclusive evidence of goaltender interference to give the refs a reason to change the call on the ice of a good goal. Someone tell me what Zack Hyman is supposed to do in that situation to avoid contact with the goalie as he's being sandwiched between two Coyotes while trying to stop. Someone explain this to me.
Game went from being 2-2 late in the 3rd to the Leafs losing 4-1 on two empty netters. I'm fucking pissed.

Just by watching the highlights the Oilers defense is piss poor. Yeah let's just give Tarasenko a clear shot without any pressure in the slot. Larssons giveaway in front of the net that led to a goal is beer hockey shit.
Changing the coach is an easier fix, but that defense has major holes.

This Pens team has too many underperforming players and too many offensively incompetent players. You can survive with underperforming players if you have good depth. You can survive with bad depth if your star players are playing well. You won't win a thing if you have neither.

Maybe they aren't ready to step into the spotlight just yet. It's weird because they have the same care. I think to fire Todd McLellan would be a mistake and reek of impatience like regimes of the past when Edmonton treated their coaches like turnstiles

The problem is the Oiler forwards can't keep up with McDavid's pace. They lack the speed to get the attack going. Eberle for Strome was a bad deal. Strome is slow and they are missing Eberle who was a more dynamic player. Yes he struggled against bigger opponents which is why they probably preferred Strome, but that has been a disaster so far. McDavid is on a line with a bunch slow to average skaters in Lucic, Maroon and Cagguila. They need more speed up front.

Ovechkin doing Ovechkin things in Toronto. Some people may say he is one dimensional player, but he is going to break the 600 goal barrier soon and in modern NHL that is unreal amount of goals. Hats off for you Alex.
