In another thought, how crazy is it that Vegas is so scared of the Jets getting Brassard, they blocked the trade, and agreed to pay $4 million dollars of his salary over the next two years, and a 4th round pick just so they would send him out East. Also Nashville blocked the Jets too, by trading for Letestu, and then flipping him immediately to Columbus for a draft pick. So they essentially lost depth by trading away Aberg because they didn't want the Jets getting a 4th line centre. What's up with that? Why is everyone afraid of Winnipeg? RT, Sammy,

So Zappy, you must be happy with the return so far on Nash and Grabner. Are you hoping that Zucc and McDonagh are traded tomorrow? Also, would you be ok with Nash and Grabner coming back to NYR in July? If so, what kind of contract are you ok with? Term and AAV? Not necessarily hoping they will be traded by tomorrow as there is the summer and the draft for them to be moved. But, yes they need to be traded. If you trade one you trade all. Its time to start over. I'm hoping Grabner comes back, but I'm not interested in Rick The Dick. The guy can be unstoppable and a delight to watch, but that's only if he decides if he wants to play hard. I could see Grabner getting a multi year deal around $4.5 million on the open market. If he wants to take some type of discount that's fine. He brings a lot to the lineup and every team would sure like to have his speed. But let's not forget his inflated goal total from empty net goals. I would only take Rick The Dick for a year with a low cap hit. Two years and anything under $4.5 million for Grabner would be ideal.

I want to believe that Vegas is all-in on winning the Cup in their first year, so they blocked the Brassard trade because they feel that Winnipeg is a big threat in the playoffs, but I don't think that's the whole story. Something else is going on there, but I don't know what.
All I know is Tampa got McDonagh today so they're winning the Cup. See you all next year.

If the Leafs and Jets win their first round matchups, the reward is Tampa and Nashville. How wonderful.
Jets trading for Stastny is huge. That's some serious centre depth.

If things stay how they are, the Leafs will face Boston in the 1st round, and I'm already feeling anxiety over it. They need their revenge and to move on to round 2. If they go to round 2 and face Tampa and get slaughtered, I won't even care because everyone expects that to happen no matter who Tampa faces this year (the exception maybe being Pittsburgh). Just...beat Boston. #ItWasA4to1Lead

I have to say I'm quite pleased with the Rangers trade deadline moves they have embraced the rebuild.
A very nice package in return for McDonagh. Namestnikov will grow nicely with Zibanejad as they will provide the one two punch for the Rangers and maybe this will get Kreider going. They also got a couple of prospects who were also drafted low and possibly two first round picks. Miller although young is expendable and fills Namestnikov's roster spot.
I just don't think McDonagh is worth one of Tampa's grade A prospects. McDonagh is a top 2 defenseman no doubt, but he is not Karlsson.
The Rangers end up with a ton of draft picks and a ton of young defensive prospects well done. It's time for Skjei to shine as the number one defenseman on this team.
It's not fun to not make the playoffs, but it sure is fun to watch young players be in roles they are not used to. Lets see how they do with about a month left.

Namestnikov, Zuccarello Sauce, and Vesey had instant chemistry last night. Just skating laps in the offensive zone, but it could also be because the Canucks are dog shit. Either way, Namestnikov had a nice breakaway goal and added an assist. Just one game, but I think he will be better than ever by being that go to guy instead of being overshadowed.
Skjei and Pionk are just eating minutes. It's a tough assignment, but they will continue to learn and grow. Gilmour had a sweet overtime winner on an impossible angle after a nice pass from Spooner. Lets keep this up and play spoiler.

I know the Leafs aren't going to take 1st in the Atlantic this year, but I'm hoping to hell they can somehow pull ahead of Boston and get that precious home ice advantage. They're a point back and Boston has games in hand, so it'll be tough, but that's pretty much the only thing I'm thinking about until the playoffs.
Boston is on a roll and looking good, and beating them in a 7 game series at home is going to be really hard.

The Golden Knights continue to stay strong. Marc- Andre Fleury keep them in the game especially in the 1st period.

The Rangers swept a three game Western Conference road trip. Regardless of winning or losing this team is a hell of a lot more enjoyable to watch. They literally have AHL players who are thrust into the spotlight, and boy they are stating their case to stay. Pionk does not back down from anyone and Staal just plays solid defense. Strong on the puck excellent on one on battles.
Lundqvist pulled off some Mike Richter 50 save performances while Georgiev continues to excel in net. I see a lot of the same technique of young Lundqvist in Georgiev, and that obviously has to do with the Rangers goaltending coach. In the NHL you have to be able to move side to side post to post up and down at a ridiculous pace to be successful. Just take a look at your beer league goalies. The ones who have stone skates are burned all the time. Those with more experience and able to make those basic moves that may not look pretty, but they definitely make more saves.
I just love the compete level from this team especially after everyone left. And you know these young players need to prove themselves. This may be the only chance for some of these guys to make their case to stay or at least continue at the NHL level with another team.
I will take a win and I will take a loss just keep up that compete level. And resign AV please.

So Zappy, what's your assessment on the Winnipeg Jets, and the 3-0 victory over your beloved NYRangers last night? It was a very fun HATRICK LAINE show.

Hey NHL is Malkin Top 100 player now? Penguins must be glad, that they snubbed him, because dude is on a mission. He always was. It was bullshit he never made the list in the first place. This isn't NHL related, it's KHL, but it's a must read anyway: It's about how SKA have a lock on winning the championship this year because it's Putin's team and he's up for re-election. It's a great summary of the corruption and atmosphere around the KHL playoffs right now. It's very interesting. Read it. EDIT: if you click on the picture it will take you to the twitter thread.

Ovechkin getting to 600 goals in modern NHL is amazing feat. Has anyone even had 500 who started at the same time as Ovi?

I want Ovechkin to when a cup. Yeah, he's not the most complete player but he's very fun to watch.

He's the new Ray Bourque. 100% deserves to win one, but it's going to be tight if he gets it in before retirement. I'd put Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau in that same group as well. If Laine keeps playing the way he's playing the Jets are going to the Cup finals. He's unreal right now.

Jets better sign him this summer before he scores 60 goals next year and destroys our cap! But man, so exciting to watch. Whenever the puck is on his stick you think...he's gonna score. He's that good. Also, I officially have tickets to the Jets 2nd home playoff game

Auston Matthews and Frederik Andersen return tonight against Tampa.
Be still my beating heart.
EDIT: Never mind, apparently that changed last night. Matthews not back, Andersen a game time decision.
Honestly that's ok with me. The Leafs are winning without them and there's absolutely no reason to bring them back before they're 100%. I can relax now.

Laine injured and helped off tonight. Took a puck to a knee, so hopefully it's just a painful bone bruise, and he comes back before the playoffs.

Looks like Lundqvist is more than likely done for the season after a nasty collision the last game. Georgiev is more than capable of taking the load. Either way it's a good idea to give Lundqvist a lot of rest after hundreds of regular season and playoff games the last couple of years.
This is old, but I loved that penalty shot call against Georgiev. Excellent pressure and experience so early in his career. And he did a great job stayed with Malkin the entire time.
Georgiev doesn't try to do too much and never gets rattled in net.
Pionk was also brilliant in the 3 on 3 overtime. Glad to see the Rangers fans admire and appreciate his talent.
Rangers are obviously going through this stretch, but they have been able to keep up with playoff teams. Dominated Pittsburgh in the third period and won in overtime. Overtime loss against the Blues. And kept it very close against the Blue Jackets.
This is with Pionk and Staal as the top 2 defensemen right now.

Mmm, Jets officially clinched a playoff spot with a shootout win over Nashville last night. I enjoy all of the media talking heads asking for a playoff series between these two teams. The games that I have seen this year have been outstanding.
Bring on the Wild/Avalanche/Blues!!

If Seattle gets an NHL team, which Pacific team moves to the central division? Dallas makes the most sense to me.

Arizona will move. Dallas is already in the Central division.
Vancouver, San Jose, LA and Anaheim are all on the coast, Edmonton and Calgary have to be in the same division because rivalries, and the Division Champion Las Vegas Golden Knights aren't moving after one year, so that leaves the Coyotes.
