Just realized my list was all MLB & NFL teams. So, yeah, I forgot about the Knicks. Haven't really followed the NBA much since the late 90s.
However, there is one NBA franchise I would argue is even worse than the Knicks. I was kicking myself over forgetting this team. But forgetting about this extremely forgettable franchise is also perfect. Lemme look up a list of Knicks seasons real quick....
OK. They belong. Only 3 playoff appearances since the 04-05 season, and just 4 since 01-02. Plus all the issues you guys mentioned. Like the heartbreaking 90s and no championship since 1973. All this while once being one of the NBA's marquee franchises.
The Knicks were my favorite team during the Ewing/Starks years. Something like 94-98, which was also the peak of my NBA fandom. Being a fan of even those good Knick teams was heartbreaking, as they found new ways of blowing it in the playoffs. They had to contend with Jordan's Bulls. And don't even get me started on stupid Reggie Miller and those damn Pacers.

I had the Knicks highest of NBA teams, followed by the TWolves who have a far worse history as opposed to the Vikings and I think I put the Sacramento Kings deep down there at like no.10.

I think I put the Sacramento Kings deep down there at like no.10. The Kings were the team I was referring to in my post. I don't think there has been a more nothing happening franchise in the MLB, NFL, or NBA during my 34 years as a sports fan. They had those good Webber Era teams which ended in heartbreak and.....nothing. Plus I just always think of them as the most obscure team in the Big 3 sports leagues. Like the San Diego Padres, but even more so. Here's hoping the Kings claim the #3 spot. But they probably won't. Because we all forgot about them

I had the Kings high on my list so it's possible. Their disgruntled fanbase were even featured on RHOBH, that's how tormented they are.

Because we all forgot about them They were the Suns of the early 2000's maybe even better. Awesome regular season, had the Peja's, Bibby's, Webber's, Vlad Divac's, Doug Christie's, J-Will's, but they were victims of the Kobe and Shaq duo Laker dynasty. Their very best just was never good enough in the playoffs, got ousted by KG and the Twolves one year too. What a fun offense. They put out a product that rivalred the Nash's, Marion's and Amare's IMO. They got absolutely dicked by the NBA corruption of officials 1000% they had the Lakers dead to rights at given points but the NBA refs did not allow the Lakers to fall. To not have a single finals appearance with that roster is a crying shame. And then they had the whole Maloofs trying to move out of Sacramento that felt like a pure tug of war before new ownership declared the Kings are staying. Sadly though, they may have found someone who isn't far off from James Dolan as far as NBA ownership incompetance goes in Vivek.

Think it might be time for an avatar change if the Kings do show up at #3. So many options. Do I go with Walt Williams? Lionel Simmons? Antoine Carr? Wayman Tisdale? Decisions, decisions.
1 & 2 have to be the Browns & Lions, right? RIGHT?

Blindy is gonna hate me for forgetting the Jets :$ I'll have a good writeup for them though! And I do think they'll beat out the forgotten Kings for the #3 spot. I actually did root for the Kings from afar during their feud with the Lakers. The Kings had been lovable losers for so long while the Lakers were basketball royalty. Made it easy to root for Sacramento (Suckramento?).

On my NFL centric list I forgot the Knicks too. I was a fan of the Ewing/Starks era but was not a fan of the Stephon MEbury days. As has been mentioned management has bungled the franchise ever since, they more than belong.
Other than the somewhat glory years of the late 90's/early 2000's the Kings have really been a nothing happening franchise. For me it's like Americans not knowing the anguish Leaf fans have gone through, the Kings disgruntled fan base is mostly an unknown to me. I do remember those raucous crowds during the playoff runs against the Lakers though, they were a fun team to watch and my cousin's favorite at that time, huge C. Webb fan.

The Lions are definitely a tortured fanbase , they have been an embarrassing franchise for pretty much my entire life. Picking in the Top 5 and blowing picks , losing in their best chance in forever to the Cowboys in shitty fashion , 0 - 16 , their two best players in franchise history retiring YEARS too early amongst a myriad of other embarassmants.
Then again I have a weird bias against them because years ago when I was part of a football message board the Lions fans were the most obnoxious and overconfident fans ever. Even in the midst of Joey Harrington , Roy Williams and Charlies Rogers fiasco's ... you would think they were the Patriots of the last two decades. So fuck them.

I would not have been mad if Detroit finished #1. Everything about their franchise is just disappointing. From Barry Sanders retiring early on them to being winless to being bad to getting screwed by refs (you know what I’m talking about UT) this is a franchise with no gas left in their Ford.

The Lions were my #2 and I assumed they would be PW's #2 as well. The Browns have to be one of the remaining teams. I'm curious to see who the other is.
Nobody under the standard American retirement age of 65 has seen the Lions win a championship. They have been horrible for most of my 34 years as a football fan. Turns out they were somehow even worse in the decades preceding that- making the playoffs only one time between 1958-1981. The only good stretch they've had since the 50s came during the Barry Sanders years when they made the playoffs 6 out of 9 seasons. They have made the playoffs only 3 times this century. Their last playoff victory came way back in 1992.
Then you get into the Matt Millen draft botch era. Being the first winless team in the history of 16 game seasons. Their greatest player, Barry Sanders, retiring early. And I'm starting to think I should have had them at #1. The Lions are the very definition of ineptitude.

Shootist ,The Lions were my #2, they easily check off every box for the list. No championship since the 1950's, two of their biggest modern day stars Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson retired early, they have a winless season under their belt and on top of that they have some absolutely crushing playoff losses. The cherry on top is that the referees absolutely LOATHE this franchise, constantly screwing them over with shitty calls. and for good measure

Dunno why I was mentioned but I had the Lions at 3, I agree with everyone here. Having the big three channels coming from Detroit growing up (NBC,ABC,CBS) made me a first hand witness to their pain.

Knicks just keep finding ways....man. www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29253388/knicks-explain-lack-public-comment-email-msg-employeesI think the Knicks were also the only team who voted to have the regular season fully played at MSG when the pandemic was fresh back in March And the Lions were I think No.5 for me. Pretty much all the reasons mentioned. In addition, they became the punching bag on Thanksgiving once a year for everyone to have to suffer and watch through.

I also forgot to mention that not only did Barry Sanders retire early but so did Megatron. A team can’t catch a break with once in a lifetime players.

Jets deserve to be on the list no doubt , but in no fucking way do they deserve to be ahead of the Lions who haven't won a championship as recent , have a worst record , haven't had near the playoff success and have had two once in a generation players retire.
The Jets have their moments , especially recently but not worst than the overall picture that Detroit has painted.

What generational talent did the Jets ever have? Their most infamous player is a player who got degenerative knees in his 30's in Joe Namath. Curtis Martin who they took from the Pats? Darrelle Revis who worked for the highest dollar and helped the opposition win a SB? Name a team that has taken worst drafts than the Jets? Vernon Gholston.....Ken O Brien over Dan Marino.....taking a FB in round 1.....taking a mediocre kicker in round 2. Quinton Coples, Dee Milliner, Calvin Pryor, list goes on and on with failed 1st rounders that aren't even in the NFL anymore. Their best player has one foot out the door in Jamal Adams.
Have not found a keeper at QB for decades unlike the Lions(Though I like Darnold!), have not hosted a playoff game in almost two decades due to the Pats run and have not been in the playoffs more recently than Detroit has.
Jets deserve to be high on this list, so what they made 3 AFC Title games since 1998, they did not win them, they continued to find ways to not reach a SB feat since 1969. On top of that in one decade alone THE PATRIOTS AND GIANTS, two rivals of the Jets played each other TWICE in the super bowl. TWICE. That'd be like the Packers vs the Vikings in the SB if that were to ever be a thing. The Pats dynasty has ruined a lot of good teams, there was a 10-6 Jets team that didn't make the playoffs in 2015 because the nfl refused to get the best 12 teams in the dance.
I've seen 1-15 in 1996 under Rich Kotite wear I wore a Jets jacket and got laughed at by kids and parents as a 6 year old boy. The draft we were suppose to get Peyton Manning until he fucking ducked us and we had to take Keyshawn Johnson before seeing the Colts get Manning the following year. I've seen Denver mount a 2nd half comeback over the Jets to stop them from the SB in 1998. I've seen the 2002 NY Jets lay an egg vs the Raiders after a 41-0 drubbing of the Colts. I've seen Doug Brien miss kick after kick after kick vs the Steelers in the divisional round. I've seen countless 4-12 mediocre seasons, different head coaches, different GMs, different QBs. We took Brianna The Wanker Favre, Mike Vick way out of their prime and had them start games over this time. I SAW OUR QB WE DRAFTED IN CHAD PENNINGTON START THE FINAL GAME OF THE 2008 YEAR AND WIN IN OUR STADIUM AS A DOLPHIN TO END OUR YEAR AND SEE MIAMI WIN THE DIVISION. OUR QUARTERBACK THAT I WANTED TO STAY. The 2009-2010 runs were GREAT but they all ended in tough losses before never making the playoffs again. I've seen countless draft pick blunders, inept management fail at free agency, countless coaching blunders in game that I have ranted on in the past.
WE DIDNT EVEN HAVE A FUCKING HOME STADIUM OF OUR OWN, WE GOT BOOTED OUT OF SHEA STADIUM AND HAD TO PLAY FOR YEARS AT GIANTS STADIUM. GIANTS STADIUM. JETS HOME GAMES AT GIANTS STADIUM! No identity, tried to build something in Manhattan until James Dolan said no and the taxpayers decided on not to before working with the Giants to have the NEW MEADOWLANDS. We played as the 2nd class citizen for YEARS in that stadium in New Jersey and this team and fanbase was treated as second class citizens of it's sport in it's own sport.
Cleveland lost their team to the rival Ravens who won SBs so maybe they can feel that pain but Detroit has been all about the Lions and the state of Michigan has one team to side with. Cleveland at least has the attention all on them in their state, the Jets are still second class citizens in New York to the Giants.
I've had to watch a HC who weaseled his way out of this organization cheat his way into SBs and luck into a generational QB up in New England and reign supreme in the division since I was in middle school. I've seen the other team in NY make the SUPER BOWL THREE TIMES SINCE 2000 AND WIN TWO OF THEM and parade and have Michael Strahan take fucking shots at Gang Green just because. IVE SEEN INEPT OWNERSHIP WITH WOODY JOHNSON TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME AGAIN AND HE WILL BE BACK ONCE/IF TRUMP IS OUT OF OFFICE. TERRY BRADWAY/MIKE TANNEBAUM/JOHN IDZIK/MIKEMCCAGNAN ALL FAILURES AS GENERAL MANAGERS. AL GROH/HERM "CONSERVATIVE FOOTBALL" EDWARDS/ERIC MANGINI/Rex Ryan(Who was fantastic on one side of the ball BUT HE TRUSTED FUCKING BRIAN SCHOTTENHEIMER WHO RUINED OUR YEARS)/Todd "OUTCOACH ME IN THE 2ND HALF" Bowles/and Gase looks to be a lost cause too with his player alienating.

That was an epic post by Blindy. I felt his pain. The Jets failed to make my list. I mean, they easily could have. But they didn't. Blindy covered all the lowlights I was going to mention plus a bunch I didn't even know about. I'll just add the very first year I followed football- 1986- the Jets started out 10-1 and were hyped as a Super Bowl contender. They lost their 5 remaining games regular season games. Then they lost a double overtime game to the Browns in the playoffs. That collapse was a harbinger of things to come as it pretty much foreshadowed the next 33 years of misery.

One of the biggest losses from the old boards are Blindy's rants. They really should have been compiled into a book. He's been a bit more mellow over here because of the Darnold effect but it's good to see the caps, bold and underline make a comeback here.

My biggest regret was not saving any of that, page went like 45+ pages long! I was very angsty, unemployed and young back then, don't have the same fire that I did before. Work takes over my time at this point. I can still unleash it every now and then however, just takes the right amount of fuckery to get it out of me.

Since I'm pretty sure what #1 is going to be
1.Cleveland Browns 2.Detroit Lions 3.NY Knicks 4.Cincinatti Bengals 5.Minnesota Timberwolves 6.Pittsburgh Pirates 7.NY Jets 8.Jacksonville Jaguars 9.Charlotte Hornets 10.Sacramento Kings
I'll save my commentary on the Browns for when UT puts them up but they were hands down the ONLY choice for #1.
I thought about including the Chicago Bears, but the truth is Bears fans are some of the most optimistically delusional fans in sports. Listening to your average Bears fan you would think it's still 1985. They really think that the Bears are still relevant and EVERY year is their year.

1) NY Jets 2) NY Knicks 3) US Men's National Soccer Team 4) 5) Detroit Lions 6) Minnesota Timberwolves 7) Toronto Maple Leafs 8) Cleveland Indians 9) Arizona Cardinals 10) Sacramento Kings
Shocked the TWolves did not make this list, far worse than the Vikings. The US Men's National team I knew I would be alone on but they made the QUARTERFINALS ONCE ever in the world cup. That's it, top 8. Since then, it's been misery including the disaster of not qualifying out of the CONCACAF for the last world cup. Team does not look any better, at least the other teams MAYBE have some future or hope, the US Men's Soccer team? Nope.

How are the Jets only 1 up on the Jags? Since existing, the Jags have made 2 AFC Title games and almost as many playoff appearances including the most recent AFC Title game appearance. Is it because of the fear of relocating? They have a good owner in Khan. I think people forget just how bad the Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals were, especially in the NFC East where they were viewed as the doormats and 2 easy wins for the Eagles, Redskins, Cowboys and Giants. They have a recent SB appearance that they lost under and a few playoff berths under Arians but really outside of that, they have been a miserable squad.
