Just cancel everyone who appears on this show. Can't risk letting anyone slip out when they may have done a bad thing at some point in their pasts.

James Mitchell was the star of the episode and he was in fine form re-telling all the stories. I've always had a lot of time for him and really enjoyed the shoot interview he had with Raven who for mine was sorely missed on the episode.
I feel like the episode omitted some interesting details which is the issue with a 40 minute format.
The episode gives the impression that Pro Wrestling was all Kanyon had when he actually had a background in Physiotherapy and was earning six figures before giving it away to become a Pro Wrestler. The story should be that here was this bright guy who was making a great living who gave it away to follow his dreams.
I don't think they spent enough time in WCW and the way it was told was awkward. They were right off to start off with when it came to the humble beginnings as one half of Men At Work. However the whole Blood Runs Cold was told back to front. It was more they came up with the idea of Glacier before the birth of the nWo which changed the entire industry. However since Bischoff was a martial arts enthusiast he doubled down and tried to create an entire division with Kanyon coming in as the ring general.
The whole thing should have been a train wreck but Kanyon was able to salvage it and actually put together a PPV quality match at Bash at the Beach 1997. The angle ran it's course but Mortis had established himself as a credible mid-card talent.
This was where Raven was sorely missed because that's when he took Kanyon under his wing and they were able to get him over as a personality. You could even point out that of all the Flock guys who got over, it was Kanyon who got Billy Kidman his start in WCW via DDP.
Then Raven suffers an injury and Page takes Kanyon off of Raven and does his own version of the Freebirds just as Raven was about to do his own. This is where you could touch on him working with celebrities and how good he was and the involvement he had at Great American Bash 1996, Bash at the Beach 1998, Road Wild 1998 and Ready To Rumble. Then they really should have made more of the Positively Page gimmick and the Diamond Cutter out of nowhere shtick since it was so ahead of it's time.
I think they focused too much on the dirt when the story should have been here's this guy who followed his dream and built this reputation as one of the best minds in the business. Then he goes to the WWF, that reputation not only disappears but it's almost held against him since he's held to a higher standard and he's cast away in a humiliating fashion.
It's a limitation of the format, but I just think they should have done Kanyon more justice and explained why he was so well respected among his peers before going in-depth with his mental battles.

Raven said on twitter he does not understand why he was not used here. Did he say “What about me! What about Raven?!” If not than it shouldn’t even count as a tweet.

So great to see Funk tonight.
Onita is a fucking psychopath to refuse to job in Puerto Rico, he is lucky they did not kill him. Great job showing Onita covering Funk during the exploding death match. FCW was able to create some truly emotional moments at times.
Great to see a show also give the proper birth place of hardcore wrestling as the US South. Everyone days CZW or FMW crossed the line, but these matches from the 70's and 80's were fucking psychotic and insanely brutal. Getting cut with a razor is a lot safer than than having a bottle broken on your skull and getting cut with the broken bottle while the camera did not even try to capture the true extent of the injury.
Also KUDO!!! That fireball spot was sick. She got burned so bad. The footage of her after the match was really hard to watch.
Weird hearing Sabu talk as I do not recall every hearing him speak at all before this. He was hilarious talking about the fire death match. And damn, I knew Sheik was hurt in the match but not that bad.

Obviously as hardcore fans, we'd like it to be more in-depth, tell the full story and get things correct and in the right order. It can be infuriating watching some of these wrestling documentaries where they tell the story with loads of errors so that it sort of gets the point across in a condensed time. But this is a show all about the dirt. They just needed some clips of people talking about how good Kanyon was to set up the clips of Cena and Flair saying he wasn't good enough. It is a limitation of the show, but it is what it is - a 40-minute show about wrestling dirt.

With the episode of Johnny K-9 and his life away from the ring, I wonder if (assuming they'll do a fourth season) they do an episode on Dick Murdoch and his alleged involvement with the KKK?

Another great Dark Side of the Ring with the XPW show. For those who never followed XPW or Black, this is one of the craziest feds in the US run by a psychopath. Take ECW and fuel it on sex and coke and you get XPW.
Covers the main beats, the porn side, the XPW invasion of ECW and shoot brawl, some of the insane spots, more hilarious Sabu interview shit, the Luke crucifixion spot, Messiah's story, the Grime's spot from Free Fall, hilarious New Jack shit, the America's Most Wanted story, the obscenity charges and more.
The Messiah story gets a lot of time with him talking about hooking up with Lizzie, the Epic show where he admitted to the affair, the threat from Black, Messiah going to an XPW in the crowd and having to flee, then the attack.
Overall insane episode, which was expected given how crazy this fed was.

Finished the Steroid Trial episode.
Was this perhaps Vince's biggest non-kayfabe babyface moment? A little bit before my time here.
Obviously I prefer if wrestlers weren't/aren't juicing for the sake of their own health. But the journalist and others acting like we're talking about Barry Bonds or Mark McGwire here when it comes to a fixed sport was pretty eye roll worthy if I'm being honest.
Also, seeing Mullet Meltzer call Vince's bluff on Donahue was a trip.
Overall though it wasn't as good as I expected. Johnny K9 and XPW were far more entertaining episodes to watch.

On the Kanyon thing, they had him "come out of the closet" and sing some song before getting bulldozed but this was all before he actually came out of the closet. Did they know before hand and were pulling a rib on him or was it all conincidental? Kanyon being gay was an open secret, I remember reading it while he was still in WCW. It's weird because that doesn't seem to be what history is saying now, but I know I read it back then. It was in regards to either Kiwi or Lenny & Lodi, one of the TEEHEE LOOK AT HOW GAY characters of that day, and whatever gossip rag site I was reading at the time reported Kanyon was offended as a gay man. Only thing I can think of is he went back in the closest once he got to WWF, and those that knew, knew, and it wasn't a big deal.

I'm going to pull a KING KID and bump this but it's only 2 months old not 5 years. Finally, I'm working my way through this. Pretty heavy so I've been putting it off. I've made it through 3 episodes of Season 1. I skipped the Bruiser Brody one because it wasn't what I wanted to watch before bed. The Miss Elizabeth/Macho and Von Erich ones gutted me. Miss Elizabeth was a favorite of mine. I hated Lex Luger and I hated him more after she died and this only renewed my sentiments about him. What a time to be a wrestling fan it was in the 80's. The Screwjob one was interesting in that I think it's taken me years to admit this, but I think Bret was somewhat complicit in the outcome and his own downfall. Honestly, he expected too much. Vince is first and foremost a business man. What Bret was proposing was not what was best for business during a time of war and I don't feel he was being completely reasonable. I will hand my Canadian passport over to RT straight away. My mom actually sat and watched the Von Erich one with me. She could not believe everything that family and specifically Kevin Von Erich had gone through. I knew a lot of it, but it was still sad and to hear it mostly all come from Kevin's mouth who lived it all. Bless him. Which ones did you find the most interesting?

Weird move skipping Brody and going to the Von Erichs because I'm assuming of the heavy content in it. The Von Erichs might be the most tragic in history.
I enjoyed most of them in all the seasons. The Gino Hernandez one coming up for you was interesting. Herb Abrams. Owen Hart. Collision in Korea. Grizzly Smith (talk about a heavy watch). Johnny K-9. I really like mostly the ones I didn't know a TON about going in but every episdoe has some merit and is pretty good.

My favorite of the episodes was Nick Gage. One of the only positive episodes in the series. Like somehow through all he went through, Gage came out a better person. After you see this episode Maiden hunt down some of his interviews on youtube about it. Fleshes it out a lot and shows the oddness that is Nick Gage. Nick Gage being pro-trans rights, pro lbgt, BLM, ect just blows my fucking mind.

It was tragic, but in the end what I saw was despite all the heartache a family who loved one another and the lone brother who has endured to see his legacy continue. I watched the Brody one last night. I knew very little about this story and was absolutely shocked by some of the stuff that happened. No justice served in this one. Invader got away with murder and Carlos Colon helped cover it up. Imagine being Tony Atlas and having to live with that. Also, when are we as fans going to be happy? I think a wrestler could drop dead in the ring because our bloodlust wasn't satiated and we'd still clamor for more. Then because I didn't have enough, I watched the Gina Hernandez one. What a shame. He really did have it all and lost it to a drug addiction. I want to believe he was murdered, but I think the paranoia and everything he experienced in his final days was just from doing too much blow.
