American Psycho is a fun inclusion on the list as I don't think it's come up before , it's gotten votes but never quite broken the threshold. I remember the first time watching it , probably too young to really understand everything the movie was saying but still being absolutely enthralled by the sadisticness and dark humor of it. It was something I had to tell my friends about in the sense of "you won't believe this crazy fucking movie". It's still crazy to this day and while I don't go back to it a ton because it can be dark (even with the humor) and it's not just something I'm ever in the mood to throw on.
Also think it's interesting to find out that it was written and directed by a woman , and her take on toxic masculinity. Makes all the more sense watching it back now and seeing the overtones and audacity of these characters. Actually brilliantly written and of course acted by Bale.
I had it #15 on my own list , so I like the spot here.

Probably gonna see this again in the later countdown. I've only seen this movie once, liked it but it's definitely one of those one and dones. Never been someone to want to read the book (JP and Gump) based on the movie, but this one always intrigued me.

Pretty much my experience the first and only time I watched it, many years ago. Not had a particular desire to revisit it.

I honestly thought the pseudo-intellectual members of PW would've gotten this movie in the top 5.
15 is surprising, but it didn't make my list so I'm happy with the placement. It was an amazing decade of movies and this is definitely a great start to the list.

Amazing film, the book is an acquired taste but much more depraved than the film. sandylea had a differing viewpoint after reading it

She was not impressed. I thought it was... OK, but certainly not Top 15 of the decade good. My favorite part held up as the business card exchange and examination.

American Psycho was my number 10, I love the dark humor and commentary on 80's materialism in general. This was also the film that put Christian Bale on the map for me and he's complemented well by Jared Lehto, Reese Witherspoon, Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe.

Solid flick, not as in love with it as others, I think it's just good...but the Huey Lewis scene is classic.
I'd take the Machinist over American Psycho.

This was 14 on my list. Another significant one for my learning to enjoy cinema. It felt really visceral and urgent as you watched it. Like many, plenty of it went over my head, so it really held up to rewatches. Great performance from Bale, great use of music, and really captivating. Glad it made the list.

I based my list on my favorites of the decade rather than the best so American Psycho did not make the cut. However, while it's not a movie I've revisited, I remember thinking how damn good it was. I'm a sucker for a good dark comedy and this one is up there with the best. I thought it did an excellent job with it's takes on as UT said toxic masculinity and as Shootist said consumerism/materialism/excess of the 80's. Bale is brilliant and perfect for the role of Patrick Bateman.

The book on the other hand, while some parts were pretty good, and the descriptions are amazing - my lord it was repetitive and very boring in parts. All the brands and water!

I had this movie near the bottom of my list for a while but it eventually got cut. Easily a top 20 movie for me but somewhere near the bottom.
Great movie though. Definitely worthy.

I'm not expecting to see too many of my list make it on to the countdown, like iron maiden , I made my list based on my favourites rather than a list of the best films of the decade, so it will likely look vastly different to everyone else. American Psycho did not make my cut, like jTjohncenaGOAT , it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Honestly I still don't know the difference between best and favorite. They become my favorite because they are the best.

For me something like Citizen Kane I can recognize and appreciate the grand scope and effort put into it so technically it would be one of the "best." It has zero rewatch value with me though so it's nowhere near a favorite. My lists are weighted heavily towards the latter.

Agree with @ness about the difference between favorites and the best. They are my favorites because they are the best. Though I also he what Icon is saying - it's just not how I process my lists on anything.
Step Brothers is one of the best movies of the decade to me , certainly one of 3 or 4 landmark comedies that came out in the timespan. Will Ferrells best work and most apt to his style and John C. Reilly is one of the best sidekicks or character actors in movie history. The entire cast is full of them though - everyone who just knows how to play their parts in a comedy and crush every punchline.

I forget, who hates Step Brothers? Dr. Emperor? Baker-man? Bring the hate boys! Because I can't. I got such a stupid kick out of this. I wonder if this would top my personal Farrell vs. Reilly list.

I have a brother and it's hard not to relate to the bickering in the first half. And really the second half is a bond we all need.
