jTjohncenaGOAT asks a fair question about the twist. I guess when you think about it logically, it could come across as a twist for the sake of a twist But when I was watching it in the moment, it blew my mind and I loved it so much I didn't think about it at all. But this is Jigsaw. He loves to fuck with people in the most painful ways he can. That is his whole life. The realisation that a man in your prison was alive the whole time fucks you up psychologically even more than you already aware, especially when he teases your escape and then coldly leaves you in your pitch black prison. Awesome ending.

WANNA PLAY A GAME?!
FUCK YEAH! SAW MAKES THE TOP 10!
LOOK AT THIS FUCKING SCENE TO START SHIT UP!
FUCKING EPIC!
I had SAW at #6 on my list, as my top horror movie. Crazy thing is I didn't even want to see it. I wanted to see The Grudge. I was 'forced' to go watch this movie, but I FUCKING LOVED IT. Way better then that piece of crap Grudge movie I had to endure. The twist at the end was one of the most mind blowing things I ever seen in film. I was so taken aback by it. I mean how epic was this fucking twist?!
GAME OVER, MOTHERFUCKER!
I watched every single SAW movie afterwards on opening night because I became such a huge fan of the story. It got sort of crappy towards the end, but the twists and turns and stuff they had to do every movie was just fucking insane. Plus Jigsaw is a bad motherfucker. And then there's this motherfucker.
Best horror movie of the decade for me. I am honestly so happy that I'm not the only one who fucking loved and appreciated it. Just AWESOMENESS!

Saw has some moments of gore but it's much more of a psychological thriller. The gif of the guy sawing off his own foot that Kid posted is the worst it gets from memory. Saw 2 is also fairly suspenseful and low on gruesomeness, but after that it becomes more and more gore porn.

The first Saw was truly something special, the franchise it spawned was more or less okay, but that first one hit like a ton of bricks...one of the all time great twists for my money. Didn't make my list.

Yeah, same as UT. Never got into the series, never gave it a chance if I'm being fair. Maybe I'd like it since I liked Harry Potter and Game of Thrones but no thanks.

I'm with UT & KING KID on this one. I never got into Lord of the Rings either. Thought the books were boring and the movies no better. Which lead to many a LOTR vs. Star Wars debate with my Lord of the Rings loving friend Boo during our daily pre-work trips to Arby's.

I'm a fantasy geek, but Lord of the Rings is the one series I could never get into. Believe me, I've tried. Couldn't get past the first chapter of Fellowship of the Ring, despite two attempts, years apart. I saw the first movie on TV once and literally fell asleep watching it. Granted, I was pretty tired, but it's not like the film excited me enough to keep me awake. I also watched Return of the King with a bunch of friends at university. Found it boring, except for the talking trees, which made me giggle.

Finishing those three boring door stoppers is one of my greatest achievements in life. I was determined to complete the trilogy no matter how bored I became just to say I had done it. I felt like I could do anything after completing the Bored Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I had a difficult time picking between this and the Two Towers, but since the Academy went with the latter, I decided to go along with it. Adapting LotR in that climate was a monumental effort, but Jackson did a brilliant job of streamlining the story while making it entertaining. I only saw Fellowship in the theatres, but I remember not being as into it because a lot of the individual characters didn't get to shine and the whole climax of the movie was whether Sean Bean's character could be trusted. Looking back, I'd probably enjoy watching this grand adventure start off on the worst note possible, but I didn't feel things really began until Two Towers where you get Smeagle, the interesting king sub-plot and that war scene which may still be the best fantasy war scene of all-time, I don't think GoT quite hit that mark, especially with that Long Night fiasco. Return of the King has the task of giving the entire journey a satisfying conclusion and by the time Frollo journeys up the mountain, you can feel the toll this has taken on him and Sam. Elijah Wood and Sean Aston were so great in those sequences, despite all the odds, these two absolute nobodies defied the odds. I like how it wasn't a straight forward task and it almost goes terribly wrong in such a human way. It could have been easy to force another encounter, but the movie plays it straight and trusts it's characters enough to pull that sequence off and it took it up another level. The whole King Sub-Plot pays off nicely, giving us a satisfying ending and even the side characters all get memorable moments in the big war scene - which isn't quite as good as TT, but it was all about our king pulling off a huge play. The less said about GoT the better. What's this nonsense about watching it on television Emperor? Why weren't you in the theatres with the millions? Wait, did any of you ring deniers see these film in theatres?

Hey man no need to throw shade at the greatest fantasy book series ever, Game of Thrones, just because we don't love LOTR.

I really hope George RR took some notes during those final four seasons on what to avoid, what a load of bollocks it turned out to be.
I'm tiptoeing around the ending, do I have to watch my tongue or have you seen it Bake?

To chime in more productively on the conversation... I read Hobbit as a kid, loved it, read it multiple times, even sought out the animated movie, tolerated it... but NEVER got into the LOTR trilogy. No idea why. Maybe just the thickness of the books was daunting? Then the Peter Jackson shit came along, and by that time my litter sister was ALL IN on these movies and the cast (especially Legolas/Orlando Bloom). Not sure if she'd ever read the books. Think she was just into fantasy, fairies, elves, etc. ANYWAY... so our family and our friend family go to see Fellowship in theatres around Christmas (maybe even on Christmas?) as a thing to do. I recall it being long, mostly boring, but with some cool parts. Sean Bean's epic last stand was dope as hell, and honestly ranked as one of my most memorable deaths whenever we did that countdown. But overall, it was a grueling journey to get through the first movie... just to end feeling so unfulfilled and knowing we'd be in for a slog with the next two installments. We repeated this tradition the following year or whenever with Twin Towers. It felt even longer and even more boring, because it felt like pretty much just two scenes drawn WAY THE FUCK out. As epic as the battle was, did it really need to be THAT long? These movies were losing me more and more. Probably didn't help my sister was getting more and more into them. Also probably didn't help I was begrudgingly obligated to go see this shit now against my will (or so it felt like). So I was ecstatic that I had some holiday wrestling classic or whatever other viable excuse by the time Return of the King came along. I don't even know if the rest of my family and the other family went to go see it. And I abstained from seeing it ever since. I heard feedback how it was the longest and most drawn-out LOTR movie yet. So... NO THANKS! Didn't help all the Oscar talk and dick-sucking either over the years. All these years removed now though, I do have some morbid curiosity to revisit the three movies in whole, in a row. Maybe just to torture Wife, who's never seen or read any of the Hobbit/LOTR stuff. I took advantage of the first trimester and forced her to finally watch the original Star Wars trilogy, so LOTR kinda just feels like the next evolution (since I've always maintained to her that Harry Potter is just LOTR divided by Star Wars). Guess we'll see!

Never seen. Feels like one of those franchises where if you don't see it in the big screen don't bother.

I put Lord of The Rings 3rd or 4th. I didn't specify which one, if I had I would have chosen The Two Towers. The first one was a bit of a chore, but I love these films. Has everything. It's no Star Wars, but they did a great job with a piece of fantasy literature like Lord of Rings. Those who has it on our lists get it, the rest of you are wrong.

Two Towers is the better overall movie but Return of the King is brilliant in it's own right. The Oscar was really more for the trilogy as a whole because the first two films got jerked by the Academy.

I'm tiptoeing around the ending, do I have to watch my tongue or have you seen it Bake? Go ahead. Spoil away. I know how it ends already. All the major stuff anyway. It was impossible to avoid. In true Baker fashion, I haven't even started on the television series. Burned through the books in 2013 or 2014 though. Had actually started re-reading them a few months ago before getting distracted by other things. No biggie. It's not like GRRM is ever going to finish anyway. I did not see any of the LOTR movies in theaters and the best (only good?) part of the books was Tom Bombadil.
