I really enjoy the LOTR franchise (I thought they were boring with the first viewing) but after rewatching them when I was older I appreciate them/enjoy them. But they definitely don’t come close to being in any of my top lists tbh.

None of my choices yet. I did have a Lord of the Rings movie but I went with Fellowship over any of the others.

I love Eternal Sunshine , honestly surprised that it didn't finish higher and I thought it would be a legit contender for the #1 spot but I guess PW's love for the movie has wilted a little bit.
I had zero expectations for the movie and given it's eccentric nature and weird style I really thought I would end up hating it but it's so well written and performed that you can't help but fall in love with it. Carrey and Winslet are great as the leads , tremendous chemistry with a believable relationship that execute the oddness of this movie in a totally charming way.
Then you have just a monster cast supporting them , I love Dunst in everything , Elijah Wood wood is such a disgusting creep and Ruffalo is aces in everything. It all comes together to make a great story and concept and keeps it contained enough to really invest into everything end everyone. Brilliant movie to rewatch as well.
#8 is simply too low. Top 5 movie of the decade at worst.

Ugh. This overrated piece of crap made the top 10., b Piece of crap is taking a bit far, but it's definitely one of the more overrated movies I've ever seen. It's right up there with Lost in Translation and doesn't have a ScarJo panty shot to compensate.

First one of mine to appear, I had Eternal Sunshine at No.12 on my list. It's been so long since I saw it but I remember being blown away with how good Carrey was in this, and I love Winslet anyway but the whole thing was just great.
I'm on the board!

Didn't make my list but did consider it.
PW's former favorite movie of all time before Departed came along.
I used to be in the overrated camp until rewatching it last year. It's actually good and not deserving of the spiteful anti stance so much of you/us hold/held.

I remember I watched this movie because PW wouldn't stop talking about how amazing it was. So one night at like midnight, I started watching it and couldn't believe how boring it was. I get the story being told and how much in the feelings it could make you and I respect the story BUT the movie was not good to me.

I wonder if more people would be more on board with Eternal Sunshine if it wasn't Jim Carrey trying to be serious, and it was a hotter love interest than Kate Winslet with weird hair.

Eternal Sunshine was an important milestone for me since it was the first movie I watched because of the critics. Beforehand I was a creature of habit and would just let mass marketing decide what movies I should see. I didn't have a concept of good or bad movie so I was interested to give into the whims of Roger Ebert and the like. What do you know? The speckled do-gooder knew something because I was caught up in the surreal love story. I loved how specific the memories were, these weren't just stereotypical hollywood cliches, these all felt like intimate moments that happened and it captured those details that elevate a movie. That drive home where Joel is in the car with Jane Adams and David Cross and they're just talking about the day is one of those moments that you rarely see romanticised in film, but here it was in all it's glory.
The first time through, I wasn't into the Lacuna Inc storyline. It was like I paid for a surreal trip down memory lane, not this up-late office goss session. On my last rewatch, I really enjoyed that aspect and how they explored the morality of the process and it gave you a glimpse into the kind of people who do this and how messed up it can be. I especially like how Joel overhears this and starts glitching out Black Mirror style and it becomes a head-trip. I get those faceless dreams all the time, do any of you?
First time through, I thought Joel-Clem had a healthy relationship. Hey I grew up on Jeff Buckley, I thought love was a cold and broken hallelujah. It was good coming back to this and realising how messed up Joel was in all of this and how there were some very obvious warning signs. I don't think they were right together, and I think the looping at the end is tragic because Joel doesn't love Clem warts and all.
I'm talking myself into another re-watch. I really enjoy Kaufman's work, I've yet to actually see all his movies in full, I still need to all of Synecdoche and Malkovich, but I love his other movies and this represented the birth of that.
Honestly not surprised Kid isn't into this, I reckon Kid would have kicked sand in Joel's face. In fact willing to say Kid hates 500 Days of Summer, High Fidelity and Scott Pilgrim. Somebody please alert daveymolez to my predictions and add them to my tally.

Don’t ever compare this to the worst movie ever in 500 Days of Summer. Otherwise beautiful write up Pete.
Kid should try this movie again in a different mindset or something, I figured he would really enjoy it and sorry/not sorry but this is Winsletts best role.

Eternal Sunshine is still my favorite movie of that decade. Interesting way to tell a story about memory, nostalgia, and the value of good experiences even if they wind up poorly. It’s not a particularly Rewatchable film for me so I have only see it three or four times, but everything about it is memorable. Also a really fun featurette is on the DVD showing the old school production tricks they used to do things like the Joel under the table to make Jim look small while she looks like a giant.
The other movies so far - I don’t really remember which of the LOTR movies is my favorite, except I thought the first was crap. My wife likes Saw but I don’t think it has much for me but the twist ending, and I didn’t enjoy No Country the first time I watched it but really did last summer when I tried it again.

I really enjoyed the movie when I finally got around to watching it. I only saw it for the first time last year. With saying that, I did find it pretty forgettable overall and while I understand why so many people love it/praise it so much. It wasn’t really for me.

Don't tell me we're going to get all three.
I regret not submitting a list full of Harry Potter movies for that Young Adult countdown.

Also now I’m convinced The Notebook will NOT make the list and it’s pissing me off!
You guys need to respect that love story! It’s amazing and heartbreaking! You would rather watch this Hobbit and Friends 3 fucking times then to watch a true love story?!
And then there’s The Hangover which I’m starting to worry isn’t going to make the list either and was without a doubt the funniest movie of the decade.
Man that top 100 list is going to probably piss me off. Watch. We won’t even get this many LOTR movies on that list as we are now. People don’t respect their love stories and comedies enough to rank them at a fair range!
The Notebook is getting screwed.
Hangover is getting screwed.
I am pissed off!

Notebook made my list. As did Dark Knight. You were the one asleep at the wheel, mate. But I'm with you and Dr. Emperor... We're getting all three, I know it, because Twin Towers is everyone's favorite from what I understand. But fuuuck that. I'm with Doc Emp in how we should've Harry Potter steamrolled Young Adult. Only thing going for Fellowship is Sean Bean's bad ass last stand death scene.
