That's wonderful iron maiden ! I also braved the -40c weather and went out last night. It was a good friend's birthday and I helped him organize an event at his newish house. SOUP GROUP!! we had about 10 different home made soups to sample from. It was grand. Nothing like eating your fill of soup when it's that cold out Soup isn't food it's for eating while you wait for actual food

Soup isn't food it's for eating while you wait for actual food 2:25 Meal with Bania (when it counts) in exchange for a suit he never wanted may have been the worst trade deal ever ever made.

Soup is great, especially chunky soup with bits of vegetables or meat in it. Fills the body with warmth and tastiness. I usually have bread with soup but not always.

Soup isn't food it's for eating while you wait for actual food What about stew? This is a very interesting question, it comes down to the protein to vegetable or broth ratio. To work it out I need a glass whiteboard and a lab coat.

The Wife's current job is closing up shop at the end of the month (which sucks), however, she had a job interview today and nailed it (they already called her back, and she starts two days after the other one closes), I'm happy for her and she's excited as well (although I think that's more so for the pay increase (on her part), but also knowing she'll still be working, after the end of the month).

sandylea started a new job today and I’m incredibly proud of her after all the BS with her old job (won’t discuss for legal reasons). Should become a distant memory and smooth sailing ahead 🥳

Group I been doing scientific shitposting with for a decade just got founding for us all to attack research articles looking for errors, something a group of us been doing for fun for a decade. Basically if we can find fraud in select well cited papers we will get up to $2k based on what we find. In the past the benefit was solely a change to publish a rebuttal article, but now we straight out can just get paid for what we normally did for fun to shitpost about.
First paper is one on nudge theory. Already found issues, so may be pay in my future once I get time to program out some stuff.

We just signed updated wills and estate documents today, which included the establishment of a trust for our kids should anything happen to me and my wife before they’re adults.
Not necessarily a happy topic, but I’m happy we did it.

Might not be what some consider a 'happy' topic, but an important one and a good job done. Good for you guys.
I don't think people realize how much needs to be considered. Mom and I are working on our living wills right now. Again not a 'happy' topic, but one you need to discuss and have in place for your loved ones.

The closest work I've done in this area is list my wife an the sole beneficiary to my super if something happened. Both names are on the mortgage. I always hoped I'd get sick first before having an accident and I'd have the time before the inevitable happens to just transfer all the cash into her name. I've had a basic will kit sitting on the fridge for months. Otherwise, there's one from when I was single, 24 years old and not a child in sight that sees my parents get everything.

We had one done up after our first son was born, but with two boys and quite a different financial setup in place, we definitely needed a refresh.

Strong recommendation that everyone have a will in place, especially everyone with children. I have it pretty easy with Mrs Foos being a lawyer and practicing family law for a number of years. So yay, free wills. But seriously. Do it.

Weird doc appointment today. Blood sugar down now to almost clear the pre-diabetic state (like .2 A1C left) and somehow dropped 30 pounds without knowing.
Getting that expensive ass weight loss medication too since I do not tolerate the diabetes prevention med I am on (metformin) so now I can just do a shot weekly and call it there. If I get on this expected to drop 60 pounds in a year down to like 180, while having less side effects than I do now.

New car day yesterday, replaced the family Renault SUV with a Subaru Forester Sport. For a car that isn't technically a 4WD, it's got enough tech in it to climb Mt. Fuji.

At an old job they had a beat up Subaru (I think it was an Impreza?) as the company car. It was a zippy dude, I used to love having a reason to drive somewhere and get out of the office where my manager and her boss both hated me.

Subaru make a good car. I had the XV.. now called The Crostrek for 5 or 6 years, and despite being underpowered, once you knew how to push it, it was a fun car to drive.
I think Sabaru was one of the first to really popularise the flappy paddles. Now it's a standard feature.

Saw someone list their AC/DC albums for about $200, someone commented and let them know they were original pressings and probably worth hundreds each so best to adjust listing. Cool to see someone help the guy out rather than flip it.

See this a lot with Magic cards. A lot of people who find a box in a closet have no idea how much the old cards are worth today. Some will try to buy them low, but a lot of people will let them know they have thousands of dollars at least on their hands and they need to take them to a reputable shop.

I see it a lot with older cars. Parents, children, wives inherit an old car and because they have no use for it, they put it on Facebook for scrap money. I messaged one lady to add an extra zero to the end of the $1,000 listing and she got her $10k. I never got a thanks however, despite making her $9,000.

He has an epic collection all bought new, nearly all 60's. I don't want to sell them, just play them.

Got a nice surprise today in that I received another raise...and a bonus. Now I won't see the bonus until end of Sept which is kind of weird to me seeing as that's our year end and it was based on our performance for the year before, but I'm not complaining. I wish it were a pre tax bonus though cause I lose 40% of it, but again just an observation, not a complaint. That means in 2 years I've gotten 3 raises, an extra week vacay, I work 90% of the time from home and I got a bonus. Plus they are paying me back for my current schooling to the tune of 14K. Makes me think back to all those years with no raises, working 16+ hour days with no OT and finally I feel I'm with a company who treats it's workers decently. Of course it's definitely not all monetary, but it sure helps.

An end-year bonus being 9 months late seems kinda weird, but... maybe Canada? When does fiscal year in Canada end?
