After fifteen months I finally have a little light at the end of the tunnel to get off of mandatory Overtime. No word on when, but hoping to be back to normal by mid-summer. With the commute my days have been a little more than 12 hours of work and driving through the pandemic so I’m a little burnt out.

I’m salary but I get paid regular hourly rate for the extra hours currently which is good at least. I’ve put back quite a bit into savings since the pandemic started.

I work 12 hours days but don't get overtime anymore since COVID started which makes zero sense as I am just as busy and in some ways more. Because of this if I decide to come on PW and waste 15 minutes during the day, I don't feel guilty.

I feel for you guys though. I sit at a desk in my basement. Not even close to what you guys are dealing with.

It’s not normal, typically they couldn’t care less how many hours I work.

This upcoming check is the first time in like a year I worked overtime. 7 and 5 hr shifts (I left early because fuck it) and it netted me ~400 extra. Fuck that. If you ain't talking 2x minimum working past 40 is just not worth it.

I have been working 9:10am to 6pm in the office.
Home to see my kids and do the bedtime routine with the Superstar and goddess amongst mortals that is MRS iNCY.
Then 7:40pm I break out the laptop and work until 1 or 2am and then go to bed before starting it all over again, where whenever I can, I drop my delightful daughter at school.



Getting to the positive part... Apart from the amazing family that I have been blessed with.
This past 12 months I have sold more plant and equipment, than my previous best two or three years put together.
It can be a bit misleading though, because capital sales is cyclical and it could just mean I won't sell anything for the next two years... I don't think so based on my sales funnel, but you can't tell until it happens.

It's like the (for lack of a better figure of speech) monkey on my back has finally left me alone. Everything is starting to look up again, and for the first time in months I can sigh a bit of relief.

Looks like step-kiddo is calling or texting this weekend. Sounds like it will be a sad call, as she is scared she mom passed on her mental illness to her Not talked to the little one in 6 or 7 years but it sounds like she remembered way more from our time together than we had expected she would.

Been talking to her for a few days now. She seems happy. And I never expected to talk to her again after we dropped off their stuff so feels good to even know she is doing ok. She has not brought up what made her want to chat with me, but may just be she is addicted to her phone and wanted more people to text.

So I might have a new car on Saturday.

Which sadly will segue into the negative thread when overtime now goes on the table so I can pay it off soonish.

Bought the car yesterday. It's basically just the new year version of my old corolla. Traded in my old for the down payment. Yeah considering the used car market I probably could've gotten more if I sold on my own, but I'm fine with getting less just to make the process clean and painless. I don't wanna deal with some craigslist asshole calling me after the sale or whatever drama private sales can bring on. Peace of mind is worth getting ripped off.

Only issue is paying for it. It's a 5 year loan, but I want it paid off in 3 which I can do by just working overtime. I've never signed the desired list, but whenever I wanted to do projects that I don't find time for during the week or if I need some extra cash I work a Saturday here and there. For when I get lazy or need a day off from doing that I can just dip into the emergency fund. Might even just put a good chunk towards it and then slowly build it back up.

One thing I've learned from the FEW people that I've shared the news with is that I shouldn't be doing that. Seems nobody can just be happy for you. Congrats man, I hope you enjoy the car. That's it. Don't start trying to dissect my loan and tell me I shoulda done X. You do that if you buy a car, but I did it how I wanted to. Unless you're gonna pay the car for me STFU.

It was heading towards 10 years and man the tech has changed a lot. My other car barely had a backup camera. It's like a shitty laptop cam versus the high quality one used for actual videos.

I get it. I tend to trade mine in when they get to about 5 years. I like having the warranty. My mom has never bought a new car or paid car payments in her life and boy do I hear it every time I do.

Anyone who craps over you for this is a kill joy, a corolla is an excellent car, I hire a lot of cars for work and the corollas are always excellent everything just works.
Anyone who would tell you to lease is an idiot.
A 5yr loan that you can afford with a plan to pay it off in 3 is the perfect strategy.

I hear you on the technology, I'm tempted to upgrade my car just to get Android Auto.
I'm tossing up between a trade in and just changing the stereo and keeping it for another 18months.

I just started leasing after I totaled my fully paid off Altima Warrior.

I’m now driving a blue Infiniti that I got 2 years ago and named Cookie Monster because my kid love(d) it as an infant. My wife’s car is not a lease though. I’m just bougee as hell and like having a new car every 3 years. I stick to Nissan because I can get my newer car with no down payment. I’m stingy and rather pay a little more a month then give a chunk of money up front.

My thought on leasing now is I have a side business and you can 100% write off a lease, but you can’t a car payment. You can only write off a percentage of the interest of the car payment. Food for thought.

Also, I drive a Corolla IM. It’s my 4th Corolla so I am with you in Toyota town!

This was my first car. I wanted to keep it for 10 years before moving on. May have jumped the gun @ 7, but oh well. Hopefully I can get this one to 10.

My Dad is the type to trade in his right when he pays them off. And since he drives it within the mileage rule, he's basically paying new price for a lease. But if that's his luxury in life so be it. If I was even remotely a car guy I might ride them into the ground to avoid future car payments. And I'm sure a new corolla with my mileage and regular maintenance would be a worthwhile candidate. We shall see.
