I like A Christmas Story a lot , it's a holiday staple in the background of the TV as everything is happening around here on X-Mas day. Try to watch it at least once a year. I'd imagine it's the same for a ton of Americans since it's in constant loop for 24 hours.
Didn't make my list. Shocked it made the Top 200 but I guess if people were trying to represent everything than they could fit it in their 100.

Never heard of it, but the poster makes it look like a film I'd never want to watch in a million years.

A Christmas Story isn't part of the holiday rotation in the UK, so I've never seen it. Also why I had never seen National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation until last year.
I could say things about others that I missed that made my top 200 (Blade Runner #122, North By Northwest #161, The Fellowship of the Ring, #178, In Bruges #185, Butch Cassidy #196) but likely won't find the time. Can't catch them all. And I'll leave LOTR chat until they've all appeared.

I understand it's probably more of an American thing, but with how much it's brought up on PW I have a hard time believing Emperor 's never heard of it. GET OUT YER BUBBLE MAN!

Could you imagine watching Christmas Story not on Christmas Day and not on TBS? Also start to finish? My sister bought me the Blu Ray, I have no idea what for. I see it at least twice on Christmas Day each year. The movie is perfectly built for that all day marathon though, a bunch of lightly connected stories that are fun to watch for fifteen minutes, go back to doing your thing, then catch him shooting his eye out later. Eventually I see all the scenes, but I didn’t really care what order they came in.

🤯 and Emperor are both big champions of Matchstick Men , and it's a really good movie. Cage is awesome in it and the story is fun with a great twist at the end. Definitely something that is going to get a rewatch from me down the line and while it didn't grab me enough to probably ever crack my own Top 100 - its definitely the type of movie I could see throwing on any given day as it's a super easy watch. Also I love Sam Rockwell in everything.

Mt.Rushmore time.
I think this definitely makes Nic Cages. I would go with The Rock, Face Off, Raising Arizona and Matchstick Men.
For Ridley Scott I don't think it quite makes his, though Emperor and pi might fight me on that one. I got Alien, Bladerunner, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. Only one I could see Matchstick Men replacing is Black Hawk Down.

I'm pretty sure I had not heard of it until a few years ago. It really is not known over here. This isn't like Emp claiming he had never heard a Prince song. I think this definitely makes Nic Cages. I would go with The Rock, Face Off, Raising Arizona and Matchstick Men. Feels like Leaving Las Vegas has to be on there - Oscar for Best Actor.

8. Matchstick Men 14. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid 15. Silver Linings Playbook 27. Spirited Away 29. Logan 44. In Bruges 60. Catch Me If You Can 69. Paranormal Activity The first of my Top 10 gems to appear on the list. Matchstick Men is incredible. Like UT says, Sam Rockwell is always gold, as is Nicolas Cage. Put them together with an incredible plot and you get a masterpiece. Leaving Las Vegas has to be on Cage's Rushmore. Not only an Oscar winner, but one of his best movies. But to be fare, the guy has made a ton of great movies so it'd be hard to pick four.

A Christmas Story was #58 on my list. Absolutely adore this film. I grew up watching it and as others have said.. I can’t imagine Christmas without watching this movie on constant re-run on TBS. perfect Christmas movie! However, it’s still not my favorite Christmas movie.
Shutter Island was cool to watch once. Now it sucks to go back and re-watch because the twist is known. Doesn’t hold up on the re-watch. I will say that it was a good first watch. Twist ending is right up there with Sixth Sense and the Mist for crazy endings.
I kind of liked Matchstick Men. It didn’t crack my list but it was still pretty enjoyable. Been meaning to try to catch it in a pawn shop or something for $1-2 but no luck.
You dudes keep talking about Mt. Rushmore for Nic but no one mentioning Gone in 60 Seconds which was everything I wanted in a car film that stupid Fast and Furious couldn’t pull off.

Bookending the day with Christmas movies. I love Elf , one of the funniest , sweetest and well rounded Christmas movies out there. It barely missed my list but it was in the fight for sure .... I ended up only putting one Christmas movie on though.
It's weird I always thought this movie came after Ferrell's emergence , but it was actual instrumental in the beginning of it.

In all seriousness, Cage's Mt. Rushmore should probably be The Rock / Face Off / Con Air (Come on, people! How yinz forgetting this!?) / Leaving Las Vegas (for the Oscar) —
But, if I was doing a personal preference Mt. Rushmore for him, it'd be:
Matchstick Men / Adaptation / The Weather Man / Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Elf is my favourite Christmas film and one of my favourite comedy films. Normally I don't like sappy, manchild stories like this one, but something about Elf just hits that sweet spot. Maybe it's the fact that it's Christmas themed, and during that time I am more forgiving about the stuff I normally poo poo. Or maybe it's the charming performances by Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel and James Caan.
There are clear parallels to Miracle on 34th Street, my second favourite Christmas film. The concept of Santa being real and playing out on my screen is a beautiful thing.

Heck, I may would rather just watch Gone in 60 Seconds 13 times before id watch the Fast & Furious franchise.

Moneyball is NOT my kind of sports movie. I found it highly overrated.
Mt. Rushmore? Maybe for the director as I've never heard of him.
Brad Pitt? Not a chance, Pitt has a ton of great movies under his belt. I would go with Seven, Ocean's 11, Fight Club and Interview with the Vampire for my picks. But you could easily go with 12 Years a Slave, The Tree of Life, The Big Short and Inglorious Basterds and it would be just as legit. And quite a few people would argue for Legends in the Fall.

I liked Money Ball ok enough. I just don’t think of it when I think of great sports movies. Remember the Titans, Facing the Giants, Rocky I - IV, Rudy.. those are my favorites. Money Ball is just good.

30. A Christmas Story- The early part of my list was basically just my most frequently watched movies. 3 Christmas movies were in this group since I am guaranteed to watch them once a year. A Christmas Story is one of them. Ralphie, along with his family and friends, has a series of amusing events, many of them classics, with the overarching theme (hehe see what I did there?) of Ralphie wanting a Red Ryder BB Gun for his Christmas present. And you gotta love Darren McGavin as The Old Man.

Never heard a Prince song? When Doves Cry is my #2 ALL TIME favorite song. If I made a list of 100 favorite songs there would be at least 5 Prince songs.
Both Elf and Christmas Story would factor in between 70-100 for me.
Never heard of Matchstick Men (sell me on it) and haven't yet seen Moneyball.
