Neither Moneyball nor Elf made my list but they're definitely movies I enjoy. Top 150 probably.
Only one Christmas movie made my list and I threw it on near the bottom just because my wife and I watch it every year as tradition. We watched it our first Christmas together because she had never seen it and she loved it, so we made it a thing.
It likely didn't make the list though. It's Bad Santa for anyone curious.

I had one Christmas movie as well that made my list in the mid 20's, as well as one lower down that could be construed as a Christmas movie. I just kicked my own ass realizing I forgot another that should have been in the 20's. Argh!!! I am keeping track of the ones I forgot whether through this list or if it pops into my head after the fact. I'm up to 14 I believe.

Moneyball is NOT my kind of sports movie. I found it highly overrated. Mt. Rushmore? Maybe for the director as I've never heard of him. Brad Pitt? Not a chance, Pitt has a ton of great movies under his belt. I would go with Seven, Ocean's 11, Fight Club and Interview with the Vampire for my picks. But you could easily go with 12 Years a Slave, The Tree of Life, The Big Short and Inglorious Basterds and it would be just as legit. And quite a few people would argue for Legends in the Fall. Once upon a time in Hollywood is definitely on his Mount Rushmore.

I have never heard a Prince song. It feels difficult to believe that someone living in the UK for decades hasn't heard Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, 1999, Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World or Kiss at least once EACH, let alone only one of them, let alone none of them. Obviously you will have heard a Prince song, be it from a passing car or in a shop, but might not be aware of it. I still find it incredibly difficult to believe you could listen to each of those listed songs and not recognise at least one. If you've watched Burton's Batman, you've heard a Prince song.

Once upon a time in Hollywood is definitely on his Mount Rushmore. On paper, you feel like it has to be, given the Oscar win in a successful film, and it being a late career film to cover a different stretch. But I don't feel like it is something that will immediately come to mind for me when I think of Pitt. Maybe that will change over time, as others have had decades to seep in. Pitt is a big enough star with enough famous roles that have entered pop culture that I could at least see an argument for it not being in there.

Full Metal Jacket is my 2nd favorite Vietnam War movie. Kubrick casting R.Lee Ermey (a former marine drill sergeant) as Hartman was an inspired choice. His performance absolutely makes the first half of the movie.
A lot of people say they couldn't get into the 2nd half of the movie, but for me it was just as good. It did a great job of showing the brutality of combat, the casual irreverence of your average grunt coupled with the bonds that developed between them. The scenes with the sniper were has harrowing as it gets.
The writing throughout the film is as good as it gets. I'm not normally a huge fan of Kubrick's directing style but it works to perfection to here.
Some would say Platoon is better but I find that to be nonsense. I would watch Full Metal Jacket 10x before I watched Platoon.

Joker is an in your face example of the "duality of man" both wanting to be a killer while bucking the system and wearing peace symbols while on the front lines. Kubrick did a great job of getting across the extremes of human character when put in extraordinary situations.

I have never heard of A Christmas Story and I have never heard a Prince song. Elf is a charming and fun movie. Very good. Not a Top 100 movie.
Never heard a Prince song? When Doves Cry is my #2 ALL TIME favorite song. If I made a list of 100 favorite songs there would be at least 5 Prince songs.
Both Elf and Christmas Story would factor in between 70-100 for me.
Never heard of Matchstick Men (sell me on it) and haven't yet seen Moneyball.
I just listened to When Doves Cry. I expected to like it for some reason going in. It was very catchy. It seems like the kind of song I typically like...but something was a bit off. It was the voice, I think. I couldn’t really enjoy it that much and I can’t place my finger on why. I guess I am not a Prince fan. My son immediately started rocking out and shaking his head back and forth though so you may have made a future Prince fan out of him. Time will tell.

Anyone else feel like the movie just disappoints at the halfway point? I always thought the first half was fun and when it was on I’d make a point to watch. As soon as boot camp is over, so is my interest.

Well at least you tried and obviously your son has excellent taste.
I have watched Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, Born on the Forth of July, Apocalypse Now, etc but I will never re-watch them. I don't like war movies. They make me very uncomfortable, especially for some reason Vietnam based ones. Maybe because the thought of what they went through upsets me to no end. Maybe because those who did live never came back whole physically or mentally. Maybe because I was married to a soldier and have many close friends who were/are which makes them no longer nameless and faceless to me. Whatever it is, you won't find a war movie on my list, but I can appreciate them in that if I was not uncomfortable, the actors and director have not done their job. It took me a few times to make it past the first 10 minutes of Saving Private Ryan without running out of the room in tears. I'm such a chick.

The only Batman song that matters is this one: Can't disagree with the Seal point. Prince's soundtrack isn't great, as is humourously pointed out in the great film Shaun of the Dead. If you are from the States, it's even worse! Who was from Blackpool? HilaryFan? Did you guys have similar looking avatars on the old site? I'm got some confusion going on here.

I figured I could get some with the trivia this time and thought the clues would lead to a different movie. Whoopie doesn't appear in this movie until like 39 minutes and 45 seconds in and went on to win best supporting actress.
However it was the most rented movie of 1991 , which means it would have came out in 1990. SOTL did come out in 1991 but probably wouldn't have reached video stores until 1992.

As for the movie , I always thought of it as some kind of mom flick - I remembered liking it but hadn't watched it in forever so I watched it a few weeks back.
Man was I wrong , this movie fucking rocks and I'm annoyed with myself waiting for so long to go back to it - I just forgot.
Patrick Swayze is the ultimate leading man at this point in time - on fire at the movies with both the ladies and the guys for good reasons. Not a huge fan of Demi Moore but she doesn't have a ton to do in this and what little she does is perfect for the character. No wondering why this made her the highest paid actress in Hollywood for some time to follow. And then there is Whoopi who comes in and crushes it as Oda Mae - her and Swayze have such great chemistry and despite being a love story between Swayze and Moore ... it's really their relationship that carries most of the movie.
It can't be undersold how big this movie was , #1 at the box office (with Pretty Woman at #2) really sold the idea that romantic movies could be huge draws. It was nominated for Best Picture and other Oscars , it instantly became one of the most watched films on the planet for probably a two year run and really reinforced the fact that Swayze might have been the biggest actor on the planet at that time.
And then you have one of the more iconic scenes in movies with the clay pot scene and Unchained Melody playing , a song that also enjoyed a resurgence after this movie. It's great. So much better than remembered and probably would have made it around the 80s or 90's on my list had I watched it again sooner.

Ghost is my #1.
It's everything I want out of a movie. Action, romance, comedy, great character dynamics and scenes that just stick with you. It doesn't commit to any one thing which makes it perfectly rewatchable.
Now Demi Moore-Patrick Swayze are OK, but it's the chemistry between Whoopi GOLDBERG and Patrick Swayze that gets my attention. I love it when a movie pairs up the protaganist with a con-artist and ultimately redeems that character. This maybe the best with Goldberg as Oda Mae, a charlatan psychic who happens to be the only living person who recognises Swayze's Sam. It's such an unlikely pairing and it adds an air of tension to every scene because you don't know if Mae will literally give up the ghost the first chance she gets so when she does assist Sam in tying up a few loose ends, her moment feels far more earned.
I also like Vincent Schiavelli's side-plot. You'll recognise him from a bunch of movies, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was the first time I connected the dots and he's got a great brooding presence. He seems like somebody who would have been fantastic in a Universal Monster movie. Schiavelli plays this mysterious ghost in the subway who helps train Sam to interact with other objects and he's completely off his rocker. It's one of those side-plots I enjoy, similar to Ladybird with the art director where you're just given enough clues to put things together but it's never spelled out exactly what his deal was or the point of his character beyond being a plot device.
The music is great, the instrumental of Unchained Melody is one of my favourite compositions of any song put to film and the ending is brilliant. It's pretty remarkable that it was directed by Jerry Zucker, the guy behind Airplane and Naked Gun. I just think he knows how to make compelling movies and how to pace his stuff out.
Chicken noodle soup for the soul and the afterlife.

Kubrick is one of my favourite directors, probably my favourite overall. Full Metal Jacket is also my favourite movie of his. It's incredible.

Chicken noodle soup for the soul and the afterlife. GET OFF MY TRAIN!! Great scene. Also love the ghost mentoring scene when he teaches Swayze how to transfer his energy. Also shout out to Carl Bruner for being the ultimate greedy , weasel prick villain too. That scene where he takes his shirt off and tries to get with Demi still makes my skin crawl. Willie Lopez is a great henchmen as well. For a movie that could have easily went wrong in so many ways , and really be looked back upon as ultimate cheese and fodder it really holds up well in almost every aspect as you said. It brings everything. The only thing you can watch it with in 2020 and sort of cringe is the special effects but that's what you're going to get from any movie around that time. They certainly don't take anything away and even add a bit to the comedy of it all.

I really like Ghost. But that scene at the end when the demons come and drag that dude to Hell terrified me as a child. Can’t even imagine watching it anymore. Also the scene where Pat possesses Whoopi’s body is just a little silly for me. But whatever. Rest of the movie is just crazy good.

I have a ton of chick flicks and a couple Patrick Swayze films on my list, but Ghost is not one of them. I don't know what it is about it, but I watched it once and never felt the need to watch it again. It remains a favorite for many, but seemed to miss the mark for me.

Ghost didn't make my list but damn it it SHOULD have. I absolutely LOVE Ghost it's the only romance movie I watch EVERY time it comes on. As UT pointed out Patrick Swayze could do absolutely NO wrong during this time, and Whoopi Goldberg was having a pretty decent run in her own right. Demi Moore is probably the weakest part of the movie, but I still think she put in an acceptable performance and accomplished what she needed to do. She was particularly good in the scene where Sam slides the penny up the door. If I had thought about it Carl would have made my villain list, there are few things as despicable as a best friend that stabs you in the back, especially with fatal consequences.
Anyway I must agree with the general consensus so far. Ghost is awesome and is a worthy addition to this list.

And it's Mt Rushmore time.
Patrick Swayze is a definite yes. Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and Roadhouse. If I were to substitute a movie I would put Next of Kin instead of Roadhouse.
It's a yes for Whoopi Goldberg as well (Ghost, Jumping Jack Flash, The Color Purple and The Lion King)
I would say it's definitely a yes for Demi Moore as well, but I can't come up with a Mt.Rushmore for her.

Agree with your Rushmore’s , though Road House cannot be replaced.
Moore’s is Ghost , Striptease , A Few Good Men and probably St. Elmos Fire. She doesn’t have a great IMDB but Ghost made her a superstar for a bit.

What about G.I.Jane for Moore? I'm not a huge Demi Moore fan, but I always thought that was the movie that turned the tide for her. Then there's Indecent Proposal, The Scarlett Letter and Disclosure. If you're a chick, Now and Then is one of my daughter's favorites.
