- Despite winning a Golden Globe and being nominated for a Supporting Actor Oscar , one of the stars of this film regretted making it , fired his agent and refused to do press for the movie. - Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the lead role of our next movie to star in Titanic. - The word fuck and it’s derivatives are used 165 times in the movie. This blows my mind. Could you imagine DiCaprio as that character? I think they landed the perfect actor for it. Anyways. Hate the movie.

I actually know the answer to this because of the first clue, so I won't answer, but I didn't know the second clue. That's fucking hilarious. Imagine him in that role. IMAGINE THE ENDING WITH HIM. I love Boogie Nights , I was hesitant to watch it for the longest times because I thought it was just that weird porn movie but I'm glad I watched it and corrected myself. As I've said in the past when it came up , it's more of a love letter to the 70's in general than anything. They put this on full display with the way the cut the movie into two separate parts starting with the insane Little Bill sequence on New Years Eve that leads to the 80's and the downfall of everything and the movie going into a much darker place. The cast in this movie is one of the greatest of all time and everyone is great and fits. Julianne Moore is forever one of my favorites for just her role as Amber Waves , Burt Reynolds if he wasn't such an idiot could have revived his career and he was great and then you have supporting characters played by incredible actors like Cheadle , Reilly , Macy , Graham , PSH and they all bring something to the movie , a story or a feeling and none are wasted for a second. It's just a movie inhabited by great characters , with good storytelling and great writing. Really sucks it finished outside the Top 100. The trivia for this movie was fun. Can't believe Reynolds shunned the movie that much but as JTJ and RT said - Leo as Dirk would have been hilarious and incredible. I can't even picture it. As for Mt. Rushmores , I would say pretty much everyone involved in a large capacity. Reynolds , Wahlberg , Moore , PTA , Reilly , Graham are all locks.

Boogie Nights fell just outside of my 100 but I haven't seen it in a long time. That Leo trivia is incredible, especially considering what his 1997 looked like instead. I actually think Leo needs Titanic etc. to establish him as a heartthrob who then takes on all of these incredible roles to prove himself. If he'd done Boogie Nights instead I think his career would look very different - it's the early fame giving way to a stellar career that makes him who he is. But yeah, the final scene would have taken his female fandom to a whole new level.

Yeah Leo made the right move , Titanic made him the biggest star in the world and launched his early career. I also read he recommended Wahlberg.
It’s a move that worked out for everyone because Wahlberg ended up being perfect for the role. I don’t know that Leo could have played the naive or “dumb” side of the Diggler character as well as Wahlberg. He has that ditzy charm perfect for the character.

Winter Soldier is fantastic and while it didn't make my Top 100 , it is definitely in the Top Tier of MCU Movies for me , which IMO is a rather large tier. I know it's a lot of peoples favorite MCU movie and I totally understand it. They made a espionage thriller and a really fucking good one at that. I would say that for anyone not totally into the MCU , this is one of the movies I'd show them that the genre can go above and beyond just being another Superhero movie and has so many directions to go. I love Cap and Natasha's dynamic/chemistry in this one a lot too , it's Nick Fury's best movie too and Bucky Barnes played a great and believable pseudo villain - and for icing on the cake we get Redford as Pierce. It's hard for me to think about Rushmores for the MCU actors. I think this is Evans best performance of his trilogy and the most "HIS MOVIE" of the three. The original established the character but this expanded him and made the rest of the journey happen. I would say it's on his for sure. Winter Soldier , Snowpiercer , OG Avengers and probably Endgame. Three MCU movies but he so embodied Cap that it's heard to place anything else on there. I also think it has a spot for Scarlett too. It's the movie her character was most at home in being a spy and as I said - her and Evans play well off of eachother she really helps sell the movie. Lost in Translation , Winter Soldier , Infinity War , Marriage Story( ) maybe... hmm tough one.

Boogie Nights is a fun film but it didn't make my list. Winter Soldier is my favorite MCU movie and my #3 favorite overall.
3. Captain America: Winter Soldier
They just got it soooo right. The story, the cast, the action scenes. Everything was perfect. It's a movie I re-watch often and if it's on, I'm tuning in.

Winter Soldier is fantastic, like all MCU movies. I don't think there's a single Marvel movie that is specifically worse so as not to be in the same tier - except Guardians 2.
Interesting to note, 2020 is the only year since 2010 to not have a Marvel movie release during it. What a shitty year. Every time you think it's the worst one ever, it just gets even worse.

Boogie Nights is one of those movies that could have gone wrong in SO many ways but instead every choice works to perfection. I don't know why Burt Reynolds turned against this movie so hard because it's easily one of the greatest performances of his career and he was a perfect casting choice. Matter of fact the casting for this movie from the top down was spot on. There isn't a single role I would recast.
Completely disagree that Leo could have played the lead role, (especially considering this was pre 2000's Leo) This was the role Mark Wahlberg was BORN to play, they couldn't have nailed a better actor for this part in a 100 years and it definitely sits on his Mt. Rushmore (Boogie Nights, The Departed. Four Brothers and The Fighter) You could easily replace Four Brothers with about a half dozen other movies, but I think Boogie Nights, The Departed, and The Fighter are locks.

I would say Ted , whether one likes the comedy or it or not it was a pretty big hit and proved his straight comedy chops. I live Four Brothers but that’s not a very famous movie.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (My #22)
Favorite Scene:
Maybe the creepiest scene of the movie and one of the best for sure. There are a few other great ones as well.
Favorite quote: "I'm your boyfriend now, Nancy." Just another creepy ass moment with the tongue then coming through the phone. There are better exchanges in the movie but as a singular quote that one stands out the most because of the special effects as well.
What holds up? Freddy Krueger as an actual villain and not a sideshow comedy character. Peoples perception of him has changed so much over the years because of the sequels and promotion but in the original Freddy was legit scary and a great villain.
Nancy Thompson as a GOAT final girl. She is on the Mount Rushmore of Final Girls and her performance in this movie is as great as any of them. You still see shades of her today and homages paid in other movies (Halloween 2018).
That poster! It's on my wall for a reason.
What doesn't hold up? What they did to Freddy in the long run. I get it was for money but I hate that people think he was always some wisecracking clown and was more entertaining than scary. Granted he gets his ass kicked in this movie by the end but that's just a horror staple.
Who wins the movie? It's New Line Cinema. One would think it was Craven or Englund but this is the movie and franchise that started New Line and made so much money off small budget's Nightmare built New Line. It's why I totally don't blame them for commercializing Freddy in the long run because he was a cash cow and the most marketable horror villain of all time.
Mt Rushmore: Everyone's aside from Johnny Depp.

Man, I love me some Freddy Krueger. He was my favorite as a kid, but was overtaken by Michael Myers later on.
STILL; I can't rank the Elm Street movies because I can't tell you which movie is which. They are all kind of the same in my eyes.

Winter Soldier made my list at #80. I’m mostly a DC guy but I love what they did with Captain America in the Marvel movies. I think I snuck every movie he was in (except A:AoU) onto my list somewhere.
Nightmare on a Elm Street just isn’t my bag.

Nightmare on Elm Street is Wes Craven's magnum opus and IMO is definitely on the Mt. Rushmore of all-time great horror films. IMO it is the second greatest horror film ever made, with only Halloween topping it. I definitely should have found room on my list for it somewhere.

Speed (My #17)Some heavy hitters coming off my list now and Speed for my money is one of the better action movies you can ask for , it's everything it needs to be with an absurd plot , crazy stunts , an over the top villain and a romance you're engaged in. Corny lines as well. It rarely gets better as an action romp than Speed. Favorite Scene: Shout out to the scene where Jeff Daniels and company gets blown up in a trap , but this scene sets up the rest of the movie so perfectly. Favorite quote: POP QUIZ HOTSHOT! - Any iteration of that coming out of Hopper's mouth is my favorite quotes of the movie. What holds up? Dennis Hopper as the villain and his performance. It's great every time and you believe it , it's a shame he doesn't get put up there with some of the other all time great action movie villains because he should. Keanu and Sandra's Chemistry - I think they have great chemistry and there is a reason why Sandy B. went on to become so marketable as the loveable , dateable girl next door. Her and Keanu are fun together and really make a lot of the dialogue in the bus scenes work. What doesn't hold up? I mean some of the stunts are silly , especially the bridge one and it even looks worse going back but it'll always get a pass from me because it's a fucking action movie. It's supposed to be fun and live on the edge of plausibility. Who wins the movie? Keanu. He becomes maybe the biggest action star on the planet after Point Break and this , and this was his sole vehicle to really shine and he didn't disappoint. Not that he's a great actor in it by any means but he was the perfect leading man action star. Weird that he never truly capitalized on it until Matrix years later. Mount Rushmore:Keanu - Yes Bullock - Yes Hopper - Yes. Though I don't know a ton of his old catalogue Jeff Daniels - No. Though 1994 was a great year for him with this and Dumb and Dumber both making huge splashes. Alan Ruck - 100% yes. Fucking love Ruck just playing another version of Cameron in this. What's the movies legacy? As I said up top , it's legacy to me is one of the most fun , crazy and rewatchable action movies of the nineties. Corny dialogue , over the top villain , insane plot and crazy stunts. It's the movie that really gave us Keanu as a leading man and Bullock as a perfect leading lady. It belongs on the list for sure and I get it not being higher but it's one of the movies I can watch any time it's on , at any point. An ass planter as one thereallt would say.

Loved Speed when it first came out, but I've kind of cooled on it since. It's now only my 5th favorite Keanu film (John Wick, Matrix, Point Break and The Replacements are ahead of it.) Unlike many I didn't care much for Annie at all, and the studio was ignorant for trying to make a sequel around her after Keanu turned it down.
Keanu's Mt.Rushmore? Inspite of my preferences I would have to say yes. John Wick, Point Break, The Matrix and Speed. Although FOR ME, I remove Speed for The Replacements.
Sandy B? Miss Congeniality, Gravity, The Blind Side...and yes probably Speed, although The Proposal would have a good argument. My sentimental favorite Sandy B. role though is from Demolition Man.
Dennis Hopper? Easy Rider, Blue Velvet, True Grit, and yeah I would have to put Speed in there.
Jeff Daniels? Dumb and Dumber, Gettysburg, Speed....and I've got nothing after that.

Speed was my first Keanu movie and I really liked it. Even at like 9 years old I knew that bus jump scene was garbage. Regardless. I liked it a lot. Didn’t scratch my top 100 and probably would struggle to get into my 200, but that’s about where it would have fallen.

Arachnophobia to complete the Jeff Daniels Mount Rushmore. 11. Apocalypse Now: Redux 12. 2001: A Space Odyssey 17. Planes, Train and Automobiles 21. Clerks 25. A Nightmare On Elm Street 29. Rocky IV 40. Back To The Future Part II 46. Braveheart 47. Boogie Nights54. Speed 56. Full Metal Jacket 66. American Psycho 67. Falling Down 79. Logan 83. Scarface 87. Apollo 13 Boogie Nights is just an enjoyable romp with many fantastic characters and tremendous writing. It also has one of the all time soundtracks and I love the transition from the 70's to the 80's and how the business of porn had changed. Still my favorite scene is when Thomas Jane and Wahlberg are getting the drugs from Alfred Molina, crazy stuff. Then there are all the scenes with Heather Graham... outstanding. A Nightmare On Elm Street is still one of the finest original concepts in horror and preying on the most basic of fears, the bad dream. It also churned out an original and iconic villain in Freddy Krueger, when it comes down to it my favorite horror franchise. Continuing on with more memorable theater experiences Speed was another one. It was like I had just been to a packed heavy metal concert as I was soaked in sweat afterword. At the time for me it was the most intense action film I've seen, although a bit like LT it has dropped in my rankings. Dennis Hopper as any type of villain is money and he's on top of his game here. This goes on everyone's Mount Rushmore for sure.

Man I would love for The Proposal to be on there , and you could make the argument that he was more of the "star" of that movie than Speed but Speed is what started her career and got her everything going forward. Miss Congeniality has to be on there for being her first huge hit that she led too. Sucks that The Blindside has to be on there , personally I'd replace that with Proposal but since she won the Oscar for it you can't take it off. It was another important moment in her career. So yeah spot on with Speed , Miss Congeniality , Gravity and The Blindside. Daniels is tough , looking at his IMDB , I don't know that I could put Speed on there because he is like 5th billed , behind even Joe Morgan as Mac. Dumb and Dumber Arachnaphobia The Purple Rose of Cairo Looper or Good Night and Good Luck Haven't seen Gettysburg and don't know how successful it was. So speaking blindly there. Also shout out to Fly Away Home , great kids flick and in my daughters Top 5 movies. Anytime we see geese she STILL yells "AMY'S GEESE!" - so that movie had an effect on her.

Speed over John Wick? Woof. Love them both but I’ll go back to Speed way more. Two VERY different kinds of action movie. Jack Traven is the arch-typical every man action hero, while John Wick is the Grim Reaper in human form. Also John Wick takes you a very stylized underground world, while Speed is pretty much every day Los Angeles.

The only thing good about Speed is that it launched Sandra Bullocks career. It was a fine watch the first time, but if I never saw it again, I'd be okay. I can't believe it topped some of the films already mentioned. Certainly not better than John Wick, UT . :eyepop:
