One thing we can all agree on is that The Big Lebowski is better than The Departed. Chiselled in stone now. P Dub Certified. The former spawned festivals across the world and even a religion, while the latter got Scorsese his sympathy Oscar to make up for his superior films of the past not winning. No contest really. Nailed it.

Notice the name that's missing? ME. GOOD THING, TOO. Had I voted for it, this movie would've probably been top 5 and that's just fucking disgusting. Yes I notice it , I made the list? And you more than likely wouldn't have bumped it a couple spots.

Die Hard is great , probably the best action movie of all time and definitely one of the most influential. Iconic roles from Willis and Rickman as arguably the greatest hero/villain combo of all time. Even though With a Vengeance rated higher for me , I recognize the greatness of the original and love what it did for the genre.
Not a ton more to be said that I haven't already other than ... I HATE HATE HATE the Christmas debate shit , like it was fun for awhile but it almost feels now that one of the greatest action movies and greater movies in general is going to be remembered as that movie no one could agree on about Christmas as opposed to remembering it's greatness as a movie itself.

I don’t brush my teeth to it is a totally new phrase to me and I love it. I was thinking the exact same thing when I read it.
I forgot the man love you all have for Die Hard. I like it. It's fun. As an action film I have very little complaints about Die Hard. Personally I'd put True Lies above it, but I can see why it appeals to most of you.
I'd likely have put it on my list about 100-120, and I don't watch it at Christmastime. I'm such a bore.

I gave up commenting until the list was over because I can't keep up with everything. PB I had The Big Lebowski at #14. One of the most quotable, rewatchable, hilarious movies ever made. For reference, I had The Departed at #36 and Godfather II at #51

My most embarrassing confession: I’ve never seen Die Hard. I’ve seen DH:WaV 3-4 times and I think I’ve even seen part 2 before. But aside from a few minutes here and there in waiting rooms when it was on USA or clips on Facebook and such.. I’ve never seen the original. I don't think I've ever seen Die Hard from start to finish either, but I've watched it in pieces on TV enough that I've definitely seen the entire movie. The only one from the series I like is Die Hard With a Vengeance. Also I watched Live Free or Die Hard because I went and saw it in theatres, but I'll never watch it again. It was meh.

I agree that's it's the greatest action movie of all time and yet Lebowski tied it. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy Lebowski but I'm not nearly as obsessed as some fans. A few haven't seen the original and here I am having watched it twice the last two weeks. It was so influential subsequent action movies were "Die Hard on a...." for plot lines.

For me Die Hard is one of the two greatest action films of all-time, with the original Terminator being the other. Between the two Die Hard has the more universal appeal though. It was the film that pretty much established the everyman action hero, and to this day no one plays that kind of role better than Bruce Willis. Also has one of the most memorable villains of all-time in Hans Gruber, immaculately portrayed by Alan Rickman.
As far as Mt. Rushmore it hands down makes Bruce Willis's (Die Hard, Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Sixth Sense, and Pulp Fiction) and Alan Rickman's as well. (Die Hard, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)
Also a lock for John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Predator, Die Hard With a Vengeance and The Hunt for Red October)

Updated list The Big Lebowski (57) is fantastic. It is as if the characters have found themselves in the wrong film. As others have mentioned, Bridges, Goodman and Buscemi are incredible, arguably never better. PSH is tremendous in his small part. The Road House bad guy as Jackie Treehorn! Endlessly quotable and rewatchable. I'd watch Walter scatter Donny's ashes all over The Dude every day.
Die Hard (174) did not make my list. It is great. I saw it again last weekend at an independent cinema here. It is pretty much perfect for what it is. It is always brought up, but the bare feet is such a great example of top scriptwriting. You have this little quirky exchange at the start. Fine enough for what it is. Then McClane provides another fun moment by accepting that the guy was right about the bare feet on carpet thing. But it ultimately leads to the broken glass and his bare feet being a disadvantage. Some fun moments early end up playing a role. While pretty much perfect for what it is, it doesn't affect me or entertain me on the level of my top films.

So many of you are out of your element. This dude does not abide. The Big Lebowski is not overrated on PW. It is underrated. 3. The Big Lebowski- One of only 3 movies under serious consideration for my top spot. Unlike UT I was day one on The Big Lebowski. Thought it was brilliant at first watch and my opinion has not wavered during an admittedly unhealthy number of rewatches. The Big Lebowski is a strong contender for most rewatchable and most quotable movie of all time. Name a more iconic duo than Walter and The Dude. OK, maybe Wayne and Garth. But aside from that... I guess some people get hung up on the convoluted plot which kind of goes nowhere? If so, you're doing it all wrong. The admittedly awesome, albeit Rube Goldbergian plot isn't really the point. It's just the vehicle for following Walter and The Dude around as they interact with all these equally wild/insane/memorable characters. It's not just the Walter & Dude show either. Every single character and every single scene is memorable. I'm not even going to bother with favorite scenes because there are approximately 119 minutes worth of them. So let's do characters real quick- Donnie, Bunny, Brandt, The Big Lebowski, The Nihilists, The Stranger, Maude, The Jesus~! Heck, even the random oddballs who pop up in this film get more out of their minute or two of screen time than most featured characters in full length films do- Brother Shamus Guy, cab driving Eagles fan, Karl Hungus, Jackie Treehorn, Knox Carrington, etc. etc. It's just brilliant from start to finish. A true work of genius. And it actually gets even better on rewatches as you begin to pick up on things you missed earlier. =============== Forgot about Die Hard when I played the guessing game. Not surprising given that I've more or less forgotten the entire movie which I may or may not have watched once in full some 20+ years ago.
