It's all that tape cutting off the circulation. I always wondered if HHH's wrists were that weak he needed the structural support, or if he just thought it looked cool. Bet the dude used a whole roll per hand. It was also useful for the blade.

I think #1 is Lethal Weapon. But 2 & 3 are LT’s uncles or something. 48 Hours and Bad Boys.

I love that fucking guy. Just immediately 0 to 60 raging at The Dude. 48 Hrs is the one that I didn't know off the top of my head. Only seen it once, never seen the sequel. It doesn't feel like it ever made it that big over here, definitely didn't end up in the TV rotation, which may explain it.

Strobe , I had watched it recently otherwise I probably wouldn't have recognized it either off the top of my head. Shawshank as I've talked about in the past is a movie I put off far too long in watching. Probably because the title doesn't exactly jump out at you without context and mostly because I never believed it could live up to the hype. And I happily admitted I was wrong. Shawshank is beautiful and deserving of every bit of praise it gets. It's one of those movies that I think impossible not to move you in some way or another at multiple points. The writing of the characters are a huge reason why - our 'heroes' are easy to root for and the bad guys are even more easily easy to hate. Might sound simple but a lot of movies can get that wrong , not Shawshank though as it nailed it. The actors from Freeman and Robbins all the way to Warden and Stadler are all perfect in their roles. Even Robbins much to mosts surprise. And of course you can never go wrong with Freeman , especially as a voiceover on top of on the screen. I've already gone back to it a few times , its just a movie with a harrowing journey despite being confined within a prison. The ups and downs , the misery and triumphs capped off by the ultimate triumph makes it just a perfect movie to watch in any mood. Actually surprised it barely made the Top 10 , I thought it would be Top 5.

Also as much as I love The Dude and Walter ... they are not a better duo than Red and Andy. No chance.

1. I grind up my Adderall in my applesauce , so that's not as far off as you think.
2. Comedy only? I didn't realize that.
Also if we are talking more iconic , even within comedy:Woody and Buzz , Harry and Lloyd , Doc and Marty , Dale and Brennan.

Shawshank was my #5. To finish at the 10 spot is very respectable, but I thought it would be higher.

Shawshank is a movie most deserving to be in any Top 10. Beautifully done and well worth the watch. Amazing performances by both Robbins and Freeman.
I did not put it on my list, because it’s not one I would list as a ‘favourite’. As amazing as it was to see originally, it’s not one I revisit. When I’m sitting at home I don’t say ‘I’m going to throw on Shawshank’. If it’s on TV I MIGHT watch a few minutes, but that’s as far as it goes.

Pretty much my sentiments, I think I've only seen it twice. I guessed it would've have placed 11, no qualms here.

Weird because I think it’s one of the more rewatchable movies. Yes there are some dark moments but overall there’s so many great and memorable scenes with such an uplifting and earned journey.

I forgot Shawnshank, it would’ve slotted in somewhere just outside my top 25. A very enjoyable movie. I’ve only watched the full movie once, but because of the way it tells its story with several short stories about Andy’s time at Shawshank make it an easy movie to sit down, see Andy negotiating for beers for the boys, and watch it play out without having to wait for the end of the movie.

That scene and the one with the record player over the PA both keep the movie going with little wins.

As my wife could tell you, you will not find a bigger fan of The Shawshank Redemption than me. I've lost count of how many times I've seen this film and my wife swears I watched it twice back to back before, (I do not recall this though) I absolutely adore this movie and will watch it whenever it comes on. I can quote just about every scene that comes up. There are just so many great moments in this film it's hard to single out a favorite. The film pushes every emotional button possible, from, joy, to pain, to despair and finally to hope. If I had to pick out some of my favorite scenes these would stand out.
Stephen King didn't put this in the original story, but after watching this he said he WISHED he had.
Then you have this gem.
For harrowing it dosen't get much worse than this....
This all builds to an absolutely glorious climax, one of the greatest endings of any film ever. I dare say it is THE greatest ending to any film ever. Overall Shawshank is one of those few absolutely perfect movies I've ever seen.

For Mt. Rushmore, It easily makes Morgan Freeman's (Lean on Me, Glory, Shawshank Redemption, and Seven, though this is really flexible) and Tim Robbins (Bull Durham, Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River, and Human Nature) Clancy Brown as well (Highlander, Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, and as much I hate it, Spongebob Squarepants the Movie) It would make Frank Darabont's as well, but he's only directed like four feature films.

They have the same director and they are both adaptations of Steven King works. Both also take place in a State Prison in the first half of the 20th century. Shawshank takes place in Maine though, while The Green Mile takes place in Louisiana. The plot for both movies couldn't be more different though.

2. The Godfather Part II (1974, Francis Ford Coppola) 3. It's a Wonderful Life (1946, Frank Capra) 4. Singin' in the Rain (1952, Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly) 5. The Tree of Life (2011, Terrence Malik) 6. The Apartment (1960, Billy Wilder) 8. The Godfather (1972, Francis Ford Coppola) 9. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004, Michel Gondry) 10. Jaws (1975, Steven Spielberg) 11. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003, Peter Jackson) 12. Citizen Kane (1941, Orson Welles) 13. Inside Out (2015, Pete Docter) 15. Blade Runner (1982, Ridley Scott) 18. Die Hard (1988, John McTiernan)
First off, totally agree with UT, that I’m totally bored of the Christmas movie narrative and feel like is detracts from how great this film is. To me, it’s the perfect action film. It has enough heart and relatability that you are invested in the main romantic relationship. It’s a really simple and tight premise that’s easy to follow and get hooked in. Obviously GOAT villain in Hans Gruber. All of the small characters feel like fully formed people and not caricatures so the buy into the world of the movie. Great action, fun dialogue, and then a really fantastic performance from Willis that, IMO, sets this one apart as a masterpiece compared to the sequels. As soon as we have sequels they become fun but self-aware and a little pandering, whereas here John McClaine is vulnerable, honest, flawed, but ultimately the sort of guy you really want to root for. I really love Die Hard and am glad it finished well here. 19. The Night of the Hunter (1955, Charles Laughton) 21. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982, Steven Spielberg) 22. Rear Window (1954, Alfred Hitchcock) 23. Psycho (1960, Alfred Hitchcock) 27. Three Colours: Blue (1993, Krzysztof Kieslowski) 29. Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe and Anthony Russo) 30. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001, Peter Jackson) 31. Batman Begins (2005, Christopher Nolan) 32. Seven (1995, David Fincher) 34. Reservoir Dogs (1992, Quentin Tarantino) 35. 12 Angry Men (1957, Sidney Lumet) 36. Taxi Driver (1976, Martin Scorsese) 39. Toy Story 3 (2010, Lee Unkrich) 41. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002, Peter Jackson) 43. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939, Frank Capra) 50. In Bruges (2008, Martin McDonagh) 55. Chinatown (Roman Polanski, 1974) 56. Memento (2000, Christopher Nolan) 59. Raging Bull (Martin Scorcese, 1980) 60. City of God (2002, Fernando Meirelles) 62. The Departed (2006, Martin Scorcese) 68. Zodiac (2007, David Fincher) 69. Beauty and the Best (1991, Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise) 76. Groundhog Day (1993, Harold Ramis) 78. The Truman Show (1998, Peter Weir) 82. Avengers: Infinity War (2018, Joe & Anthony Russo) 88. Fight Club (1999, David Fincher) 89. No Country for Old Men (2007, Joel & Ethan Coen) 91. Adaptation (2002, Spike Jonze) 95. The Big Lebowski (1998, Joel [& Ethan] Coen) 97. The Social Network (2010, David Fincher) 100. Skyfall (2012, Sam Mendes Shawshank didn’t make my list as I just don’t love it the way most people do, but it is very very good and the scene with the opera music over the intercom is a real favourite.

2. The Shawshank Redemption- Considered it for the top spot. Also guessed it would be PW's #1. Surprised and disappointed it "only" finished #10. UT and thereallt nailed it. Shawshank has strong faces and heels, many memorable scenes, runs the full gamut of emotions, and has an all time great climax. A true masterpiece with an off putting name that has been #1 or #2 on IMDB for as long as I can remember. Unlike iron maiden I think Shawshank is very rewatchable. I never tire of spending time with Andy & Red. Still not putting them over Walter and The Dude though.

Yeah, Shawshank (59) is incredibly rewatchable, when it isn't the type of movie you'd think would fit into that category. It used to always be on TV over here. I've seen it all the way through probably a dozen times and individual scenes when flicking through channels many more. In covering its greatness, no one has yet mentioned the gorgeous score.
While it is not near the top of my list, it is a film that I can absolutely see why it is #1 on IMDb. It feels near flawless, it feels near universal. If there was a film to recommend to anyone at random, someone you know nothing about, this feels like it could be the one.

I have nothing further to add.
