I wish I had his confidence. I've posted some questionable things on this site, but even I couldn't post a video on the internet dot com doing barefooted pump kicks in an AEW shirt. Sorry Tate, I have a new idol.

AEW is in fine shape with smarks like this that they have attracted since its arrival: I'm no doctor but this guy might be mentally ill.

Not a major issue at all, but announcing a time limit for every match is just stupid. Some weeks Dark has 10+ matches in an hour. None of those matches are going to go anywhere near the 20 minute time limit. They wouldn't be able to fit all the matches in! The main event on Dynamite was announced as having a 60 minute time limit but there was only 20 minutes of the show left. Are we expected to believe the TV station will just allow the show to overrun by up to 40 minutes? Or is the world title match going to end off-air? It's silly! Have a time limit as a stipulation for particular matches if you want, but QT Marshall vs some local random isn't going to go the distance! The time limit was pushed very strongly by Jim Ross as soon as he was brought onboard as one of the most important things for a wrestling show to have. He talked about it in length at the time. His reasoning was that it makes no sense that the wrestlers would just be allowed to keep going forever, specifically because there would obviously not be enough time on the show to accommodate any potential match length of every match. I kind of agree with this. That said, announcing a 40 minute time limit when there is 20 minutes left of the show sounds pretty stupid and like a failure to follow the point of the time limit in the first place.
AEW has announced in the past for such main events that if it hits TV time, they will continue the match off the air and show it later or post it online. That doesn't really make sense for them to do though since obviously the show should contain the entirety of the main event. Why would they plan for it to have a 40 minute time limit and only allot 20 to it?
(Late to the party here, but)
Time limits also work great into the story of the match. Champion's advantage "I don't have to beat him; he has to beat me" really only makes sense in the context of a draw after 30 minutes. If both of you are wrestling forever, then the champ eventually will have to win to keep the belt.
Heel tactics of stalling by rolling out of the ring and avoiding the face become much more urgent when there's only ten minutes allotted for the match.
It helps protect a younger wrestler in a loss, when they get close to the time limit and start making panicked mistakes because the pressure to close out the match is on (but they'll learn from it!)

Like anything, it's only as good as the worker. Someone like Eddie Guerrero would do wonders with the urgency around something like a 10 minute time draw. As a heel champion, he'd be ducking and weaving and stalling as much as possible, as Michinokudriver said, Eddie would be rolling in and out of the ring, threatening to walk, etc. As a babyface challenger, he'd be on fire keeping on top of his opponent. And now for the AEW-pisstake, half that roster can't even remember to sell their opponent's offense, let alone work psychology like that into a match.

Look no further than the IWGP WORLD TV CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT in which all matches are free on NJPW world and have a 15 minute time limit and all kicked ass due to this urgency explosion from the vast roster of talented wrestlers!

I appreciate the idea, the Bryan time limit draw matches were fantastic in a vaccum. But this is typical trying to apply logic to an illogical situation and some other thinking, the idea the heel champion is going to try and run the clock down, then exposes the question why he doesn't just nut shot his opponent and get DQ'd to keep the title. Yeah the authority figure will likely just impose a rematch where the title can change hands on a DQ, but that's the same for a time limit draw, "oh this couldnt be settled in 60 minutes tonight, let's have a rematch". I feel this is more of the logic to an illogical situation remark but it also exposes heels work styles, if you were to really try and run the clock down you'd spend large chunks of the opening trying to put distance to your opponent, until an advantage presents itself, then start putting holds on. It's too shooter for todays wrestling world and not entertaining, especially when you've just presented a show that has 3 dives a match and 14 no sells before you get to that match.

Time limit draws work better when the show is on tape delay, on ppvs, or non televised. Since you know they can fit the match in the slot allowed on tape delay. And for ppvs and non televised it shouldn't matter. For live tv it doesn't make much since because you know they need to wrap it up at a certain time unless you really do have a deal like Raw use to have. When Raw would just go off whenever it felt like it.

It's too shooter for todays wrestling world and not entertaining, especially when you've just presented a show that has 3 dives a match and 14 no sells before you get to that match. Depends how chickenshit your heel is. A dick kick is blatantly, unquestionably illegal while stalling is allowed by the letter (if not spirit) of the rules so it's not actually cheating. If the doofus face can't read the rulebook and figure out how to make it work for them then it's kinda on them.
FWIW 'run out the clock' is also a valid, frequently used tactic in real sports so it shouldn't take too long for fans to get used to it.

A paranoid Tony Khan appeared on The Dan Le Batard Show. " I think we truly, truly hate each other... they're out there to get me, I know they're out there to hurt AEW's relationships with our business partners, if that's the case, allegedly, and it made me want to work that much harder to make AEW stronger and then that ended up being probably the biggest year for growth we've probably ever had." Tony then stomped his foot, and added the following: He's! Not! Gunna! Take! This! Shit!

Yeah reports are more people were asked to break their contracts than Tony first knew about. He is not taking it well. As a fan of the business, he certainly seems to have no knowledge of how nasty the Monday Night Wars were. Or what it is like to go up against Vince.
Think this is bad, wait for the contracts to be up and WWE raiding all of his top guys. Now doubt WWE will do what they can to get people Tony feels he made like MJF and Britt and outbid Tony if they have to. Both likely will be offered Rumble wins and WM main events. How does Tony match that?
Think it is sometime in 2024 like dozens of contracts are up at once.

Tony by all reports, and basing my understanding of his finances on your account of it c, he can outbid WWE to some degree. Does he end up paying big money to keep talent that may or may not be worth it? Sure. But what he can't offer is those big moments, ie; Rumble, Wrestlemania, MITB, etc and he can't offer being part of the WWE experience - it must be insane being on the endless world tour and being treated like a rockstar everywhere you go. I think the natural progression for a lot of AEW's older talent will be working behind the scenes, and if AEW doesn't run a big office nor, a deep roster of personnel, we may see the Coles, O'Reillys, Joes, etc working for Hunter or Shawn in NXT eventually.

AEW guys get the upside of not being waiting for at airports by neckbeards demanding you sign all of their ebay merch <.<
The signing math gets interesting as sure he can beat WWE for say MJF, but what do you do when Dragon's contract is up and suddenly he is not getting paid anywhere near what MJF is? And while Tony can hide what people are making, WWE will be glad to tell them what offers were accepted or turned down.
Also, Tony can retain talent or make a WWE bid, not both. Unless he goes REAL wide with house shows which is a logistic nightmare.

May be more to this story than it seems. Dax just posted then deleted a picture with document from WWE sneaking into cam. I think it's likely unspoken, but common knowledge that FTR are returning to WWE eventually. There's always been a slight disconnect with the AEW locker-room. With FTR being CM Punk's boys, and how piss poor they've been booked. High profile relationships with WWE talent, Edge has referenced them on air, Cash worked with Edge prior to his return, Orton loves them. Hunter obviously loves them.

I wouldn't be so sure nath.
Dax has been playing both sides on his podcast and dropping hints that he's going to sign with AEW & WWE. He's also made a point about business and how he has to choose his words carefully because bottom line he just wants fans to be interested in his matches. So he doesn't want to reveal too much behind the curtain and maintain a level of mystique.
So after the Gunn Boys teased an FTR return on Twitter, this was his way of creating some doubt.

Going to guess FTR will probably leave. And Britt won't leave when her contract is up because she probably can't run a practice on the WWE schedule.
