AEW just announced three games and t-shirt. One console game is developed by Yukes and a developer from No Mercy. Two mobile games: One being a GM mode which has been requested for years from WWE games. The second one is weird but looks like a gambling game. And it is AEW so of course they have to have a shirt involved in everything they do.
The first two though if done right will force WWE to step of their game.

Not just a developer, but the actual director of No Mercy.
What I take out of the clip is that the aesthetic seems like an approximation of what the AKI style would look like. Very detailed action figure esque models, not too dissimilar from WWE Battlegrounds.
The only thing I take out of the gameplay is that you can have intergender matches.
What I'm hoping for:
CAW Mode - I want a Fire Pro Wrestling World style system where you have a ridiculous amount of slots and variety to make as many promotions and wrestlers you want. I want the No Mercy style system where you can edit your select screen and place wrestlers on certain tiers. I'd also love the option to edit current wrestlers to either replace them or update them.
Gameplay - Give me Def Jam Vendetta with a few less bells and whistles. I don't want it to be too styalised with points flashing past or super slow-mo effects, just make it as close to a No Mercy/Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 game as possible.
Season - Just give me the HCTP style season mode. You play through a year, you get to make choices about which belt to challenge for. You build up your credibility and work your way up from working the Dark Order to Jon Moxley.
Roster - It depends on the release schedule, I think you'd want to be ahead of WWE 2K22, so I'd cut off from Revolution and throw any major stars that sign in afterwards as a DLC Pack a few months after release. That would allow the game to come out around July/August which seems like a good spot for a franchise like this. I'd aim to have the entire roster with a few Dark wrestlers and legends thrown in.

Intergender matches are cool because it was annoying in 2k20 were I would have to search matches using male or female character because the online was dead by that point and sometimes you couldn't find matches as one and had to switch to the other one.
For a create mode I need an image uploader or the ability to upload pictures from your system. Image uploader was such a game changer in creating CAWs.
And I want there to be atleast 5 people in Cody's entrances. And I think 5 is setting the bar low.

Interesting presentation, I surprisingly got a few laughs out of it.
Honestly, I'm pretty intrigued by this news, I doubt I'll ever play the AEW mobile games, but man I really hope the console game delivers.

Yes but unlike that PWG nonsense it was Shida's actual Falcon Arrow.
Apparently instead of getting indie wrestlers to mo-cap, they're going old school and doing the animations by hand using real footage as a guide.
I'm just happy Shida is confirmed in, I want a stacked roster, but as long as Shida's in and can whip everyone on the roster I'm golden.

This opens the door for some interesting hidden characters/DLC as well. AEW has a close partnership with NWA and Impact, and could build on that. Imagine being challenged in career mode by Nick Aldis or The Good Brothers or something.

If there's one thing that can get me into AEW, it'll be an official No Mercy mod. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

It's only 14 seconds of gameplay footage, but they have the No Mercy style camera and it looks like it has the same weight as a AKI style game.
The crowd appears like they've had too much kool-aid and they're overly sedated. The bump the green man takes on the apron skips a few frames but otherwise it's looking good.

Showing game play footage before the game comes out what are they new to making games. You are suppose to hide your gameplay to almost the very end.
This is one of the moves I applaud AEW for. The Wrestling Code has been in development much longer and having seen anything game play wise. WWE 2K series haven't showed off much either. I know they usually don't but after the train wreak of 2K20 and their extra year. They should be ready to show something amazing.

I'm hoping that this will be a good game, main reason I still play WWE 2K19, is because of the universe modes I have going on, one of them being an AEW fed, so it would be nice to have an official game from them.

I didn't even realize that game footage had been released a couple months ago. The camera angles and what little I can deduce visually from the physics are giving me strong HCTP/SYM vibes. Gotta admit I'm pretty excited for this now, the character model for Omega they released before looked goofy as hell and I assumed the worst.

News broke tonight that the upcoming AEW video game will be called “Fight Forever.” After Dynamite tonight Tony Khan asked the crowd to record some chants for the game audio. Fans in attendance were told the name of the game.
Personally I love it. I think that’s a great name for a wrestling game.
Are you looking forward to this game as much as I am? I think they’re really trying to capture that essence that games like No Mercy and Here Comes The Pain gave us. I hope I’m right.

Have anymore details about the game come out yet? Last I heard they weren't planning on making this an annual release and instead were just going to add DLC/patches to update the game which seemed like a consumer friendly choice. However has there been anymore talk about a reveal or more gameplay? I just hope it doesn't turn out like TNA Impact which made similar claims about bringing the AKI formula back but was apparently really bare bones. I never actually played it X-zero was the game any good?

What gets VERY interesting is there is no reason that Tony could not say include unlockable characters like Tyler Black, Kevin Steen, El Generico and even AJ Styles, Mick Foley and Ric Flair if they associate them with RoH. Likely they will use Eddie Guerrero and Dusty Rhodes. Really hoping there is a career mode as even their own wrestlers really want that. Then again I assume they plan to release a game their guys will be playing on twitch. Big thing to look for is PC release. PC release means the code will be expansive to do a ton of creative shit. Create a wrestler goes nuts when you have PC release.

Create a wrestler goes nuts when you have PC release. Of the names you listed only Foley and Flair would be useable and I can't see them using Flair after everything that happened. They won't be able to use AJ Styles because he owns his trademark. And I'd be floored if they used ROH versions of guys that are currently in WWE. That's asking for a lawsuit. There's gotta be some fine print about "likeness" or something in their contracts. We already know Owen Hart will be a playable character so that's cool. Maybe Bret grants FTR's wishes and becomes #AllElite and gets added to the game. Not having a yearly release and instead offering patches/DLC is the way to go for sports games and I really hope this game is a trendsetter in that regard. There's a lot to be learned from WWE 2k22 and NHL, FIFA, etc would benefit way more from just releasing a base game every 3-5 years and updating rosters with patches/DLC in between. I would bet dropping DLC every quarter would earn them way more money than just waiting a year then releasing the same game all over again.

AEW can claim the likenesses are merely taken from the video library they do own and in no way reflect the likeness of current WWE superstars. So long as they do not age the wrestlers, Tyler Black is a legally distinct persona than Seth Rollins.
And frankly WWE does not have the power to enforce their ownership of likeness at all. No court will uphold their claim that they and not person themselves own the likeness of the person.
And WWE has no contracts with AEW about what they can and cannot use. They can try to take things from the workers themselves, but they cannot retrospectively gains rights to their past work without having the library which contains the rights.
They tried this with the legends of wrestling games and were shot down hard.

For an example of why they can use older stars, look at the recent WWE game. It released with over a dozen guys that work for AEW or Impact in it but WWE claims they can continue to use them, because they are using them as they were. Jake Roberts has been AEW for years and WWE still tossed him in the game.

I never actually played it X-zero was the game any good? It can't be as bad as TNA Impact. No the specialty matches that were unique to TNA were horrible. They left after some of the signatures like King of the Mountain but that could be that people who work at TNA weren't 100% on the rules either. No knockouts at all. It the gameplay felt like bad and it played like a old Mortal Kombat game. Where Jeff Jarrett had Shao Kahn levels of BS. 4 strikes then The Stroke and you are done.
The interview for the game "Does it include x?" . We wanted to add X but we plan on adding that in TNA Impact 2. Yeah Impact 2 sounded good too bad 1 was so bad no one would green light 2.

Jake Roberts has been AEW for years and WWE still tossed him in the game. It is because they said they could use their likeness while the still work there. Or if you signed some deal were your likeness could be used in the video game. WWE can't say oh we still love the Shield lets add Dean Ambrose in WWE 2K23. We have video of him working in the company. Moxley and AEW both could sue. Now if both those said it was fine they could do it. But just because you have video of someone working for you in the past doesn't mean you can make money off them on a different media outlet.

I am pretty sure the WWE contracts state that they can your likeness as it was while you worked for them for their products in the future. So they could use Dean Ambrose as he appeared in WWE, but not Moxley. Part of the reason WWE rebrands everyone too, is so they can continue to use them as now they are a creation of WWE. Very weird legal area though that WWE settles with out of court. I know Raven and WWE got in tiffs over this.

I assume he will be removed. While the RoH guys would be a fun thing to try, AJ Styles or Cody will be instant lawsuit I assume. And Vince likely has the better legal team given he has been doing this forever. But Cody I assume will request personally to be removed as a favor to WWE, which will make using him impossible from a legal standpoint.
Two companies will have to figure out a closed door policy soon for when people can and cannot be in games, or the courts will decide for them in the near future as people will be jumping both ways regularly in the near future.
