Canucks return tonight to face the Leafs in a game that was supposed to happen last night.
Expect a team recovering from COVID to absolutely destroy Toronto. If you have any savings at all, bet the over on Vancouver.

Amazing job by the Canucks to at least salvage a point.

Amazing job by the Canucks to at least salvage a point. Amazing job by *Braden Holtby. Called it. I'm always right, unfortunately. Can't see how this team doesn't exit the playoffs early again. All the skill in the world but they just don't have the mental fortitude to win tough games.

I'm perfectly ok with playing the Devils for the rest of the season. I'm really surprised they managed to pull off the four game sweep. Devils are pretty bad but I expected at least one game where the Rangers didn't show up. Unfortunately Boston seem to have recovered so no real ground was made - it might actually be the Islanders that we are the most likely to overtake now?

Fantastic intensity in this Rangers/Islanders game - Isles really ramped up the pressure in the last five minutes of the first period and got the breakthrough, and could have easily had another one. Rangers have been a bit sloppy handling the puck, and the defenders in particular seem to be struggling with the step up in competition after facing the Devils so many times.

Ooof - talk about the playoff door getting slammed in your face. Trouba going down was a big loss, really exposed Bitetto (and I'm not really sure why he came back into the lineup at this crucial point of the season) but they were clearly second best tonight. Offence got totally shut down by a good defensive team, top 6 were completely anonymous.

I think the East division is set in stone now, unfortunately for you guys. 6 points back at this stage is almost impossible to overcome. ... Leafs are losing their second game in a row to Vancouver on two games that should have been gimmes. I'm at the point now where I'll be surprised if they even hold on to 1st place in the North. These guys just don't want it.

These guys just don't want it. It was really the slow start that's cost them - Zibanejad taking 10 weeks to get going and Panarin missing a month - plus there's some sort of consolation in the idea that they would have made the playoffs in any other division. Tonight was a real downer but they have been one of the most in form teams in the league over the past 15-20 games. Hopefully they can add another quality piece in the offseason (whether that be Eichel or someone else) and take another step forward with the kids having another year of experience under their belts. I know you're not feeling optimistic but hopefully Toronto can get things together so we can have some PW skin in the game!

Fuck! These kind of losses can implode a season. 1) Hyman is out. 2) Power play is dogshit. 3) Goaltending is a revolving door of agony. 4) $40 million worth of forwards can't bail them out of games. 5) Keith Olbermann was right. 6) I am going to get sooooooo drunk during the playoffs.

Georgiev had a bit of a dip in the middle of the season but he was absolutely fantastic tonight. 4-1 was a flattering score largely because of his work in the third period. Lafreniere replacing Kreider on the top line the last two games has been positive for him.
Boston lost to Buffalo so the Rangers finally got a result to go their way.

Mika third hatty of the season, Fox three apples to go tied for fifth in the league, Kakko two goals, Zac Jones first point - tonight was a good night.

The west division is hilarious. Vegas, Colorado and MINNESOTA (of all teams) have all clinched playoff spots because they're so far ahead of everyone else. The battle for the last spot is between Arizona (yes, seriously) and St Louis. San Jose could make it but probably not. They'd have to win every game left.
Nobody else has clinched yet. Kinda surprised the Leafs haven't considering they are 16 points ahead of Montreal who are in 4th currently. I guess because the Canucks have so many games remaining they can't technically call it yet.

I'm settling in for a big hockey day because it looks like it's going to be pretty quiet here at work. My fantasy team is in the semis starting today so I'll be watching a few of my guys. Carolina are looking to join RT's list of teams that have clinched but they're trailing Dallas by two after the first period. After that I think I'll watch Edmonton and Winnipeg. Now if only I could swap these coffees for beer...

Canes clinch playoffs with the game going to OT, but they lose despite having the puck for virtually the first 2:30 of overtime - for some reason became completely allergic to shooting. Nashville beat Florida so still tight for the final spot in the Central.
Meanwhile Edmonton are completely rinsing Winnipeg. McDavid has a hattrick plus an assist, he's up to 81 points on the season and seems likely to hit 100 which is pretty insane.

I read some ridiculous stat the other day and while I can't find the exact numbers, it was basically this: At 5 on 5, the Oilers are +80something in goals for when McDavid is on the ice and -180something when he isn't. To be putting up these kind of numbers in today's league is astounding. Nobody has done this since Gretzky and Lemieux and they played before goalies existed.

got totally shut down by a good defensive team, top 6 were completely anonymous. At least we know for sure that this game wasn’t an outlier and the Islanders really do know how to swat us away like an annoying fly. 😔

Jets bad. 7 loses in a row. Foos sad.
Going to rob Ontario and Quebec out of their desired Toronto/Montreal first round matchup.
Sorry.

So glad the Rangers got rid of Lemieux. I knew this shit was going to happen. Just like Gaborik/Carcillo years ago, now Panarin gets involved with Wilson. Buchnevich is too busy in the penalty box chirping. They are too good to be involved in this crap. Last thing this team needs is a serious injury for nothing. The Rangers are lucky Panarin and Buchnevich did not get seriously injured. I'm glad that the Rangers stand up for each other, but let's be honest Buchnevich, Panarin, Strome these guys are not fighters and were thrown around like rag dolls. Hopefully they get someone next season to protect their guys. The opponent knows that it is one weakness of the Rangers.
Rangers are eliminated from the playoffs. Not surprised. Their defensive coverage has been awful. They seem to not have any jump in their game at times as if they don't want to be there. Quinn needs to go. I seriously think the players are tired of him.

It seems pretty obvious the issue isn't to do with the Rangers not having enough tough guys - it's that Tom Wilson is a fucking animal. That's not tough, physical play, it's just straight up dirty. He pulled Panarin's hair for goodness sake, it's embarrassing.
He's a cheap shot scumbag with a terrible track record and clearly won't change - they should suspend him for at least a season like Vally said on the postgame, if not longer.

Wilson knows he can get away with it. Anyone else who wants to go after the Rangers too can get away with it maybe not so much a dirty play, but a body check or something like Matt Martin's elbow on Zibanejad. Not dirty, but zero response from the Rangers just poor me let's yell at the referee. That is one if the problem's for the Rangers. They can't have their top guys do this again next time.
Panarin cannot be the one who has to answer to Wilson. That is unacceptable.
