Following NXT spoilers tonight it strikes me that while NXT has large women's roster, the talent that is put in televised matches still seems a little small leading to lots of repeated matches.  Would It kill them to use Reina, Jessie, or Xia as jobbers?

They should do another season of Breaking Ground with the current crop at the PC.

Breaking Ground was so damn good. I am all for more of it.

Hiroyo Matsumoto said she has her eyes set on NXT. Wonder if it was just bravado or if it actually means anything.

Awesome news! I find Green super enjoyable no matter what character she happens to be.

Word came down that NXT UK will be launching this coming Wednesday. I wonder if two weeks is enough time to have this UK Women's Title tournament, so the finals would take place at Evolution?

They already crowned the champion. If we’re lucky, we’ll get a title defense at the PPV.

Mia isn't the smoothest wrestler, is she? Don't get me wrong she's far from bad, but she seems a little clunky in there. She never really grew out of that trait.

Aliyah outshined Mia imo. There's a lot to be said about how long she's been in NXT but I think now, she's ripe for picking.

I'm gonna need a diva fairy to gif Aliyah's reaction to Mia's entrance because that was my reaction to that result.

Is Mercedes in NXT now? or was that just a one time deal against nikki?

She made a couple of NXT appearances around the MYC last year as well so I assume this is something similar.

I assume Mercedes has a deal to work if she is in the area when NXT is doing shows. Curious why she did not sign

Chelsea was a great pick up for WWE.  Missed she was signed.

Good match between Dakota and Taynara this episode. Probably Taynara’s most impressive yet. Besides the one that Killer Kelly took, Dakota’s finisher has been really fun to watch this year.

We also got a short promo from Mia Yim and it looks like her next feud will be with Bianca Bel Air. I love Bianca’s reaction to Mia’s overdoing of her face spiel because I really think Mia needs an opportunity to put an edge to her character. I’m tired of the over-positive indie darlings.

She's supposed to be a black belt in judo but barely does any judo moves, she's Brazilian but comes to the ring to UK grime, and she has a mean streak™ but is also a bit bipolar?

I think Kairi vs. Shayna at WarGames will be the last nail in this feud.  I think whoever loses will get the next call-up.

Doesn't look like either will be going up immediately - got the feeling that the feud will be continuing a little longer albeit with the new additions. I'm pleased they're not fucking around and getting Io involved straight away and not in some stupid racist feud with Lacey Evans or something, and also happy that Dakota is back involved after her earlier problems with Shayna.

One person who probably doesn't benefit from all of this is Bianca. She looked set to be Kairi's feud, but instead now seemingly has to wait in the wings for a while longer.

Apparently Kairi's caught Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease which almost certainly means she won't be involved at the tapings this week. Hopefully she recovers soon!

Thankfully, they can always write her off for the time being as taking time to reflect and train on how to come back against Shayna. This is the perfect opportunity to build another strong face to potentially challenge Shayna in NXT, really. Aside from Kairi, who else is there outside of Dakota that's kinda established? Nikki Cross and Candice LeRae are currently toeing the line with their alignments. Mia Yim just came off a loss to Bianca. Even Dakota hasn't really shown much against Shayna herself. Remember she attacked Marina and Jessamyn, but hasn't actually gone after Shayna yet. Io is new, but the good thing about her is she can slide right into the title picture quite easily.

They really need this taping to build Dakota and Io up, coming from the recent Takeover, really.

I wasn't keen on Mia beating Aliyah a few weeks ago and I'm even more salty that she beat Vanessa. I know Mia is popular but I just don't see her as the type of talent that should go straight to the top of the pile. I've never been a big fan of hers and so far nothing she's done in WWE has changed that. She's fine in the ring, but nothing more, and really lacks the athleticism and speed that makes some of the other girls more exciting to watch.

Vanessa is someone who feels like she deserves more at this stage. She's charismatic and I thought this video that she put up on her Twitter a while ago shows that she's creative and cares about her character:

I'll be honest.  I see Vanessa as more of a established jobber.  It's not like Mia went over Lacey Evans, Dakota Kai, or Bianca Belair.

They’re really not doing anything to legitimize Vanessa. Pretty soon she’ll end up like Aliyah. Aimless and stuck in NXT for three years+. She’d be great in a Zelina/Candice/Nikki type of manager role that wrestles more than the traditional valet.

These Mia matches are weird. She’s beat down for 90% of the match then sneaks in a few moves for an easy win. Not buying it! It’s a major disservice to the girls she beats and doesn’t even make her look that great.

I see Mia yim and think, holy smokes she should have been called up to the main roster yesterday. I see her and think she just oozes charisma.


Vanessa is ok, personality wise she seems ready. But in ring wise she doesn't seem ready for anything other than jobbers status.

I never got Mia Yim either. She didn't stand out to me in the MYC and she doesn't stand out to me on NXT. A good hand, nothing more. I like Vanessa Borne. She's green but she has an attitude and seems to know her character well.

Really good match this week between Shayna and Dakota. I love that this has been a low key, long term feud that has developed over time - Dakota gradually becoming more and more competitive against Baszler. Really great booking. Really snug and crisp wrestling between the two.

It's early but I think Marina looks a lot more comfortable out there than Jessamyn who seems pretty awkward.

^ I agree with the Marina and Jessamyn observation. It does appear that Jessamyn currently has a bit more capability in terms of getting physical, but character-wise, Marina seems like the sleaziness of Roddy in the Undisputed Era has been rubbing off on her.

Really good match with Dakota and Shayna, too. Dakota continues to be an underrated fave of mine in NXT. Looking forward to seeing who and how the others who qualify with Bianca are for the title shot 4-way.

Also, I hope Io keeps her very clappable theme song from the MYC. Her entrance theme during Evolution was very very MEH.

The new year is looking really good. I love the addition of Io, Jessamyn and Marina to the roster. Deonna, Reina and Chelsea are ready for tv too. Maybe even Xia Li and Kacy, who I guess is dating Ricochet now. I can't remember exactly but I think he came out for Kacy's match during the MYC and I thought that was a little weird.
