It's garbage, but slowly but surely death match style wrestling is making a grass roots come back. I've been following a page called DEATHMATCH ELITE on Facebook for a few months in a bid to find something left in wrestling that is still mildly entertaining. There's a lot brewing in this realm, and an entire sub-culture that it feels absolutely no-one is talking about here. 

So, Moxley is playing again, Gage has just got a slither of mainstream exposure and good lord almighty, Zack Ryder just became the biggest heel in GCW - see the clip above. 

The fun thing about this is, Ryder's a legit ripped 225lbs, looks like an absolute stud and would likely look like a monster next to some of these death match guys, that, and I'm sensing a Tommy Dreamer moment in the making when he wins over the GCW crowd or at the very least, Gage puts over Ryder in the same vain Foley put over Hunter. For me so far, this is the most WTF/Coolest thing I've seen in 2021.

Thing with Ryder, this may not be a one off. He is from the area GCW runs in and his whole Long Island gimmick would sell in Jersey. Chelsea Green got cut from WWE so he could very well make GCW his home and go all in with them. Impact and AEW is not really working out for him, but in GCW, he can be the guy you build around. Likely could get Chelsea booked as well as there is a lot of great women's talent in the region with several schools within 90 minutes of Jersey.

I think this is the second most interested I've been in Zack Ryder since he first debuted Z True Story.

If Zack Ryder is the guy valiantly crusading against the death match muppets by...beating them up in death matches, I guess I can maybe get behind that. In any case that was an awesome debut.

He is appearing everywhere these day but you could argue that he going the wrong way in his career. He started out in the biggest company, went to the second biggest company, then went to Impact third? biggest. Well either way lower then AEW these days. Now he is some rebrand most people haven't even heard of.

I'm glad I saw that clip last night somewhere else because the title spoils the reveal. What a dumb move putting his name there.

I loved when he held up the belt and just yelled "FUCK YOU" :lol:

Hahaha I just realized those dumb smarks didn't even chant the right name. He should use that in his next promo.

I really hope he does Kaufman's Man from Hollywood shit and it is the exact opposite of what GCW stands for.

I have never cared about Zack Ryder, think Nick Gage is TRASH, and barely know what a Game Changer Wrestling is, but anybody doing an Andy Kaufman/Lawler in ECW gimmick has my attention.

Given how injury prone Chelsea Green is, having her participate in possible intergender wrestling which is what GCW does seems like a recipe for disaster. If Impact(Where her bestie Deonna runs things) or AEW(Where her other bestie Baker runs things) gives her an offer, she takes it. 

I don't buy Cardona as a heel but he has WWE shill written all over him so in this regard, it works here. I mean he collects Toy Action Figures for some of his revenue with Brian Myers, they have their own show talking about wrestling action figures for goodness sakes. And your tossing that against someone who served 7 years in jail in Nick Gage :rofl: :laughy:

Ryder's got to prove himself, Gage is defending GCW. The crowd will eat Ryder alive similarly or potentially worse than Cena at ONS. Geez, I'd actually be concerned for his safety to be honest.

I think it's a smart move, it's also brave. He's going to be the most recognised name in GCW and, from a similar perspective, people who have never heard of GCW are talking about it. Ryder getting his ass kicked or visa versa will probably be the company's most viewed event.

I had several friends at the show this weekend. A few of my buddies wrestled on the GCW show, and some others worked JCW and Hybrid Wrestling which were in the same building this weekend. I actually like MOST of what GCW does. If it's not Tournament of Survival or The Nick Gage Invitational, their other shows have 1-2 death matches tops. A lot of the guys who have been signed to 205 lately have come from GCW. The Hybrid Wrestling show was EXCELLENT in my opinion. I tuned in just for Mance/Manders, and I ended up enjoying every match.

Gage is an icon to that scene, man. And from what I hear he's a true locker room leader and stand up guy. My buddy said he was handing out bottled water to the boys and telling everybody to stay hydrated. I think post prison/dying, Gage has been a different man. I think he knows how lucky he is to get a second chance, and I BELIEVE he's straight edge now? But I could be wrong. He's at the very least not abusing drugs or alcohol. Also, Gage had some of my favorite straight up wrestling matches during Beyond Wrestling's Uncharted Territory show. He can go without light tubes, glass, and bullshit...I don't think it's his preference to do non-death match stuff, but he can. If you watch his entrance, it's insane. The energy he gives and takes from that crowd is insane. Moxley said it perfect in the Dark Side of the Ring. Vince McMahon would love to have someone who connects with the crowd like Nick Gage does.

As for Ryder, I think him as the corporate shill WWE simp is a perfect character for him to play. That crowd will fucking hate him. He will have to fight his way out.

Alex Colon seen sweeping out the arena before the show, isn't something you would see at any other show.. the guy who won the whole thing, setting up and cleaning up.

The connection Gage has with the MDK is unlike anything I ever seen before. It was no shoot that the letters he got in prison reformed him. Before he went away, Gage never really need to care about the fans. Now he is back, the connection is unreal. And Gage does go to bat for them. He makes it clear that anyone has a problem with his fans because they are not white, gay, trans, ect, they got a problem with Gage himself. Cody and others give pretty little speeches but Gage hammers the point home he does not want discrimination bullshit at his shows period.

Also find it interesting now that Gage is fighting more and more women. Him and Lufisto went to fucking war in CZW in a some disgustingly violent matches that looked like shoots. Since he returned he has been taking falls to girls more and more though.

For people into Gage, this is a killer interview with him. Really shows the real Gage. It is hilarious his favorite guys are people like Omega, Drew Gulak, ZSJ and other guys. I remember once in CZW he broke out chain / mat shit and the crowd went nuts. Also fun to see how fucking excited he gets talking about wrestling.

A lot of great stories here about him and Justice Pain.  

Ryder's gimmick is in. He is an ECW original!!!

I've always wondered how GCW has gained recognition. I don't know much about the promotion.
