I'm bogged down in SummerSlam '92 still. This PPV is a fucking chore to get through for some reason. Is it generally regarded as a good PPV? Or is it really just a one match card?

It's generally regarded as a good PPV. Bret/Bulldog is obvious. Warrior/Savage was a good match enhanced by a cool storyline. Martel/HBK was a fun sports entertainmenty heel vs. heel encounter. I've even come across a contrarian claiming Natural Disasters/Beverly Brothers was their favorite match on the show. LOD/Money Inc was a perfectly cromulent opener. Though Kamala/Taker (the match I was most excited for in real time) was disappointing while the Crush & Nailz matches were just glorified squashes to continue getting those new characters over.

I never even heard of King Of The Ring until 1993, before that it was just a special house show tourney. Harley Race won it in 1986 but I don't recall the WWF making a big deal of him winning a tournament to claim the crown. They never mentioned Bret winning in 1991, they made it they shiny new toy to TV viewers in'93.

Probably considered a two-match card, depending on people's thoughts on Savage/Warrior.

It definitely has its low points and the full show (adding Duggan/Whackers vs. Mountie/Nastys as opener, Shango/Tito and Tatanka/Berserker) is worse.

LOD/Money Inc. is probably too long and mileage varies on LOD as faces in peril but it has the cool motorcycle entrance as a memorable opening on the PPV showing. While Taker/Kamala is poor, it has the first ever special Taker entrance, riding the hearse. You also have the bagpipers with Piper appearance and just generally the feel and atmosphere of the event with the rabid stadium crowd.

Two great matches (Bret/Bulldog and Warrior/Savage), one good fun one (HBK/Martel), one solid tag (Disasters/Beverlys) and some cool moments. It is a show where it manages to be more than the sum of its parts.

It is probably hurt for you by having watched the TV build and not getting the matches you'd expect and want. Certainly would've been helped by keeping the feuds not affected by Bret/Bulldog going.

Art Donovan was such a disaster for commentary but there are a couple unintentional comedy moments that make it okay by me.

Jarretts beat down on Kid was brutal and awesome.

Brets graffiti style singlet will forever by my favorite.

Also loved Macho saying the longer the IRS/Mable match went the better it was for IRS because of endurance. Meanwhile the sweat dripping off IRS could flood a desert.

I’m sure Meltzer shit all over it (too lazy to look) but I loved the Piper/King main event. Just fun classic old school goodness with a good crowd.

Owen winning was cool. He’s got one of the best shit eating grins of all time.

The Bret/Diesel match was good but seemed to last 10 minutes too long.
