Just not meaningless matches I like wrestling for a reason - be it character work or as part of a story. Keep em under 5 minutes for these purposes. Though it’s fun seeing DDP and Cactus team up against the Freebirds.

I need to find some WCW stuff from around this time. What was their Superstars esque show called? I can’t remember though I do know I watched it occasionally. WCW Saturday Night. But you won’t find the camp stuff you’re seeing on Superstars. It was like 90% wrestling during this time I'm pretty sure. I beg to differ, UT search for Cactus Jack Lost In Cleveland, The Masters Of the Powerbomb mini-movie, The White Castle Of Fear mini movie and the Spin The Wheel mini-movie. Plenty of camp to be had their. Plus there is the stuff with Lord Steven Regal and Bobby Eaton, Dusty and Dustin Rhodes with the Nasty Boys getting in a bar room brawl, Sting and the mysterious gift boxes, The Black Scorpion, WCW wasn't not adverse to sports entertainment. For me Power Hour was the Superstars like show since it aired at 8 or 9 on Saturday mornings just before Superstars. Saturday Night was the A show before Nitro became a thing.

So far I’ve seen a Ricky Steamboat “woman beater” story - he straight up smacked her! Wow.
Also DDP is hilarious and great on the mic even back then. DDP interrupting Steve Austin was great.

I just reviewed an episode of Saturday Night in the match review thread where Steamboat was accused of stalking Madusa and random women were coming out of the wood work accusing Steamboat of being a creeper. It was like the Jerry Springer show all set up in a sit down interview segment between JR and Rick Rude. Also look for Flair's talk show A Flair for the Gold that aired in early 1993 on Saturday Night while he still had the no compete clause from the WWF. Plenty of material from that segment.

I mean, if you were married to Bonnie Steamboat, wouldn't you feel compelled to stalk other women? [allegedly]

Listening to JR defend it on commentary was a little cringe but also quite funny. Why would a company put arguably the most natural and beloved baby faces in that position?

This was after the slap, maybe it was to draw attention away from that lame "Family Man" theme music he had around that time, lol. Also that segment had Alabama's Randy Owen raking Rick Rude over the coals, even broaching the why he left the WWF subject.

Rick Rude has already alluded to that in a few promo's himself.
"All those fat slobs up north" - it got a chuckle out of me.

I missed so much PW goodness this week. Gonna have to go on a 🤯 liking streak as I comb through all the notifications & threads. UT How you gonna call Crush the worst of all time (even though he did suck) when Nailz is right there? Nailz was terrible at the wrestling aspect of wrestling but I do think he was an effective heel simply because he creeped me out during the Bossman feud. *Hank Hill voice* That boy ain't right. I thought High Energy sucked in real time. Definitely not my cup of tea back then. But I never cared about them enough to consider them one of the worst ever. At the very least I'm sure the matches were decent given the talent of Owen & Koko. Ed I agree the Varsity Club run was the best period of Mike Rotunda's career but you'll not catch me hating on IRS. He was a good to great heel who peaked as the biggest jerk in all of wrestling for most of 93-94. That was a sort of a proto-99 Bossman run when it came to just being a straight up jerk with no redeeming qualities. I always considered Worldwide the WCW version of Superstars while Saturday Night was their (pre-Nitro) version of Raw. It says a lot about the kind of fan I am that many of my favorite WCW moments were the over the top sports entertainment stuff Shootist mentioned. As I told Nobi back in the day I'll get the Network again when they start posting 95-96 episodes of Superstars.

I said Nailz was the worst too BakerI’ve been watching both Superstars and Raw now - don’t know why because you don’t miss a thing but it’s been fun. A few things: Man was this roster thin at this time. Or at least they relied on very few people to be workhorses. It was actually kind of nice. Who the fuck would ever book Janetty/Doink in a 2 out of 3 falls match. Lord that wasn’t very good until the random announcer run ins. Anyone who thinks Marty could have been HBK needs their head examined. He’s fine but not much more. Billy Gunn wasn’t always a body guy - he was actually incredibly unimpressive as a Smoking Gunn. At least at first. Can’t wait to see Virgil vs Bastion Booger. Just because.

I've never actually seen Marty/Doink but there are people who LOVE that match. Pretty sure Strobe is one of them. Like I've seen people call it the WWF Match of the Year. The first Virgil/Booger match is memorable just because it features something you almost never see.

I found it to be quite boring and the ending was ridiculous. Virgil won via a roll up! Being Boogers debut I figured it would be a pseudo squash for the Booman. Nope. Worlds worst roll up. Booger really is shaped like a turtle. Adam Bomb was physically impressive. Seemed his biggest as Adam Bomb even bigger than Wraith. A different gimmick may have worked - it’s not like he was worse than Crush.

Aren’t you a Mr. Hughes guy Baker? He is also terrible. Tito Santana is also incredibly boring. Like holy cow. It’s crazy with the shape of the roster at this point they didn’t let Macho wrestle , rumored to be because of “youth” yet Santana is out there being possibly the most boring wrestler on the roster.

That's why I always remembered it. They killed Booger right off the bat. Then again it's not like a guy named Bastion Booger in THAT outfit had much chance of getting over to begin with. Yeah, Adam Bomb was infinitely better than Crush. Bomb actually had a lot of the tools it took to be a star. It just never clicked with him for whatever reason. Not sure exactly where you are in '93 but I think the JJ vignettes start around November.

Shame too because he might be the most effective heel on the roster.

Aren’t you a Mr. Hughes guy Baker ? He is also terrible. Tito Santana is also incredibly boring. Like holy cow. Nah. My brother was a big Mr. Hughes guy though. He loved Hughes' heel sneer. Weird wrestling taste must run in the family. Tito's stock actually rose big time with me over the years. Thought he was boring as a kid but he's actually really good....at least in the 80s. I'm sure he was past it by '93 though. I often forget how long some of these guys stuck around- Tito, Virgil, Repo Man, Typhoon, Koko, Berzerker, Kamala, Bossman, Duggan, Beefcake, Nasty Boys, Terry Taylor, etc. were still employed by WWF in 1993! In my head they belong to earlier eras. Marty & The Model, too.

Yeah I’m the same - like keep thinking “this must be the last Kamala match” and nope he’s still there weeks later. Even running angles but his schtick just didn’t work for me at this point but he was more over than a lot of faces on the roster.
I have no problem with 80s Santana - he probably fit there more and was at least a different flavor than the rest of the roster. In 1993 though.. I just can’t not fast forward.

Booger gets his win back this week with a “devastating maneuver” (2nd rope splash). God damn 50/50 booking - no wonder Booger and Virgil couldn’t get over.
Listening to Vince put over Boogers second rope splash was great. It was more like a fall but he acts like Bam Bam Bigelow isn’t in the roster doing far more impressive things for a big dude.
Ope! Speak of the devil! Bam Bam interview to follow! Lol

Bam Bam had it all but the mic skills. Desperately could have used a manager to talk for him.

Getting into the beginning of August now. A few things...
This Bret/Lawler feud really brings me back as this was around the time I was getting into wrestling. Lawler was such an effective heel and not knowing the history of the WWE prior to this you wouldn't know he was so new to the company at this point.
One thing that still bugs me - what the fuck is with this Tiny Tim shit? I still have no clue exactly who this guy is or why he was supposed to be important. It really just seems like them trying to recapture the Kaufman magic with a far less capable guy on the other side of Lawler. Watched their first segment last night and it was one of the worst things I've seen so far. Just keep him fucking with Bret.
Really think the Razor/123 Kid feud was really well done. I'm at the beginning of Razors face turn (I think) but Kid was really over for that period. Brings back memories but for good reason , no wonder why it hooked me.
This Lex face turn is the shits. These 5 weeks of introspective interviews are really , really bad and none of it seems right. Why couldn't they just keep him heel? It was working.
Macho and Doink just had a match on RAW that I had no idea happened and with that ending , I was better off. The match itself was interesting and solid with Macho being cut off by Doink at every point - until the end when Macho crawled under the ring and sent out a midget version of himself - who was also disfigured and it all went off the rails. So stupid. Vince's obsession with midgets knows no bounds.
Which brings me to my next point that still drives me crazy. Why aren't they utilizing Macho more? They already have so few babyfaces with Taker barely being around. Macho was still hugely over and clearly still had it. Yet the force fucked Luger into that face spot because they needed someone aside from Bret.
In line with our tag team countdown coming up , and not to talk too much about it now - but as great and entertaining as the Steiners could be in the ring - they were AWFUL on the mic. Could have really used some type of manager.

A little of both still, probably starting to become more Raw-centric now but Raw has also been a ton of fun. I just go back and forth. I do fast forward through a few matches but not a lot. Mainly Curtis Hughes squashes. Or anything do with IRS. Sorry Baker. Coming up to Summerslam now , watch along with me!

So if the IWC was a big thing when Horowitz was around - what percentage would be bitching and morning that he loses every week and deserves a title run? 15% 25%?
I love Horowitz. He’s awesome and the best jobber of all time.

So Mini Macho is apparently a reoccurring character. I think he's been on like 4 weeks in a row now.
Including a 6 man tag match where he teamed up with the Bushwhackers to face jobbers. Including a mini jobber.
Also I think running a Raw Girl contest or something. Good lord.
I mean why wouldn't you have Mini Mach taking up these times when you have the real Mach sitting there doing nothing on commentary.
