Maybe , or maybe even not. He just could have been there and in important matches anywhere on the card - not to mention he could have at least been used to put over some of the "New Generation" they were pushing so hard. Considering how much he gave Doink in that match I'm fairly certain he would have been okay with it as well.
I don't know , I know it's been a well covered topic overall but watching it happen again just seems so silly. Macho vs Bam Bam , Macho vs Lex , Macho vs Razor , Macho vs HBK all could have been a program at one point that would have made more sense. Obviously not time to do everyone one but a few of them would have been great.

Some reports say that Randy wanted time off , others say that Vince wanted to transition away his era. Personally I believe that it was Vince who wanted to transition away. If Randy really wanted time off , I don’t think he would go back for random Raw matches against Doink and also show up in WCW so quickly.

Also ironic given his reluctance to let go of bygone eras in current WWE.

So Mini Macho is apparently a reoccurring character. I think he's been on like 4 weeks in a row now. Including a 6 man tag match where he teamed up with the Bushwhackers to face jobbers. Including a mini jobber. Also I think running a Raw Girl contest or something. Good lord. I mean why wouldn't you have Mini Mach taking up these times when you have the real Mach sitting there doing nothing on commentary. Mini Mach was even in the 1993 WWF Magazine Superstars Yearbook, that was the only time I remember seeing him in real time. Savage wanted to do a program with Shawn back in 1992 and that was nixed. I believe it was Vince who sidelined him with the commentary gig.

Mr. Hughes should have been Money Inc's bodyguard. Out there sneering and holding IRS' briefcase while making sure they never lose. Did I just think of this for the first time after 28 years or is it a 🤯 revisionist booking special? The most common story is Vince phased Savage out because he thought he was getting too old. Not gonna lie. I didn't think twice about it in real time...or for the 20+ years. But, yeah, nowadays it's super weird Vince didn't do more with Mach in 93-94. I'd have been all about that theoretical Barry Horowitz push and agree with Ed on Barry beating Skip being a great moment. I've told the story before of how that was the catalyst for THE big wrestling boom in neighborhood. UT what do you think of Borga & The Quebecers so far? I'll admit Borga was a slow starter. He didn't start getting hot until around Summerslam/Labor Day, but I was all in on The Quebecers from day one because of their epic theme and epic squashes. I didn't get the whole Tiny Tim thing in real time either. He was a minor celebrity back in the 60s. He was a regular guest on either Johnny Carson or Ed Sullivan. I forget which one and am too lazy to look it up. His big claims to fame are the novelty song Tiptoe Through The Tulips and getting shoot married on one of those shows I just mentioned.

I don’t remember seeing Borga yet? Did I miss his debut - that would be sad.
Still enjoy the Quebecers for what they were. They are definitely more entertaining than Heavenly Bodies who seem like they should have been around in the 80s.
Going to have to get back into the thick of it.

Crazy that Midget Mach was apparently around more than we allowed ourselves to remember.

I think I'll need to watch it again as I don't really remember much from it.

Heel Doink is such a good worker , I know I gave the 2/3 falls match shit but he is just solid as can be in the ring. The gimmick holds him back but he impresses me each time out.
Half way through Summerslam 93 now. Really think it’s been solid so far - as dumb as I think the Heavenly Bodies gimmicks was - they are again… solid as they come and probably even really good. Fun match with the Steiners minus a botched ending. Razor/Dibiase was good as well. IRS/Kid… it happened.
Looking forward to Lawler/Bret after the Doink match. Though I think the ending was dumb…. All the refs holding Bruce and Owen back while Bret gets pummeled with a crutch.

UT has inspired me... Gonna try something different for me, and instead of "live tweeting" my way through, I'll note brief thoughts that I can recall afterwards following a simple format. SUPERSTARS | S07 E16 | 04/18/1992Jobber of the Week: Red TylerRed looks like the love child of a pre-Undertaker Mark Callaway and "Made in the USA" Lex Luger. Martel gave him more offense than any other JTTS got this episode, making Red seem all the more impressive on top of his good physique and unique ring gear. Jim Powers was runner-up for looking so jacked and cut and wrestling like a pro, but his past as a Young Stallion makes him feel too "known" to truly be a ham-and-egger. Squasher of the Week: The Legion of DoomLOD is designed to squash, and they kick the episode off in exciting and effective squash fashion against JTTS legends Duane Gill & Barry Hardy. Insert Promo of the Week: Papa ShangoThis wasn't a runaway per se, but Shango did transfix son. Made me feel justified feeling more than a little spooked by Shano myself as a kid. Other Random Thoughts:It's interesting how early on they're sowing the seeds for a Bret/Shawn match. Feels like that program was clearly the grand scheme plan before the Wembley pivot to Bulldog. Berzerker feels like an underrated great opponent for Undertaker. Wish we'd gotten more of them IRL. Repo Man is such a dumb gimmick and waste of Smash. What could they have done with him instead?

Thinking on it and reflecting on Crush's vignette, why not just keep Smash as Smash but rebrand him as bizarro Crush... a Wario/Waluigi version who likes to smash things, but since he lacks the size and strength of Crush, must "cheat" by using a sledgehammer to smash shit?

That would be an interesting angle to take but the WWE weren’t going to pull anything that nuanced off. They couldn’t even pull off Crush.
Repo Man was cringe , especially carrying around that tow rope but he would have been the perfect jobber. Just a shame they tried actual programs with him first.
One could also argue they were better off just keeping them both as Demolition but Vince clearly seen dollar signs in Crush as a singles guy.

I'm curious to see if I end up being as harsh on Crush as you are. I recall being pleasantly surprised by him at WMIX and even WMX during my recent WrestleMania WatchThru. Granted, I had a pretty low bar for him going in. Also, you're right Repo might've been OK if booked better. Meaning not beyond what the silly character warranted. Even if Darsow's talents could've been better utilized. I also feel like he should've been kept more closely associated with Money Incorporated as their lackey, stealing shit from mid card faces known for their props.

I don't know , watching Crush every week is a different experience I think. Especially listening to Vince and spending more time listening to his promos.
That would have been a more fun gimmick for Repo Man. Have you gotten to the Bulldog angle yet? It's crazy how many attempted murders happened in a WWF ring at the time.

Nope, I'm only the one episode in. Thinking I'll watch or at least put on one a day in the mornings before work to semi occupy son instead of reading to him. That said, I'll keep an eye out for the Bulldog angle. Who tries to kill him? I'm assuming Zerk? If so, considering his penchant for attempted murder, I'm surprised he wasn't a bigger and more feared force in the WWF.

Crush's work holds up surprisingly well. By 1998, Bryan Adams was a dirty word among WCW fans and he's often cited as an example of the nWo going too far. However I sat through this 10 minute Nitro match he had with Lex expecting the worst and what I got was a surprisingly well crafted meat and potatos match which the crowd ate up. His work is fairly generic but the kicks make him stand out and he obviously had value in the roster.
93 is a rebuild year for the company but like you guys I just love the presentation. They clearly put some thought into everything they did and they don't cut the camera 30 times in 30 seconds. This is my new favourite thread on PW.

God, those camera cuts might have more to do with the death of modern era wrestling than anything else. Off of one episode alone, I have to echo UT and the sentiment that Superstars achieves far more in an hour than any 3-hour RAW ever has.

The presentation is some of the best parts - and the way Vince just announces it and treats everything makes it seem important. As much as I give some of it shit and consider it cringe , I still think they a great job of conveying to the audience what they want and make it all palatable. And definitely 🤯 - I still stand by that statement. Even in a 42 minute window of squashes , maybe a few vignettes and short promos - they manage to get you to know about a character , possibly their feud and what to expect in the ring. All well not giving away too much on TV. I was thinking about it watching Summerslam last night - it was actually exciting. We didn't see Bret vs Lawler 8 times leading up to Summerslam but now it counted for real - it was a build and this was the first real time Bret was supposed to get his hands on Lawler. That mattered as did the swerve and the people even in a down period were super into it. Same with Lex and Yoko. PPV's don't feel that special anymore even with IMO far more talent across the roster. Also thinking during the terrible (not even in a good way) RIP match with Giant Gonzalez and Taker last night - it's a miracle Taker survived and eventually flourished as much as he did. He had some really bad angles and matches and spending 90% of that match crawling towards a magical urn really just fucking sucked and made his character stupid and not even really that fearsome. Props to the WWE and Taker to perservere and turn that into one of the greatest careers of all time because honestly in 1993 right now - he just isn't allowed to be great.
