I’m also preconditioned to knock a lot of teams like The Mega Powers or even Rated RKO for being more thrown together than actual teams. They might make a list because of their status and dominance but not over teams who actually made a career of it.

I will also most likely stay away from the thrown together tag teams.

Starting the list , got the Top 12 down and trying to do a bit of research to either confirm or refute my preconveived ideas of teams. It's interesting but kind of tough.
Figured now that I've been watching a ton of old WWF lately and am pretty much a wrestling expert it would be easier.

I'm a big tag team guy, because as a kid watching tag matches meant seeing more wrestlers. Watching the teamwork and innovation of moves was always great especially if I was unfamiliar with them. So, for me the more you know makes it harder, because you're constantly going..."Oh I must find a spot for X team and Y team, because they were so good, just overlooked because the wrestled in Mid South or Texas or wherever." edit: If you look around a little, you can find some really good All Time Tag Team lists that are very objective.

I think that’s what a lot of my 30-50 is going to be. Or teams I think deserve a bit more recognition but also qualify. Like Strike Force - a team rarely talked about but when I spent every weekend renting those old PPVs you would have thought they were a huge deal. One team that has risen through the ranks in my recent rewatched is Money Inc. For some reason in my psyche I always thought of them as a short lived thrown together tag team but in the 92-93 range they were legit one of the most leaned upon acts in the company. Weird but they probably make it in my 30-35 range now as opposed to the 45-50 range.

I will likely too but there are exceptions though. Teams like The Bar that were thrown together because Cesaro and Sheamus were directionless and someone went "hey we're paying these guys too much to do nothing and they're buddies in real life so fuck it." They had no business being as good as they were, but they were. I loved that team. Jeri-Show is another. Two main eventers with nothing to do get written together and because they're ultra talented they had a pretty long, pretty good run. The Mega Powers or The Power Trip though, no thanks. Those tag teams only existed as a lazy way to make a feud between them happen.

I mean nobody really gives a shit about the New Day, right? I was more excited for Kofi to be a singles champion then anything they did as a team. I do agree that they didn't bring any value to the division and will even rank The USOS above them. Wish jTjohncenaGOAT didn't go on hiatus before making a list.

Those tag teams only existed as a lazy way to make a feud between them happen. Yes these teams were thrown together, but they became a real team(s). I don't know if they'll make my list, but I wouldn't be upset with either of those. More than likely half the teams are thrown together and then magic/chemistry happens. Look at the Midnights with Stan Lane...Dennis left and the Fabs broke up, Bobby needed a partner and here's Stan. Stan was put with Bobby by...not Jim Cornette...Dusty Rhodes. Totally agree with the Mega Powers/ Power Trip...those are the teams I'm referring to. The glory days of Tag Team wrestling was basically The 70's to mid 90's. With exceptions of course, but rivalries and feuds were actually a thing with tag teams.

Does the Shield count as a tag team? Rollins/Roman? Yes because people are going to count the Von Erichs and Freebirds and the aforementioned New Day.

So no thrown together teams? It’s up to you , they technically count but some people clearly aren’t regarding them as highly.

We should also use this thread for suggestions of forgotten teams. I know we know the main teams, but I'm sure there were some cool teams we may have forgotten about. This ones for 🤯.

Sunny alone at that time should be enough to get the Body Donna's in the Top 5 - alas though they'll missed my list because I didn't figure Sunny into the equation.

are the Midnight Express one team or 2 different teams? I was just going to ask this, I'm combining everyone, Norvell Austin, Randy Rose, Dennis, Stan and Bobby all in one myself.

are the Midnight Express one team or 2 different teams? I mean…. Shootist ? I lumped everyone in to boost their ranking on my list anyways. I also lumped all the Freebirds together with Terry, Buddy, PS and Jimmy Garvin too. I dunno, I find if you split those kind of teams up it could diminish their ranking. I guess I'm coming from an overall legacy standpoint.

Now if people want to dig deep on the history of the Hollywood Blonds, that's a different story. You're going from Buddy Roberts in 1970 to Steve Austin in 1993 on that one.

I only went with Austin and Pillman since they were by far the most famous version. With the names I have though I doubt they will make my top 50. I'm in the midst of going through the AWA right now.

I'll play along even if I'm not the biggest fan of open ending Greatest of All Time countdowns simply because I don't think I've seen enough wrestling. @ck Be careful what you wish for. I'll try calling it right down the middle but I do have my quirks. I may very well start to play favorites once I get down into the 40s and I don't think you are going to like my favorites. Bodydonnas have no chance of making my list. They sucked. Godwinns would totally crack my Top 100 though. Strongly object to Shootist's edict. Midnight Express, Freebirds, Heavenly Bodies, etc. should be separated. Now I must go back to pounding the imaginary dislike button for Big Pete's heinous Young Bucks post.

Favorite I can understand splitting them up, but greatest just has a larger scope for me. Dennis and Bobby were together from 83-87, Bobby and Stan from 87-90. Longevity has huge weight on my scale anyway so taking in the overall body of work from 1980-1990 just seems easier to quantify and not splitting hairs. Personally though people can do what they want.
