I take it all back.... Baker was right........ again. Currently watching more 80's Memphis wrestling for inspiration right now and Lance Russell was one of the smoothest dudes this side of the Mississippi. I also watched this gem for the first time ever: Hooray! Glad you came around on Lance. Nice video, too. I had never seen that one before. It shows a side of Lance I never knew existed Also, Al Costello of the FABULOUS KANGAROOS~! I just didn't see enough of him apparently. I remember you either saying or me reading that he was a sportscaster too and man, he blends good old timey sportscasting with charm and wit very well the more you listen to him. He's honestly one of the best parts of this whole compilation for me. Just finished Lawler/Funk '81, such a fun old-school match. I've read about the feud a lot and I've seen some random clips, but this crowd is insane. Jerry was seriously the man here. "Eye of the Tiger" entrance and the all white singlet? Fuckin' mint, brother.

Figures the commentary was nonstop "never gonna see guys like this anymore. Who still watches this TRASH rofl"
But the OG is an all-time great. Ugh, don't tempt me to watch to find out. Fucking trap.
A cool thing to have done was make HIAC Taker's match. I always thought it was weird Taker had all these goofy "specialties" in gimmicks, but it was usually used to put the other guy over without Taker taking a basic bitch singles loss. He will always top out a HIAC list, but doesn't seem he has enough good ones to get his own.

I remember the first half of End of an Era was so-so but once it kicks in it's one of the more enjoyable Wrestlemania matches of all-time.
I've never gone back to see the Wrestlemania XXVII match, but in real-time I got worked hard. I thought they did an excellent job of working the match like HHH was going to win and the way they crafted near-falls was so good. I think knowing the result now the match will likely seem like a bunch of smoke and mirrors but I was hooked and it was clearly the best match of the night.
My HiaC rankings
1. Mankind vs. The Undertaker - It set the bar for what a Hell in a Cell match was and nothing will ever top it as a spectacle. 2. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker - I haven't watched this since before Wrestlemania XXV, but I remember feeling as good as WMXXV was, it paled in comparison to this. 3. Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker '02 - Brock's RR2000 moment. A great match that helped re-define what a Hell in a Cell match could be. Maybe the best hoss match in WWE history?
---- The rest
Dead Last The Undertaker vs. Big Bossman - Wrestlemania XV. The match is just a train wreck. Every high spot they set up was botched and the most memorable spot was Michael Cole wondering aloud whether Bossman being hung was symbolism. It was like that anime butterfly meme 15 years before it's time.

Also haven't seen this one (it's modern WWE afterall) so the only thing I'm aware of is they removed padding on the actual ring to expose the wood. Take that out and is it still good?

"I gave my ranking" = stop being too lazy to scroll up you dumb jabroni mark.
It does show that the match seemingly only works if Taker is part of it though. I did have a soft spot for HHH/Foley, dunno if it holds up beyond the spot though.

I've actually never seen HHH/Foley. I'll trade you, and check that out in the imminent future and drop some thoughts.

Since we're ranking Hell In A Cells... 1. Michaels/Taker 2. Taker/Mankind 3. HHH/Mankind 4. Brock/Taker 5. Batista/HHH 6. Taker/Edge 7. Armageddon 2000 8. HHH/Jericho 9. That one on Raw in the late 90s Last: Taker/Bossman =========== rad I think that Lawler/Funk match was the first bout to break the star rating system. Long before Meltzer, Jim Cornette's friend Norman "Weasel" Dooley brought the **** scale for rating movies to wrestling. A Lawler/Funk match was so good it broke their **** system. The ***** system remained the new normal for like 35 years (aside from one ****** Flair/Steamboat house show match).

There was a period of time where I could name every Hell in a Cell match.
1. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker - In Your House Bad Blood 2. Kane vs. Mankind - Raw 1998 3. Mankind vs. The Undertaker - King of the Ring 1998 4. Big Bossman vs. The Undertaker - Wrestlemania XV 5. Cactus Jack vs. Triple H - No Way Out 2000 6. Rikishi vs. Triple H vs. Steve Austin vs. The Rock vs. The Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle - Armageddon 2000 7. Triple H vs. Chris Jericho - Judgement Day 2002 8. Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker - No Mercy 2002 9. Kevin Nash vs. Triple H - Bad Blood 2003 10. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H - Bad Blood 2004 11. Batista vs. Triple H - Vengeance 2005 12. Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker - Armaggedon 2005 (RIP Tim White)
This is where things turn hairy...I can't remember whether something like D-X vs. The McMahons and Show was Hell in a Cell or a regular cage. 13. Batista vs. The Undertaker - Survivor Series 2007 14. Edge vs. The Undertaker - SummerSlam 2008 15. Randy Orton vs. John Cena - Hell in a Cell 2009 16. CM Punk vs. The Undertaker - Hell in a Cell 2009 17. D-X vs. Legacy - Hell in a Cell 2009 (??) 17. Sheamus vs. Randy Orton - Hell in a Cell 2010 (??) 18. Kane vs. The Undertaker - Hell in a Cell 2010 (??!) 19. Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena vs. CM Punk - Hell in a Cell 2011 20. CM Punk vs. Ryback - Hell in a Cell 2012 (Damn that Brad Maddox! One of the more memorable Cells) 21. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton - Hell in a Cell 2013 (Why Shawn, Why?!) 22. Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins - Hell in a Cell 2014 (Bray obviously draws inspiration from Cochella and appears via a hologram) 23. Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns - Hell in a Cell 2015 24. Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker - Hell in a Cell 2015 (the match that was held back by modern WWE limitations, rather shallow and pedantic) 25. Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker - Wrestlemania 32 26. Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks - Hell in a Cell 2016 27. Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins - Hell in a Cell 2016 ...I seriously have no memory of 2017. 28. Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura ?? 29. Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon - OK I remember this. Shane goes for a suicide dive and Sami turned heel. 30. Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs. Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler (??) 31. New Day vs. The Usos - Hell in a Cell 2018 (This did happen in 2018, right? I remember fans raving about it) 32. Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton - Hell in a Cell 2018/19 - I can't remember which year but this was a surprisingly good match, better than their disappointing 2008 RR match. 33. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks - Hell in a Cell 2019 (Great match) 34. Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins - Actually I could be wrong about Bossman/Taker being the worst match. 35. Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso - Hell in a Cell 2020 (I'm pretty sure I have the right Uso, I'd toss this in as a top 10 contender) 36. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks - Hell in a Cell 2020 (pretty sure this was really good too...) 37. Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton - Hell in a Cell 2020 38. Seth Rollins vs. Edge - Crown Jewel 2021
I'm keen to see how I did.

Huh, there were TWO Raw Hell in a Cell matches. Honestly I was never sure if the Mankind/Kane one really even counted. But yeah a tornado tag with Austin/Taker vs. Mankind/Kane (the second HiaC) before they did Kane/Mankind at Philly. So D-X vs. The Corporation WAS a HiaC match. By this point I was done with both D-X and ECW so I can see why I switched off. Genuinely surprised with the D-X vs. Legacy pick. I'm glad rad brought up the 2009 tag team division the other day because I remember Jeri-Show being actively good while the DX/Legacy matches were so boring. Also shocked that I called Undertaker vs. Kane. That was just a guess because I knew they feuded in 2010 and they had to have had two HiaC matches. I remember Orton/Sheamus as one of Sheamus' better matches of that time. I had no idea there was a 2011 HiaC Dark match. It doesn't count but cool to learn something new. Forgot that Henry defended inside the Cell. That would have to be one of the worst Cell matches, yeah? END OF AN ERA! OMG! There always has to be one obvious omission. RIP No wonder Punk/Ryback was so memorable, they did a rare rematch the next year. Albeit Heyman was also involved in the match so technically not a true rematch...but c'mon it's a rematch. 29. I'm not shocked at all that I forgot Cena/Orton also had a HiaC rematch. I'm pretty sure this was after their disastrous RR 2014 match as well. 34. Roman Reigns vs. Rusev - Yeah...had no idea this match even existed. I just remember Rollins/Owens being a typical modern match which I hated and liking Charlotte/Sasha more despite it having some botches. 35. New Day vs. The Usos 2017 and 2018 really run together for me. OK Jinder/Shinsuke and The Shield/Ziggler & McIntyre never took place in a Cell. 46 - 49 - Wow 5 Cell matches this year. I had recollections of watching these matches but for whatever reason I remember them as Cage matches. I also must have missed the Woods/Lashley match on RAW and the Mysterio/Roman match on SmackDown. I'm going to have to remedy that. So 50 Cell matches in total. I never really considered the RAW matches official Cell matches, so I'm pretty happy with that early recollect. The rest...especially after they made HiaC it's own PPV woof. End of an Era though...I think I need a head assessment.

1.) HBK/Taker (Bad Blood) 2.) Taker/Lesnar I 3.) Taker/Mankind (KOTR) .... 69.) "End Of An Era" 🤯 now has to say or think an obligatory "nice" no matter what. In all seriousness: it's not complete dogshit or anything. But it's way too try hard of a match for me. Pete and Ness kind of nailed it respectively: it lags a bunch at the start and then the cornball exit together at the end. I just wasn't a fan but maybe I do need to give it a second viewing, it has been almost a decade since I last watched it. That being said, Taker/HHH at WMX7 was their best Mania match for me and super underrated in general. I don't feel like it ever gets enough love.

Wrestling Shirts In The Wild: Part IV
Saw a guy in the store today wearing an NWO shirt. Lots of tattoos. Guessing mid-late 30s. Seeing an NWO shirt in the wild, even here in the year 2021, isn't that unusual. Then he turned around and I saw the big 6 ball. Meaning he was wearing a Syxx shirt. Now that is unusual.
