US intel thinks if Russia does not get the weapons they want from their allies to quickly end the war, likely in coming weeks they will deploy a nuke to lose the war as martyrs. Losing the war after NATO coming in would be a better loss than losing the war from being unable to capture the major Ukraine cities and slowly seeing their army get worn down. Hmmm

In the West we think action is a sternly worded press release or changing a profile photo to a flag... These leaders are showing Russia and the West what real balls look like, mad respect from me.

Of course they will stick to the same line, nobody is choosing to go to war with a nuclear power headed by an unstable megalomaniac. Looks like Russia is about to default on a debt payment, if this happens it will affect their ability to secure credit for a generation and may end up literally stalling their war effort. The only way they have a remote chance of paying it is with rubles and given the coallpase of the currency and the debts being in USD the amount they have to pay back has more than doubled. If they could access their USD reserves it wouldn't be such a big deal.

In the West we think action is a sternly worded press release or changing a profile photo to a flag... These leaders are showing Russia and the West what real balls look like, mad respect from me. When I read this that's the first think I thought: 'look at the grapefruits on these Prime Ministers'. Ukraine must feel so alone. Sure we are doing what we can with respect to sanctions and relief, but NATO has their hands pretty tied. They can't admit them or declare a no fly zone over Ukraine without starting WWIII against Russia and likely China (both of whom have nuclear weapons and unstable leaders who have no respect of life other than their own). I got called out for a post on FB I made saying 'make jokes about the rising gas costs, but don't forget how how lucky we are that we can afford to joke about that or anything right now when people in the Ukraine are worried if they are going to survive the next hour'. The person is a friend of mine with family in the Ukraine. Her 'hubby' heads the Ukrainian Canadian Congress here. Meanwhile, mom and I have been donating what we can to the Red Cross. I can't understand the stress and frustration they must be feeling not knowing if their family is ok, but I felt a little irritated. I can't be there to help with the relief efforts, so I give where I can. Sure it doesn't take much effort to donate, but at least I'm doing something. Maybe I should do more. I don't know. Trying times.

GOP slowly remembering their role as war hawks. Many Senators demanding we give Ukraine fighter jets, despite Russia saying they will consider that an act of war by NATO. GOP says there is no reason that hold up Biden though. Of course if Biden were to do it, they would SCREAM that he brought the US into a war we against our strongest ally.
Was reading the foreign legion is getting upset in Ukraine. The Americans at least are upset they still do not have rifles and are not happy about the conditions of their lodging in Kiev. Also they seem to be upset that some Americans are getting geared up and set into battle, while others have to train. Naturally, the Ukraine is not training the US vets that are going over. But the gun nuts that went over just to kill people legally are not having a good time. Also hearing that a lot of the alt right people that wanted to go over to fight were getting rejected by the embassy.

If they could access their USD reserves it wouldn't be such a big deal. US very likely will default on debt payments during Trump's second term. There will be a budget fight, dems will not back down, and GOP will let us default so they can blame them for the economic fallout. Came close twice so far, once with Obama, and once with Trump from this happening from the GOP not caring if we default or not, as they think the US defaulting will be great for their party.

Dems should give Alaska to Russia. Do not want to risk WWIII now do we? DC can replace them to maintain the 50 state norm.
///
Multi-million dollar campaign coming to oppose Russia sanctions from the right wing mega-donors who decided not to give up their Russia assets. Expect a lot of people to radically change what they been saying and to embrace Putin in coming days. Those that do not, will not be getting the cash they need to run for reelection. Notes for the right are to say the invasion in the Ukraine is just a smokescreen that Dems are using to distract from a similar invasion being waged in America on the Southern border, and we should not sanction Russia until we sanction the states invading us, and we should not send them any money until we build the wall. Keystone pipeline will be revived as well to promote lowering gas prices. And gas companies may very well lock gas prices at high rates to force an international pipeline.

Senator Fitzpatrick [r] wants to know why the US cannot use enforce a no-fly zone over the Ukraine using "sonar-radar." While he says there is a risk of this technology falling into enemy hands, its use here would be justifiable to stop Russia from being able to fly planes over the Ukraine. He also said that using EMPs would be a viable option to deter Russian from flying planes over the Ukraine without doing anything that could constitute an act of war.
Yep. Maybe we should not be letting congress weigh in here. An EMP is definitely an act of war, and an airblast will crash every plane in the area, and likely kill everyone in them. Pretty sure Russia already knows the secrets of radar technology given they used it in fucking World War II.

This is the first time since the Cold War the threat of a war in Europe has been on the radar. US is showing everyone that we may not come to their aid, so they perhaps should not rely on us for their military might.

Is WW3 even a realistic scenario? I know we're told it is.. but is it really?
China may be boys with Russia, but surely (and I'm waiting for a hyperbolic response stating China will kill everyone in a blink of an eye if given the opportunity) China has too much riding on international trade, it's super-ecomony, etc to throw it all away over a war started in a shithole like Ukraine. And Russia, for an apparently Nuclear power with an army of apparently millions, the Russian are currently being tested by a country of wheat and potato farmers lead by a comedian.
Is Russia even capable of fighting.. the entire free world?
Or is the " we don't want to start WW3 " an easy opt out of actually getting involved?

What we mean we do not want WWIII is the US saying they are afraid of war with China. We do not give a fuck about Russia, but China the US cannot win a war against as there are simply too many people and they have a stronger wartime production capacity.
Since we cannot beat them by sheer force, that means we will have to be willing to engage in absolute war and nuke them. The sole way to counter this situation is engaging in first strike, or attacking before war is declared. So the US needs to make damn sure we do not give China any reason to think we are getting involved else they decide to take no chances and just nuke us.
Russia is not entirely making a mistake either. They are in a situation referred to in game theory as Chainstore paradox, which is mathematically complicated but shows that it is mathematically better when faced with multiple competitors to face them all aggressively at first before showing any deterrence. This sort of probability theory was very popular in the former USSR and likely is informing Putin decision making.

Noise from political circles is the GOP will push for WWIII in coming days as a way to portray Biden and Congressional Democrats as weak going into the election. The bet is if they go hard enough, they will get significant political gains, and the situation in Russia will have resolved itself before the US is brought into an active role in this conflict. The danger is, if they do go all in, they will be calling for war with Russia, and China if needed. Then they will take political power. The expectation is they can do this and have no international consequences if they use the media, as thus far, there have really been no international consequences for any other time they have done this. But there is a very real chance they may work themselves into a shoot.

Where's the battleground c - or are we destined to see the US & China just nuke each other into oblivion? Again, what good does that do? Everything gained in the last 76 years since the end of WW2 for both sides is lost. Beijing = gone, the American West Coast, at a minimum = gone. Potentially a generation of civilians = gone. No one wants this despite what war-hawks and keyboard assassins think.
