When would one country taking over other countries become an issue? It depends on how much oil it has. No, that's not true... is it? I have a controversial point to make here - ethnicity and culture arguably plays a role. Case in point, The United States, The UK, Western Europe and Australia/NZ are geographical worlds a part, but we are ethnically and culturally very similar and hence the relationships politically - our values and ideology for the most, are the same or similar. Furthermore, as The West, we are completely indifferent to the thousands of wars and conflicts that have engulfed Africa for decades. We don't care. For example, look to The Sudanese Civil War - Is anyone talking about it? No, not really. The Middle East the same, we are indifferent for the most. Despite these conflicts extending beyond the history class talking points, we weren't talking about The Middle East anywhere near as passionatly as we do today until a group of similar peoples were suddenly in the crosshair. Even Western and Eastern Europe are very different ethnically and culturally. So in short, when one of us is threatened or attacked, that's when it becomes an issue. Until then, it just someone else's war in someone else's country.

NATO is an anti Russia coalition, moving bases closer to the border of Russia presents a threat to them and they are responding. Whether they would have done it anyway is up for debate... But there is a direct connection between NATO expansion and Russia moving into Ukraine. Russia has well advertised red lines and NATO crossed them.

Kennedy went to the very brink of nuclear war to stop Russia placing an offensive capability in Cuba. How is Putin's response to an expanding NATO force any different? Again, Putin is a piece of shit but he was pretty clear from the outset how he felt about NATO expansion. It's also clear that Biden has brageed about expanding NATO which was Putin's red line... None of these things are up for debate. We can argue if Putin's response is proportional, but his reasoning is clearly on the record.... For whatever reason the Western media refuses to report it.

This isn’t purely because of NATO. That’s where you’re being disingenuous, and IMO, justifying Putin’s invasion, He has gone on record saying Ukraine doesn’t deserve to exist. This war has been going for a decade. The invasion is the most recent escalation, and he’s using NATO as a scapegoat, when NATO’s “encroaching” on Russia’s was in response to their aggression dating back to annexing Crimea. In terms of why the media are not reporting it?
