I feel like I’ve come to the realisation I enjoy Tyler, The Creator as a personality than a music artist. I’ve bought all his albums up until this point with me not really listening to them more than once.
I just found Igor a chore to listen to, which is odd as I like a lot of albums it’s clearly influenced by. Not for me.
Tyler & Earl both disappointing lately 😭

Weisses Fleisch - Rammstein 8. When Doves Cry - Prince 9. Kiss on My List - Hall & Oates (My happy song) 10. Goodbye - Glenn Morrison 11. Closer - The Chainsmokers 12. Someday - Nickleback 13. Buck dich - Rammstein 14. Chandelier - Sia 15. Gangsta - Kehlani 16. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse 17. DEUTSCHLAND - Rammstein 18. Cry me a River - JT 19. Say it Right - Nelly Furtado (my jam) 20. Fragile Bird - City and Color 21. Du Hast - Rammstein 22. Crazy in Love - Beyonce 23. Dark Horse - Katy Perry 24. The Hills - The Weeknd 25. The Chauffeur - Duran Duran
Some of these I have to question as I haven't listened to them in a long while, but I find I tend to listen to more 'dance' stuff in the summer time. Very weird there's not any Heart or Fleetwood Mac as I listen to them quite a bit.

I've always heavily preferred Earl to Tyler, but Igor is in that Brockhampton zone for me where I can just play it over and over and not get sick of, whereas SRS was alright for what it was but not an album I've gone back to since it came out.

A lot of early Outkast tonight, Aquemini and ATLiens in particular. So fucking good; there's a lot of great modern rap that gets overlooked but 90's hip hop is still king in my book. In honor of the new Wu-Tang show on Hulu I'm planning on revisiting every album until it debuts in September as well, starting with 36 Chambers tonight.
Been listening to a lot of 70's dad rock that my literal dad used to wake me up with in the summer during my teen years to stop me from sleeping the day away. I hated it then, but ironically, I love it now. Namely Electric Light Orchestra, but pretty much anything from the Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2 soundtrack. I also have some newfound respect for Billy Joel, he has some amazing tunes.
Discovering how kickass bands like Built to Spill and Pavement really are, having never given either a fair listen in the past.
Also heard Idles for the first time watching a Tiny Desk Concert on Youtube. If you haven't seen it, watch the Sesame Street performance before, then Idles. The contrast alone makes for a stellar viewing.

Saturday morning I stumbled upon a video of a young Australian lady playing the Cali-Roots festival this year named Tash Sultana. Never heard of her before but the video just had my fucking jaw on the floor, mind blown. She plays all the instruments herself and she's AMAZING on the guitar. She keeps the crowd in the palm of her hand throughout the whole set playing by herself, it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen she's literally all I've been listening to since I seen it:

Been getting down on Bob Marley's 1960's recordings here lately, this is like the pre-history of his music where he released a lot of albums/singles in Jamaica before they got big internationally in the 70's(they re-recorded a lot of his 60's songs for his major label releases).
I dig a lot of these versions better than the redux versions on his major label albums. The best song that has been stuck in my head is Mellow Mood. "I can play your favorite song... darlin'... We can rock it all night long... darlin'"

A few days ago I was all about the new Sabaton album.
Then it was all Iron Maiden in anticipation of last night's concert (Great show! Storytime later?).
I'm turning into a 2 band wonder and I am totally ok with that.

Yo Baker man I sent you some Winterhawk songs did you get my mesage? You're about to become a 3 band wonder. But yes please share with us the Iron Maiden story. Presumably it was the same show I saw this time last year. Phenomenal. Whoops! Somehow I missed your message. Wisdom is another one of those middling 5/10 'just there' bands. I don't hate 'em or anything but, with one exception, I'd never go out of my way to listen to any of their non-Joakim songs. Haven't checked out Winterhawk yet. Ask and ye shall receive.... I've Got One Ticket To Iron Maiden, BabySo last night's Iron Maiden concert was my first live show in almost 12 years to the day. My last concert being Rush on 7/23/07 at the same suburban DC outdoor venue. Seeing Maiden live was really my only thing left on my music Bucket List. So I can cross that off the list now.
DC traffic was predictably terrible. Luckily I had Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son handy to help pass the time. I left around 4:30 and didn't enter the venue until 7:30ish when the opening act (Raven Age, I think they were called) was playing. I did not pay much attention to Raven Age. Instead I wandered around the venue peoplewatching and trying to find a concession/merch stand with a line under 100 people. Security was thankfully lax. Nobody even checked my ticket and some dude would later light a joint right beside me with no problems. More than half the crowd was wearing Iron Maiden shirts. Isn't this bad concert etiquette? Or is that not really a thing anymore? Hopefully not. It was a stupid thing anyway. Fwiw I was wearing my 2005 Europe tour shirt, which was my go to concert shirt back when I went to concerts semi regularly. I did not get a Maiden shirt last night due the high prices. Good grief! My dudes cleaned up last night with a good portion of the crowd buying their $40-$75 t-shirts. Bruce claimed there were 15,000 people in attendance. A quick search reveals the Jiffy Lube Pavilion can hold 25,000. So Bruce's 15,000 seems plausible. Crowd ranged from children under 10 to 60 year old lifelong metalheads. Not nearly as many longhairs as I'd expect at a Maiden show. Perhaps they are like me in that they were once longhairs who are now follically challenged? There were also more women than I was expecting. They probably made up about 30-40% of the crowd. Most of the popular metal bands were represented in t-shirt form. I saw 2 Sabaton shirts. My favorite was the 50+ year old metalhead rocking the Saxon shirt. Please be my uncle! A surprising amount of non-metal band shirts were also worn. I even saw one guy in a Bullet Club shirt. I like this outdoor venue. Of course, it was a rather mild summer day by Mid Atlantic standards. There is a seating section in front of the stage and a much larger grass section atop a big hill. I was in the grass section. Pre-show songs included some Dio, Whitesnake, and Motley Crue (who were also well represented in shirt form). The crowd came alive when Doctor Doctor (Maiden's intro song) played over the PA system. Maiden exploded on stage around 9 pm, going straight into Aces High without any intro or frippery. A fine way to kick off the proceedings. They followed that up with Where Eagles Dare. This was a bit wonky. I forget the details but Bruce either skipped a verse or sang it out of order  Still cool though. Then came 2 Minutes To Midnight. So we're 3 for 3 thus far. Oh, all the songs had backstage scenery to match and Bruce changing outfits like he was Macho Man at Wrestlemania IV. There were also big video screens on each side of the stage so us cheapos in the grass could clearly see what was happening onstage. 10/10 showmanship. I'll admit 90s Maiden is a bit of a weak spot for me. I never really listened to their 90s stuff all that much. Yet they played a decent amount of their 90s songs last night, with Fear of the Dark possibly being the most well received song of the entire night. I was a bit lost on those songs. So I guess I'll have to revisit 90s Iron Maiden. Few people bought the false finish after Iron Maiden (the song). Iron Maiden (the band) came back a few minutes after the tease to wrap it up with the trifecta of The Evil That Men Do, Hallowed Be Thy Name (my personal favorite Maiden song), and Run To The Hills. The show wrapped up around 10:30. Here is the setlist www.setlist.fm/setlist/iron-maiden/2019/jiffy-lube-live-bristow-va-139e1d2d.htmlBruce was 10/10 in showmanship but seemed a little off at times, with Where Eagles Dare being the biggest example. Somebody online claimed he has a cold. Steve and the guitarists were clearly having the time of their lives, running and prancing around like maniacs 30 years younger, while being ridiculous on their instruments. Nicko was sporting some 10/10 rocker hair and facially looks like 20 years younger than the rest of the rather haggard looking band. The crowd's (or at least the grass section's) favorite songs were Fear of the Dark and Run To The Hills, but every single song was well received. My personal favorites last night were Number of the Beast (which I totally undersold in the 80s Rock Song tournament just because it's not Hallowed Be Thy Name) and Run To The Hills. In true Baker fashion it took me at least an hour to find my car  I knew this was going to happen and wasn't even mad. Getting out was going to take an hour anyway what with all the traffic. In the midst of looking for my lost vehicle I came across some venue employees. One thing lead to another and some dude drove me around in a golf cart to find my car. It was a little embarrassing. Guy was super cool though. Plus he had a rocker look. The drive home took over 2 hours (My phone says it should have taken about 1 hour 34 minutes) because the geniuses in DC think it's a good idea to close 3 highway lanes at the same time. Good grief! But I had more Maiden albums to keep me company. So it was all good. I didn't get home until 2 a.m. Glad I took off work today. I'd have been dead going in at 5 or 6 a.m. I took some pics and video but the quality is terrible so I will probably not be sharing them. Most of the show is already up on Youtube anyway if you're interested. Final Thoughts- Great show! Definitely recommended. But not THE best. That's still Europe in 2005. Small Venue > Big Venue. We'll do this again when I see Sabaton in November at a small venue. Until then, \m/:rockin: \m/

Instead I wandered around the venue peoplewatching and trying to find a concession/merch stand with a line under 100 people. Security was thankfully lax. Nobody even checked my ticket and some dude would later light a joint right beside me with no problems. This is so bizarre to me. I've had tickets checked at every single show I've been to, from the smallest shittiest clubs to the huge arenas. Arenas in particular have huge security, no big bags allowed, small bags searched upon entry. I figured America would have an even stricter level of anti-terrorism vigilance. Guess not. More than half the crowd was wearing Iron Maiden shirts. Isn't this bad concert etiquette? Or is that not really a thing anymore? Hopefully not. It was a stupid thing anyway.Fwiw I was wearing my 2005 Europe tour shirt, which was my go to concert shirt back when I went to concerts semi regularly. I did not get a Maiden shirt last night due the high prices. Good grief! My dudes cleaned up last night with a good portion of the crowd buying their $40-$75 t-shirts. I don't think it was ever bad etiquette to wear the shirt of the band you're seeing. As you say, it's stupid. If I own a shirt of the band I'm seeing, you're damn right I'm wearing that shirt. I got the tour shirt because the artwork is super awesome. £20 it cost, which is a standard price for a band shirt. I like this outdoor venue. Of course, it was a rather mild summer day by Mid Atlantic standards. There is a seating section in front of the stage and a much larger grass section atop a big hill. I was in the grass section. OK, this might explain the lax security. It was an outdoor show?! I don't understand this. Not a stadium, they just set up a stage in a field or something? Like a European music festival? I'll admit 90s Maiden is a bit of a weak spot for me. I never really listened to their 90s stuff all that much. Yet they played a decent amount of their 90s songs last night, with Fear of the Dark possibly being the most well received song of the entire night. I was a bit lost on those songs. So I guess I'll have to revisit 90s Iron Maiden.  Fear of the Dark is possibly the most popular live Iron Maiden song. It's one of their only great 90s songs. As far as I remember they played one or two songs from the Blaze Bayley era. Sign of the Cross and something else. Few people bought the false finish after Iron Maiden (the song). What the fuck?! I constantly wonder why bands even bother with an encore because it's a dumb pointless routine that everybody has long understood as being a fake exit. Apparently not in America... Bruce was on fire on vocals when I saw them on the same tour last year. He barely made any mistakes, and was far more powerful than the previous two times I saw Maiden. It was an indoor arena show, and they had all the stage sets and bells and whistles. Did they fly out a model spitfire during Aces High? For me it was the second best metal show I've ever seen. I didn't think it would be topped until I saw Nightwish last December in the same arena. I've been going to metal shows frequently for over 10 years, and the two best shows I've seen took place in 2018. Pretty freaky.

Awesome Baker . I've paid for motel and tickets for a concert in Houston this Sunday night, it's a done deal. This will be my first concert since Ozzfest 2004! Finally going to see Tribal Seeds, probably my favorite band for the past 6 years, also excited about seeing Hirie she's amazing. I got tickets to see Tribal Seeds with Hirie back 6 years ago in Dallas but ended up not being able to go, now I'm finally going to a show. It starts at 4 so I'm going to take my shirt off and get some sun and smoke big spliffs, it's going to be a fucking jam. This is the venue: Not all that crazy about the headliner Slightly Stoopid but they got a couple of good songs, I really like this one.

I've paid for motel and tickets for a concert in Houston this Sunday night, it's a done deal. This will be my first concert since Ozzfest 2004! Nice. Have fun! It's cool that us old timers are going to concerts again. Emperor I have no idea how to multiquote but I'll do my best to respond to everything you wrote. Yeah, I was shocked they didn't check my ticket. I'm glad you told me this was an anomaly because I was tempted to start showing up at every semi interesting local concert with no ticket to see if I could sneak in They did have us empty our pockets and walk through one of those courtroom style metal detectors. I suppose I'd have been patted down if it beeped. But there was no beep and I swear they did not check for my ticket. Another thing I learned yesterday is tailgating has supposedly been banned at this venue since 2011. Yet I can assure you there was much pre and post show tailgating the other day. So that's another rule they thankfully don't enforce. Fwiw my group of 5 or 6 tailgated when I saw Rush at this venue some 12 years ago. I was told by veteran concert goers in the early 2000s that it was fashion faux pas to wear a shirt of the band you are seeing. Maybe this was a US only thing? Or maybe I got trolled? I dunno. Anyway, I thought this was an idiotic idea, and it naturally had the opposite effect on my contrarian self. I'd make a point to wear a shirt of the band I was seeing just to be That Guy. I didn't care how nerdy it supposedly was. 20 pounds converts to about $25, which was the going rate for shirts when I went to concerts back in the day. So Maiden was definitely way high on their merch pricing. The venue is indeed outdoor. There is a permanent stage. In front of the stage is a seating section. Behind the seating section is a big grassy hill. I guess this is weird? I think it's a pretty cool venue so long as the weather is nice. It's used for concerts and local graduation ceremonies. It's also sort of in the middle of nowhere. It was common in the US from the 70s through the 90s to build stadiums, arenas, and concert venues in middle of nowhere suburbs. This is definitely such an example. Washington DC isn't too far away but the venue itself is the only notable thing in the immediate vicinity. It's surrounded by emptiness. The 90s songs they played the other night were Fear of the Dark, The Clansman, and Sign of the Cross. It's possible that the very few people leaving during the false finish were just trying to beat the traffic. I can't imagine anybody legitimately falling for it. They did have the model spitfire for Aces and a prop (plus Bruce wardrobe change) for just about every song- oversized noose for Hallowed, giant light up cross for Sign of the Cross, etc. Bruce also swung around a giant sword(!) during Clansman. ----------------------- So! Maiden is coming to Philly on Tuesday. I can totally do that. Probably not going unless I can get my one real life Iron Maiden fan friend to come with me. We shall see..... EDIT: Just found out one of the members of opening act, The Raven Age, is Steve Harris' son.

Re: encores, the best one was Pantera when I seen them when I was 16 in their hometown finale, they came back out and played something I can't remember, maybe two songs. Crowd stayed and kept cheering after the first encore, everybody was clapping on the seats in front of them making a to of noise. Massive pop when they came back out and played a second encore, they played This Love and Dime fucking killed the solo it was the best moment of the whole night I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

I have no idea what this "tailgating" thing is. Grilling in the parking lot before a sporting event or concert. It got the name tailgating because many folks will sit in the tailgate of their truck and drink beer while the food is on the grill. Most universities have entire areas set aside for tailgating. Great times.

one of the greatest country albums 1st song to the last Been listening through George's albums on Amazon music all summer. It's crazy how many he made, 1 sometimes 2 every single year since like 1982. I couldn't pick a favorite but I really have always loved Pure Country soundtrack and have really grown to love his debut album. Dean Dillon is the man who wrote most of George's best songs and to me he's the best songwriter, Her Goodbye Hit Me In The Heart is so beautiful.

I used to think George Strait sounded generic. Then I realized it was because everyone and their mother was ripping off George's sound in the 90's

One of my favorite playlists on my Amazon is my George Strait playlist, I combed through his albums and put together all my favorite songs, 65 songs clocking in at 3 hours and 27 minutes, it's my biggest playlist for any single artist and I have a bunch. I have 5 songs from that album Bodyslam posted but 6 tracks from his debut.
Some of my favorites lesser known tracks, definitely recommend checking these out if you haven't heard them:
That's My Kind Of Woman Her Goodbye Hit Me In The Heart Let It Go Blue Melodies Texas Take Me To Texas
And Easy Come Easy Go and Nobody In His Right Mind are two of my favorite songs ever wrote. George can sing the songs better than the people who wrote them but to me the remarkable thing is that you got to have some legit mileage on your heart and soul to be able to write those songs. Dean Dillon is a genius songwriter definitely look him up if you don't already know about him.
