This George Strait talk is taking me back. I'll admit I couldn't think of a single George Strait song off the top of my head just now despite country being my genre of choice in the early-mid 90s, but a quick Google search reveals some good "THAT songs." Maybe I'll do a George Strait deep dive next time I'm on a country music kick.
Speaking of kicks, I am still upping the irons. Last 10!
Iron Maiden- To Tame A Land Iron Maiden- Empire of the Clouds Iron Maiden- Children of the Damned Iron Maiden- Alexander The Great Iron Maiden- Rime of the Ancient Mariner Iron Maiden- Dance of Death Iron Maiden- Paschendale Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast Iron Maiden- Hallowed Be Thy Name Iron Maiden- Empire of the Clouds ("new" Top 10 Maiden song. Parts of it actually remind me of Harry Chapin at his most epic)

Since we've been talking about country, here's a great tune from one of the GOATS.

Finding out shinobimusashi, is a fan of George Strait is shocking, but awesome as fuck as well. Speaking of Shin, I've been listening to The War Within from Shadows Fall, ever since he posted it in his countdown thread. Of course, that led me down the road to a song called The Ghost of Vincent Price by Wednesday 13, and eventually checking out the whole Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead album as well.

Watching the VMA’s as a good reminder of just how far out of the mainstream I am. I had never heard of Lizzo though I now kind of love her. Not so much the music, but the personality is a winner.

The VMAs is nothing but a musical landfill. And MTV wants to talk about this being the year of inclusiveness. I understand that, but they should also apply that to musical genres. The lack of rock being represented is repulsive and appalling. And any rock they decide to show, isn't even rock at all.
MTV's definition of "rock" today is just pop with inaudible guitars.

Why would rock n roll want to be associated with the VMAs in the first place? MTV stands for everything the genre is supposed to rebel against and while MTV may have catered more towards them in the wake of the alternative boom in the early to mid 90s it's bread and butter was always pop music.
It's like having a go at the rock n roll hall of fame for not recognising the talents of Miley or Iggy.

In a world where music is as fragmented as ever, I can’t really blame MTV for going with the pop/r&b route, it’s where the biggest group of fans in the demo they want are. It’s not like they’re playing country music either.
I didn’t know any of the music I saw on the show last night watching bits and pieces and that’s ok. More music the merrier.

New Stick Figure album released last week is blowing up in reggae right now. This band went from being a show opener to headlining festivals now probably the hottest reggae band going. I listened to the album today and it's the best reggae album I've heard in probably 5 years(which is saying something, there have been some great ones) it's beautiful from start to finish, masterpiece.
album of the year

I've been jammin World On Fire non stop since it came out. So awesome seeing the ascension of Stick Figure this year. This album has cracked the top 15 on Itunes(it's at 13) and the top reggae songs is almost all Stick Figure songs right now. World On Fire is so damn good, it's like over 70 minutes long and all killer no filler, most reggae albums are 35-45 minutes, I've been obsessed with this album, it's really something special.

Been rocking out to some Queensryche ever since my post yesterday. Very underrated band. Emperor should listen to them and get back to me. I went through a major Queensryche phase this past December/January, never did get into them before but I became obsessed with Jet City Woman, unbelievable song. Their guitar player is excellent.

I went through a major Queensryche phase this past December/January, never did get into them before but I became obsessed with Jet City Woman, unbelievable song. Their guitar player is excellent. Nice. Agreed on their guitar player (Chris DeGarmo). That dude could shred. Their lead singer (Geoff Tate) is also one of the greats. I'd put him in that next tier behind Joey f'n Tempest, Bruce, Dio, Mercury, Halford, Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, and maybe the guy from Steelheart. So, like, 8th or 9th greatest of all time. Not bad. Operation Mindcrime is Queensryche's masterpiece. Just a classic heavy metal album with no skippable songs. Imagine it would be a Top 50 lock if I ever got around to doing a Nobi-style album countdown (which I have no intention of doing). Anyway, I'm off the 'Ryche and back on to Cromagnon (yes!) and Comus. aka: my two favorite musical discoveries from early 2019.

Nice, I would rate Geoff Tate as the best metal vocalist and surely in my top 10 of all time.

Baker, I have listened to Queensryche but I never understood the hype. Savatage and Fates Warning did it better, but admittedly their singers aren't as good.
I'm going through a prog metal phase of discovery and rediscovery right now, so I'm open to Queensryche recommendations. Anything besides Operation Mindcrime because people talk about that like it's the only thing they've ever done.

The Warning is solid as well, but sound a bit too much like Iron Maiden for me. It was before Queensryche really nailed down their sound.
