Terrible marking for both goals really. Shame because US is winning possession but then in the back half of the Dutch, they have no ideas on how to create and not try and get through the wall NED have setup in the middle.
Reyna needed to start for this one but Berhalter wants to be stubborn. US have to attack from outside but they can't string the passes to do so and then defensively they are just napping both times.
Promise shown in the first half but two lapses means down 2-0 and that's about it.

Amateur marking amateur.
Three lazy undisciplined lapses ruins an energized effort even with lackluster polish in the final third.

CONCACAF as a whole, just outright sucks on the World stage.

CONCACAF as a whole, just outright sucks on the World stage. US is a young side but with that mistakes were made. US needed a better conditioning for this tourney though. Half of the games were gassed by second half. Also need a stud finisher, shame those don't grow on trees.

CONCACAF is the federation fighting hardest for football’s popularity. On most (all?) of the other continents football is the number one sport. North America? Not even close. Nothing to be embarrassed about. US played well, even today, they just found themselves 2-0 down quickly against a team with a lot of quality. Many positives to look at for the USA.

US and Canada I agree but from Mexico downward(Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica) football/soccer is number one. Mexico's problem is they think they are a equivalent to a South American side when they lack the finish and coaching to make it feel like they're close to everybody else in CONCACAF. Costa Rica is just an old product, they got as far as the Quarters few WC's ago credit to them but they need to usher in some youth, even at the cost of immediate results.

Australia have been pretty solid in the first half but one moment by Messi was enough to give them a lead. Our defensive structure was very strong and made the game uneventful apart from that, but now we’re going to have to go to plan B at some point and go after an equaliser.

What the hell was that by Matty Ice Ryan the keeper?
It's insane the heart AUS show, down 2-0, how they refuse to give in and allow themselves to be on the highlight reels for the Argentinians is beyond me. Damn shame about the keeper gaff, should be 1-1.
AUS had so many chances at the very end, I just love their all out attack at the very end, yeah Argentina had some chances to make it 3-1 but you have to appreciate a team trying to go after it till the very end. The kid at the very end just needed to aim it a little higher albeit that was a fantastic save by the Argentina keeper.

Good effort by Australia. I really thought they were gonna tie it up there at the end.
Can’t complain about the excitement of both games today. At least for me.
Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Argentina defence collapsed mightily at the end, I really wanted to see that aggression of Australia rewarded. Great effort by the Aussies honestly, thought this would be a complete domination, and after the lobsided possession of the 1st half, I thought it was leaning that way.

A lot easier to come to terms with that elimination than against Italy in 06, but there is definitely a tinge of what could have been. If only Martinez was a second slower to cover, Behich might scored an all time type goal. Still can’t but feel anything but super proud.

Terrific effort from the Australians.
Three more games for Messi to do it. I really hope he can.

I had little hope for us against the Dutch but 3 goals? Would have been a shutout had we not gotten lucky at the 75 mark.
Pretty sad that the Aussies put up more of a fight against the GOAT than we did against international soccer's version of the Atlanta Falcons.

Seeing two sides today just look great, France, particularly Mbappe are fantastic and England look great too. Was letdown by their performance vs US thinking that might be all she wrote but this 1st half they look great vs Senegal.

I haaaate penalties. Especially in games like that where there were multiple chances going both ways. Just let them play until someone scores.
I understand that it’s a physically taxing game and you run the risk of players running themselves to death, or the game going for 8 hours without a goal, but like really what are the chances that happens? Just let them play.
Allow for more subs as extra time progresses and allow for rested players to come back on as the game goes long. Like if you sub out in the first extra time you can sub back on in the next one if it goes that far, but then if you sub off again you’re done. Something like that.
Hockey is just as physically taxing and they only do shootouts in the regular season. Playoffs are too important.

Some of the worst defending I’ve ever seen in my life. What are the Koreans doing? It’s suicidal.

Guardiola’s strong side overload has been misinterpreted so badly by Spanish football, they’ve cultivated a generation of players who are taught passing is everything. No urgency, no movement, no real striker. There’s no contrast in the team at all, except for a bit of pace from Williams and a bit of size in Morata.
The Moroccans were fancied before the tournament to do quite well in some bits I’d read. They’re solid at the back and good in transition, well suited to these hard pitches where precision passing is difficult.

I got a feeling Morocco's gonna finally give up some goals to Portugal when they meet.
Amazing that they're performing like this, when Ronaldo's on the bench.
