I played football for years and watched for many more , like three decades worth and never have I seen something like this. I’ve witnessed ambulances on the field and some brutal hits and moments of terror for players but never did I think I’d see CPR being administered on the field because a players heart stopped - all from what looked like a pretty innocuous hit. Scary stuff , props for the teams for initially taking matters into their own hands and props for finally suspending the game. It can be resumed tomorrow. Give the guys a night off and some peace of mind that *hopefully* Hamlin is going to be okay.

Depends. Critical can mean a plethora of things in terms of survival - obviously not best case scenario but if they got him stabilized then it’s at least a positive sign.

They worked on him on the field for 9 minutes. If it took that long to get his heart started that’s long enough for severe brain damage or worse.

Apparently him being intubated at the hospital is standard procedure for anyone that receives CPR regardless of them breathing or not. Intubation ensures their airway is open and they can administer certain medications with it as well.

This is still really bad news but unfortunately we don’t know anything new right now.

God I hope he pulls through. I assume his heart stopped when he got hit in the chest. Fucking crazy.

Apparently his vitals are normalized.

9 minutes is a long time without getting CPR but seeing as how they were able to respond that quickly it as least provides some optimism that he can pull through.

ESPN just reported that the medical staff have informed reporters that there will be no conference or update tonight. So either they don't know what is going to happen in the coming hours or things are rapidly changing and any updates tonight will just be different in the morning.

That's insane. There was a clean tackle/hit. It was just a freak accident. I feel bad for Higgins. I can't imagine how he must feel even though IMO 100% not his fault.

Hopefully Hamlin survives the situation, and goes on to at least live a healthy life (whether he plays again or not). With video by Dr. Sutterer explaining what occurred, it's a scary thing to see happen.

I think the options are to continue play on a later date or end the game in a tie. I think they’ll go with the latter. There is a third option but I can’t for the life of me remember what it is.

I just saw a report that says Commish will make a decision on whether to reschedule today sometime. It has to be rescheduled for the next two days if it is.

They probably flew back to Buffalo because they never planned on spending the night there and trying to find hotel accommodations for 53 players + dozens of staff members at 11pm at night would be way harder than just flying the 90 minutes home.

And yeah, apparently the game has to be played tonight or tomorrow night or they have to look at other options. From what I’ve read there is an option to add a week 19 for the two teams to play and that would just give all the playoff teams a bye week before they start.

Probability says that at least the Bills will have something to play for. But I don’t see the week 19 scenario because it’s punishing the two teams to make them potentially the only teams in the playoffs without a bye and also potentially gives the 1 seeds two weeks off.

At the point the league decided not to reschedule this week, I think they gave up the chance to play it.y guess is they’ll call it a tie/no contest and move on. It’ll punish the Bills by giving the Chiefs the lead for home field and the bye and give the Bengals the AFC North and probably lock them into the 3 seed. But there’s not a particularly good way to resolve this that didn’t involve resuming the game today or tomorrow.

To be fair, the Bengals were about to smoke the Bills last night. Burrow looked unstoppable. Josh Allen looked great too until he got in the red zone and then looked like crap again. If anything it saved the Bills “contender look”.

Chiefs deserve the 1 seed. Mahomes deserves the MVP.

For this game, I don't understand why things are so difficult. The Bangles were winning so give them the game. The Bills would still have a chance at the #1 seed if the other teams lose, they'll be back on top. Rescheduling at this point of the season is not only impossible but unfair as fuck to both teams that already have no desire to play the game. So why throw the entire league in disarray over a game that would make players relieve this nightmare? an occurrence like this is unprecedented. Why not make the football part of this easier instead of more difficult? fuck!!!! who knows if the Bills would want to play at all until they know that Damar Hamlin is fully recovered. I hope Damar pulls through.
