That word confuses me because every time I see it I think they are leaving. Re-signing is clear. Is it just a British thing where "resigning" means to give up or quit?

They signed new contracts. Likely for three or four years, and given their performances and starpower in AEW, likely at good pay.

With them staying, far more likely Punk returns too.

Combine Re (back) and Signare (seal/sign) and you get resignare which would be take back the seal, or signing. So resign.

But can also combine Re (repeat) and Signare (sign/seal) and get resignare again, but this time it means sign again which is also resign.

The words are the same word written but have two different pronunciations, and in this case the meanings are opposites. Out of habit from translating latin for my language requirements, I use resign, over re-sign, since the translation stuff preferred that one, but re-sign likely the better one to use.

Interesting. I always thought it was re-sign. But I’m Canadian and we bastardize both American and UK English so..

Brian Cage re-signed too. Guess that’s why The Embassy retained the six-man titles and are now being pushed with Strickland & Co.

Billie Starkz also signed a contract. Good times for AEW it seems.

Cage I think reached out to WWE and was told about the block to new signings and realized he was stuck.

Cool story. Would you rather be technically correct or have people understand you? Colloquially, resign vs re-sign is left vs signed again. Language evolves

No, it's just as unnecessarily confusing on this side of the pond as well.

Figured would not be a problem here to use resign that way, since wrestlers do not resign they ask for release. Sorry guys.

You are right about the words. It should have a dash in it. But there is still like a 90% I wouldn't have used the dash either so I can't throw stones.

Rumor is we get big news on Punk tomorrow. Which will likely be a non-story, but who knows.

Really think if Tony wants to do Wembley, he has to bring Punk. Love him or hate him, people will pay to see him.  And while people want FTR and Punk vs Elite, FTR and Punk vs House of Black for the trios titles would be a banger and allow Omega to work Willy.

I hope the big punk news is they comw to a mutual agreement on his release

It's cool, but every time I see that word on PW I have to do a double take, and I guess this was the moment when I tired of doing double takes :lol:

Also more context: "resign" is the word you use when you surrender a chess game, so that meaning is stuck in my brain even more than the average person.

AEW is close to resigning Bucks and Omega. Their contracts should expire before WWE is sold so it is either resign or resign (<,<) until after the WWE sale to see what they offer. Likely if they do this, Tony will remove the EVP titles from them though.

Also Jeff is not entirely cleared to wrestle.  His eye is still healing up.  AEW again playing loose with medical stuff.  But that is why his eye is still looking so fucked up.

FTR are an awesome old school Tag team, I absolutely love them.
