It's the off-season for more than half the league and the Seahawks have already released a bombshell: Pete Carroll is out as head coach and moving to a senior advisor role.
I'm surprised but given he is moving up to the front office, I guess it was time. He only had a year option left on his contract and with the team needing more talent and depth on the roster in order to move back into a regular playoff team, it seems that now would be the best time to get a new coach in so the rebuild can truly continue.
So long, Grandpa Pete. It's been a pleasure.

Good news is I don’t have to see him chewing his stupid bubble gum and his stupid grin look of his face from the sidelines anymore.

It’s kinda surprising but it was matter of time. This sums it up perfectly. It'll be sad for Seattle fans because he's obviously been a legendary coach for them but at the end of the day he's a defensive coach who has had a disappointing defence for many years now, despite spending a lot of resources. They would have made the playoffs comfortably if they even had an average defence this season.

Shocked QAnon Rodgers lasted as long as he did on the McAfee show and I Knew once Disney/ABC bought the McAfee show via ESPN, that the time was about to be over. Aaron Rodgers is anti-vax/big pharma so it was a matter of time before the conflict of interest would meet.
The womanizing hypocrite Kimmel won and I get it since he's one of the ABC's top stars. I am anti cancel culture but I get McAfee's decision, he doesn't want the show to become the "Anti-Left" show which is what Rodgers somewhat had the show become.
QAnon Rodgers just has to get far away from football and just be ready to lead the good guys to the glory. Go to Peru or wherever and get high or what you gotta do.

Honestly I would’ve let him coach a 25th season just to say he coached 25 years but that’s my OCD.
Still the greatest HC of all time who did so much with guys who would’ve never made it on any other team. I loved to cheer against him and am interested to see where he goes from here. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he retired, but I don’t think he wants to just sit back and settle down. He wants the record.

Man if he goes to Atlanta it’s going to feel like Emmitt on the Cardinals or Jerry to the Seahawks. Hopefully he goes somewhere that matters.

Emmitt had a really bad year in Arizona in 03 but I really liked him on that 2004 team that was an underrated season/performance as far as washed up old free agents playing for oddball teams. Also when you consider all the Cowboys fans in Arizona it kinda made sense.

My post from 2018 about Vrabel taking the Titans job:
Something about a coordinator taking a job with a division rival just doesn’t sit well with me, particularly Texans staff leaving for the Titans of all teams. You take with you all kinds of inside info about the team. I have a conspiracy theory that O’Brien helped trash the team on purpose to help him like Callahan did for Gruden in that Super Bowl. Vrabel had a pretty great record against us those years after the shithead left us in the mess he did.
I called it in 2018 that it was a bad job to take and now he’s out after 6 years instead of 3, after he did nothing but win the first 4 and had them in AFCCG just a couple years ago, hamstrung his roster with bad GM drama and reading now he had a falling out with owners. Truly a franchise with a proud pedigree of ownership there in Tennessee.

With the 32nd and 28th rated offenses and Emmitt averaged 2.7 and 3.5 YPC. You can enjoy it but the fact is that he was washed and went to a shit team to chase a record. Just like Belichek probably will.

He put in a lot of effort that season and had some great moments, also Larry Fitzgerald credits him for having a big influence on him his rookie season that year.

I’d pay good money to see the look on that bitch’s face when Fairbairn nailed that field goal. Probably not as good as the one on Jerry Jones’ after our first game ❤️ I love my fucking football team

A lot of good juice in that article about Strunk Adams, paints a picture of her being a spaced out petty spoiled bitch the apple doesn’t fall too far and makes more sense now all the shit with them digging up Oilers unis and signing Hopkins.

So Vrabel to New England then?
Billy B coaching anywhere else will be too weird. He should just take a year or two off then become an advisor or assistant GM somewhere. If he wants to work that bad.

Bobby Slowik might be the frontrunner to become the next Titans head coach Neo Zeed Todd. He has strong ties with current Titans GM Ron Carthon due to their time in San Francisco together so the familiarity is there. Denver radio guy Ben Allbright who has a good track record with the NFL Draft is also predicting this. Will Slowik dead to you if he puts on the Titans garb after what Vrabel did Neo Zeed?

How many more yards would it take to consider that a solid effort? Were we really expecting 1,500 rushing yards out of a 40 year old? And the fact that Arizona was so bad that year only makes that more impressive imo. But I distinctly remember he had several moments that year, played a full season, had a big influence on an all time great franchise player in his rookie season, this doesn't fall into the same category as Ed Reed with the Texans or so many other washed up free agent scenarios Emmitt's Cardinal's run gets lumped into, the 2003 season fits that mold but he put it in in 2004. I'm off to track down the 2004 Cardinals NFL Primetime highlights to prove it! Also remember one of their late season games at home in a stadium that looked like it had 40 people, so maybe Emmitt wasn't the draw they were hoping for.

Yeah that would be pretty shitty and a bad career move for the guy obviously, I think that was what Demeco was talking about when he said at the press conference "be selective" when asked what advice he would give assistants doing interviews this offseason. Seems like the Titans job would be one of the worst you could take, and Slowik doesn't have the NE connections to fall back on when it fails. He should give it at least 1 more year in Houston and see what happens next year. But honestly Houston should open up the pocket book and pay the guy to stay put, be proactive to keep him from going to Tennessee if that's what it takes.

I think it's the fact that I really don't give a shit about the Cowboys was why I didn't have a problem seeing Emmitt in a Cardinals uni, I thought he actually looked cool and have a strange crush on that 2004 Cardinals team for some reason(I did in real time that year).

That’s all kind of the point though , he was 40 and a shell of his former self. Hats off to him for being a mentor to the younger guys and everything but even if I DESPISE the Cowboys and Emmitt - doesn’t mean I love seeing any legend go out like that. Chasing numbers for nothing. Ironically I think him going for the record like that and making it so obvious probably hurt his legacy more than helped it.

What numbers was he chasing though? I thought he broke the rushing record years prior as a Cowboy? Also he had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage I'm seeing now, more yards than anybody else on that Cardinals team, he had more rushing yards than anybody on that team had receiving yards. I actually really admire that season from Emmitt that team was horrible, he could have easily phoned it in and sat several more games out, he played 15 games, he even threw a touchdown pass. He put in the best he could that year and I always thought it was a bit of an underrated season from the old guy since it gets lumped in with other bad free agent deals(I think he even made the NFL Network top 10 worst free agent signings, which is maddening), people tend to think of the 2003 season because it does fall into that category, but his 2004 season was different and is totally forgotten. That Cardinals team was never on TV and nobody paid attention to them it was a forgotten performance, the stat line doesn't really capture it. Emmitt put in work in 2004 and looked like he had a lot of passion for the game still, that was an unbiased no horse in the race observation in real time.

A Cards win where Emmitt was their entire offense, ran for over 127 and a TD, had big receptions and threw a touchdown pass, looked like he was having fun playing for a team that was going nowhere. Following along in real time back in the day it was impossible for me not to love that and root for them. This touchdown run, he had 2 like that in the first 2 games that year

Watching these highlights this should probably get it's own thread. I may make one. I know this concept is something that would just get downvoted into oblivion on reddit. It's just become one of those commonly accepted ideas by everybody that Emmitt's Cardinals run was just a disaster with him milking a team for money when he should have retired. This is perpetuated by the fact that he did in fact look terrible in 2003 his first year with the team, and then he made the NFL Top 10 countdown for worst free agent signings ever.
But man if you were paying attention to the NFL in 2004 as thoroughly as I was you would know he actually had a cool season that year on a terrible team(Dennis Green taking over that season may have been the factor in him turning that tenure around that year). The Larry Fitzgerald influence is also huge for a team like the Cardinals that had nobody since they moved to Phoenix. I'm sentimental guy I guess, shit like that matters a lot to me. That's bigger than any stats Emmitt could have put up. But his stats do actually look good for that year for what he had to work with and his age, how much wear and tear he had by then, already had Payton's record, just genuinely seemed to be playing his ass off and having fun that year. I think his stats would have been much better had he played with even a halfway decent team, like the 2004 Texans he probably would have got them in the playoffs(they were close at one point, but just didn't have the experience on offense down the stretch).

Emmitt Smith being the main topic of the playoffs this season is way out of left field but so PW.
Speaking of random things; Joe Flacco is 5-0 in Wildcard games. Will Stroud be the 1 or will Flacco get to 6-0?
