A security guard for someone on The Weeknd’s record label was shot last week too. Something is definitely going on.

Got into this group recently and I enjoy the new vocalist as much as I have the 1st vocalist upon deep diving into the discography. Some really good tracks of Novelists altogether. Very pleasant listen.

Ilit's music related things happening in 2024, so I'm just going to post it here. iron maiden, CM Punk'd as of last night, I picked up tickets to see Evanescence, and Halestorm in October. Also, Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan in September, but I'm not as pumped for that show (mostly cause I've seen Avril Lavigne in concert plenty of times, although I'm sure she'll put on a great show like always).

I got tickets to the Halestorm/Evanessence convert in October too Lony. I'm going more for Halestorm as I've seen Evanessence before in their heyday and was not impressed. I am hoping over the years they've become a better live band. I know Halestorm is.

The Jonny Craig rabbithole is something else, found myself jumping deep into this recently. I was somewhat familiar with Dance Gavin Dance from years ago but that's a fun listen when Craig was the lead vocal. Lately his work from his time at Emarosa was just superb, even though it's not 2024 music, it deserves to shine.
He's the Jeff Hardy of the post hardcore scene. So friggin talented and charismatic but he had so many demons get to him in drugs, domestic abuse, scamming fans etc. His 2nd song is probably his way of saying sorry for the fuck ups and damnit the dude is just a monster with the vocals. These two tracks from his time with Emarosa were masterclass shit, def. been a fun listen to throughout the year.

Feldog is back and he got Fred Durst(Yes that one) to direct this masterpiece. He is now "in" on the joke. The streets are saying System that Fantano gave this a 10, possible review in the other thread? God bless Howie Mendel for giving Feldog a chance to showcase this iconic track, he hasn't pulled this one out in decades. Last time he performed this hit, he was doing it in front of a half naked Howard Stern with his asscrack out and all. Need to let him shine on America's Got Talent now.

One of the best albums of the year if you like rock music. Is that you Josh? I gave this a listen, it was alright but dated sounding (but sure, they're a four decades old band). Gary Clark Jr is a example of someone making better sounding blues rock in 2024 in my opinion.

Gary Clark Jr is a example of someone making better sounding blues rock in 2024 in my opinion. To me, it's not dated at all for them. It's a lot less blues rock, there's more hooks and it's more radio friendly. I like Gary fine, he's a monster guitar player. I'm just happy the Robinson brothers are getting along and actually talking to each other. I mean the Gallagher brothers famously said about their 2001 joint tour with the Crowes was too much for them, because the Robinson's fought all the time and there was too much tension between Chris and Rich.

The Death of Slim Shady is only slightly better than Revival.
Can’t wait for the follow up album to make up for this

That's Eminem's what, eighth bad album in a row now? I honestly don't know why anyone is even giving him a chance at this point.
There were a few good new release options in rap alone this week. Common's album with Pete Rock is fantastic and proof that old heads can still make great hip hop.

Eminem definitely showing his age on this one. On TikTok there was several Gen X women claiming that Gen Z were trying to cancel Eminem. Gen Z don’t even listen to him the first place but kept parodying the videos mockingly saying “Gen Z are trying to cancel Eminem” And it seems he took it at face value as he’s not up to date with “kids these days”

Song is pretty cool but more importantly a pre Halloween Dance with the Dead EP is going to be fantastic.

Lets bump this up....
I am shocked at how much I liked this. One because I have fallen off hard on this band since their scream vocalist left years ago(Haven't found one track I liked of theirs the little I have listened to) but because their cover of Faith No More's Epic was just not good at all, just really unpleasant. Goes to show you how good this Audioslave track really was, like it's really, really, really tough to butcher this song. Really liked Atreyu in my high school days though, cool to see they are still going at it. Their drummer went to lead vocalist and he has a good voice at times, like some of the work he did on appearances for Ice Nine Kills on their last album for example or the aforementioned collab of Dance with the Dead or the I got 5 on it cover a few years back.
(Won't be my cover song choice in the competition for anyone wondering)
Much like with Thrice's reimagination of their Artist in the Ambulance album 2 decades later from last year, another band that I grew up really loving Thousand Foot Krutch who have been on a long hiatus also put a twist of their album from like 15 years ago. They have an artist collabing with them in a re-do of their songs. They got pretty cool artists from Adam Gontier formerly of Three Days Grace to Red to Adelita's Way to Citizen Soldier among others to join in on this. I can find some very good things about these re-dos, they are pleasant surprises and an overall pretty sweet album. Really miss this band, yeah it's very 00's and very WWE PPV music at times but they had such friggin' good hits. I wasn't a fan of their last 2 albums personally but it's been so long, can do with a new album from TFK for sure.
This album altogether is easily top 3 or even 2 for me so much like with Thrice's choice to re-do The Artist in the Ambulance(That or Vheissu are my favorite work), each track of "The End is Where We Begin" is a pure bopper. Such an easy listen for me.
Speaking of...
Cool to see the lead singer of Thousand Foot Krutch is re-appearing even as a guest. I know Caleb Hayes for tons of his covers of songs but it was a pretty unexpected track altogether. Feels like something that TFK would do in the mid 10's, song is good but happy to see something new from the band altogether. It's been a long 6-7 years!

Jinjer are back baby with a surprising new track, probably in large part since they're Ukrainian and of course much, much bigger stuff has been happening over there. Tatiana Shmayluk shows why she's one of the best female vocalists of this genre today, the growls and cleans are just good shit("Pit of Consciousness" is just fantastic).
Would not mind an album drop sometime later this year, just saying. :ness:

Bought a couple of albums this year. The most recent is by The Blackburns (eponymous album). This is a Philadelphia punk band, whose bassist and vocalist was my community college history professor. Some of his other projects have been The Rentiers, Code of the Jaguar, and Ex-Friends. I buy all his stuff. The Rentiers have some 1984-inspired songs, such as "The Secret Police" and "The Legend of Molly Pitcher". The reference in the latter is "Keep the small rules, break the big ones / Keep the small rules, the small rules are the easy ones / For the people who will tell you how to live / The small rules are the only ones they care about or understand". Joel's song are about what you might expect from someone of his background, thematically. It's really neat stuff ... Other albums that I have gotten recently, Bon Jovi's "Forever" and Jennifer Lopez' "This Is Me...Now". I wonder what Jon Bon's direction will be in the near future due to his current inability to tour. He's done some work for movies, such as the tracks he put together for Stand Up Guys (actually nominated for a Golden Globe on this), and now might be the time to follow-up his nearly three decades old solo album, "Destination Anywhere".

(I have listened to Timecop1983 here and there but not as frequent of an artist of this genre as some others but this track slaps. I think I listened to tracks here and there off his last album which was in 2018 so maybe this is a 1st track off an incoming album?)
I really hope Nine Inch Nails....................nails(pun intended) the upcoming TRON:ARES movie. Please no Industrial Rock which I expect out of them, I know it's silly to think anything was touching what Daft Punk did for Legacy but man, I really hope Reznor makes a worthwhile album for that movie. Even if the movie bombs, I still have hopes for the music being great. That will be a 2025 music thread dissection though.

I love NIN/Trent’s music but you can always find the “NIN”-Isms for lack of a better term in all the soundtracks. I’m never surprised to hear Trent worked on a sounds track when I hear it. Even with How to Destroy Angels it just sounded like NIN with a female vocalist.

I quite liked this, particularly the genre-bending. I can hear a lot of different influences, on a couple of tracks the singer is giving Tom Petty, and then the melody of Suburban Blues reminded me of the Cure. A recommendation I'd give you in return after hearing this is MJ Lenderman.

x.com/linkinpark/status/1831838112743616808Credit to the rest of the bandmates of Linkin Park for still trying to do new music despite losing their lead singer Chester Bennington quite a few years ago but IDK, this just doesn't really work for me. Not a super diehard fan of theirs like how I was in middle school but this just didn't really mesh. Curious how Emily Armstrong does with new music with the band. I already see she is getting blasted online for being a Scientologist(And supposedly trying to defend Danny Masterson in his rape allegations at the time) but overall the fan response is very hit/miss.
