This is going to be The Rock's greatest challenge of his Pro Wrestling career. I don't see a Wrestlemania XXX type take-over, but I do expect some pushback and The Rock/Roman/Heyman have to sell this as a can't miss show. They have the talent and the tools there - but they can't just mail this in and have The Rock do his best of night in, night out.

First impression, that was an awful way to present the match. Did we learn nothing from Wrestlemania IX?

Honestly he can get fucked if he has a problem. He won back to back rumbles and headlined last year, and likely will headline one night this year against Seth. If he is upset for not beating Roman for the title, then he is just being a selfish prick.

Cody vs Roman I still say is a mid match at best.  Rock vs Reigns is an A tier match.

If people did not see the news or the pics, Punk is back already and was backstage at Smackdown. Looks like he will be active through the injury and not just sit at home for months. I assume if he keeps showing up he will be tossed on commentary sooner or later.

He could have dropped it to Sami in one of the most emotional matches ever. He could have dropped it to Cody last year. Hell, I think most people would have welcomed Jey winning the title at one point..

So my assumption at the moment is that they were going to do Cody Roman until HHH was told from the top to do Rock Roman. That’s the only thing that makes Cody winning the Rumble make any kind of sense. Smart thing to do would’ve been for Punk to win (at the time) and buy time, and figure out what to do with Cody later. Instead not only did they kill the story WWE fans have been into for two years, they did it in a way that completely cucked their top babyface.

He's won back to back rumbles and has been treated as a big deal vs him getting booed at will by the AEW audience by the end of his tenure. Probably getting paid 7 figures per year too and doesn't have to deal with other VP's laughing at his creative ideas. 

RAW lost Punk for half the year, now people want Cody to beat Roman and essentially be SD's champ? What good does that do for RAW given they're readying up to look good for Netflix? I also assume Seth needs time off to nurse the injury he's dealing with. I just am stunned Reigns has signed up to be champ past WM and curious who is being set up to dethrone him unless maybe they plan to unify the belts and Cody beats Reigns by like Summerslam.

That seems to be a popular theory. Basically the idea was to do Cody/Roman, Seth/Punk and the Rock would get involved with Cody/Roman setting up a match at a later date. Then the stuff with Vince happened followed by the Punk injury and they decided to kill two birds with one stone, up the ante and book Roman/Rock.

I think people are just connecting the dots and we'll learn more as time goes on.

I still think Orton/Cody is a good WM worthy main event it's just you have to be creative in getting Orton to win the belt from Rollins at EC. The issue is Seth/Cody has been done so much before and you aren't getting Rollins at full health.

So I just rewatched the whole thing and this is my take - it was a WrestleCrap Hall of Fame segment. They had Roman bury the world title and world champion (why?) while trying to get across that it’s ok for Cody to go for that title. Then they had Cody voluntarily give up his spot for the Rock in the main event, for absolutely no logical reason whatsoever. This was as if someone put a gun to HHH’s head and said book the worst segment possible or I’ll pull the trigger.

Also I would that given the nature of WrestleMania crowds, and of Philly crowds, and the ground swell of support that Cody has around him that hasn’t been seen in decades, the idea of this match being rejected live is a possibility.

I partially agree.

Roman burying the World Title makes sense when you put it into context. On Raw Seth Rollins basically did the same thing to Roman in an attempt to convince Cody to choose him at Wrestlemania. He said he is the guy, with the number one championship, because Reigns is never around and he cheats to keep the title every single time. It was a fantastic promo, and is he really wrong?

Roman Reigns being the insecure egomaniac he is, of course he's going to fire back and attack Rollins as much as he was attacked. He didn't really address the point that he never shows up, he just said "money lol". Heel trolling.

I do concur on the rest. Cody said these passionate words about ending the story, ending Roman Reigns, and concluded his promo with "nah forget about it, here's Rock lol". At the same time, is there a good way to present this to the audience? I'm not sure there is. Maybe they did the best they could.

That said, Rock vs Reigns is tremendously more exciting than Cody vs Reigns II, and I'm someone who's normally against this type of booking.
