Fascism // communism isn't something I think we can effectively discuss here. We're far too surface level on that topic and both are ideologies that require a lot more than a paragraph to disseminate properly.

I don't think it's off base to point out though that certain strategies have been loaned in and tweaked for an American palette.

It's also much easier to implement fascism into American society than it ever would be for socialism.

Us Queens NY people apologize for AOC. She is a nutcase and she does little to anything to help New Yorkers in her district. She always rolls her some Spanglish come voting time to win the Hispanic vote over but I don't get what voters see in her outside of attraction and passion(albeit in a foolish manner).

But the party ironmaiden was referring to is not a left wing party. Those parties in Canada never come anywhere close to being in power.

Up here we have right-wing and centrist. Justin Trudeau says a lot of progressive shit but he delivers on less than half of it. We have the NDP and the Greens here that are much further left at a federal level, but they never come close to being in power. The best they can hope for is holding the balance of power in Parliament alongside the centrist Liberal party.

And before you look and say “well the NDP runs 3 provinces,” those don’t count. At a provincial level that party is more centre-right than anything.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents. It’s much different up here than people realize.

The part the left will never say out loud is that the only way you can achieve this is by punishing one group of people to advantage another.
Soon as you state that x% of your pilots are going to be black lesbian refugees, you instantly remove those jobs from the pool available to those who have worked the hardest.
We need an egalatarian society that pushes for everyone to have the same opportunity on education and employment, what people choose to do with those opportunities is up to them.

I admit to be torn on this subject. On one hand I know that some groups have been held back and do not have a fair advantage over others still to this day and it’s almost impossible to ‘catch up’ or gain equality/equity after that happens and so many systems and unconscious biases are put in place to keep these groups down. On the other hand, if let’s say we’re discussing the drug, theft and homelessness issue here for example, I often feel like taxpaying, hardworking middle class or lower-class Canadians/Edmontonian’s rights to safety and security in our own communities and homes is being thrown over in favour of the unhoused, addicts, etc., which can feel very frustrating.

I can give you another example which is climate change.
I went from a total believer in man-made climate change, to being reasonably convinced that it is more likely than unlikely.
The issue around climate policy is that it is from the same poisoned tree of DEI that I mentioned earlier.

My country has agreed to something like 20% cuts by 2030.
Countries like China and India have only committed to hit peak output by 2030.
The idea of the UN is that these countries deserve the right to build their economies the same way the West has.
In principal it sounds great, but the aim of climate change policy is to drive up the cost of energy to make alternative systems more economical.
So as manufacturing shuts down in the West during to energy costs it shifts to countries that haven't signed the Paris accords and they burn the world's dirtiest coal to produce the same products at half the price.

To top it all off, we only have the word of China and India that they will reduce their output after these dates.
India and China are still building coal fired power plants at a massive level.

This is where the system falls over, we are told to be ashamed of climate change and as a result we should pay more for electricity, then the same products are then manufactured in a different country with more pollution and what did we gain... Virtue?

You are right. Basically, we just shifted our pollution to China and India and other developing countries that now we are expecting them to just jump over the technologies we’ve used hundreds of years ago. We’ve gone into these countries, drained them of their resources and left them worse than when we got there. In 2015, Countries agreed to the Green Climate Fund in order to help these countries transition to a tune of 100 billion a year by 2020 but have fallen short by 90 billion. DO you think we as the richer nations and plunderers have a responsibility to contribute to the solution?

I highly suggest you and other watch this 23 minute video from 2021 about this exact thing. It was very eye opening to me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging the sins of the past and wanting to do better. Where I struggle is how do we atone for it. For instance, in Canada we seem to toss money at our Indigenous peoples for treating them like dogs for centuries, but is that the best course of action? What good is money without other programs and supports to help with things like inter generational trauma and addictions issues stemming from those traumas. 

Not sure about Australia, but I feel in Canada (at least Edmonton), we/systems are failing in so many ways spectacularly. We are failing our children, our youth, our poor and seniors. And we've got to look into why that is and what the answers are because I don't see it getting better under our current leadership which is Far Right anymore than I see it getting better under a Far Left party. I just feel that more centrist to left ideologies fit into that better than right wing ideologies - at least here.

If this isn't fake as alluded by sting above, you might be surprised to hear I don't disagree with him on all points.

I believe a lot of systems in Canada (and likely the US) need to be overhauled and corruption ousted, but my issue is who and how do they decide who that is nd what it looks like? Is it just anyone who is against his policies? That sounds like a slippery Minority Report slope. And who gets put in their place? People loyal to him? Then that's another slippery slope.

I also agree with governments having independent auditing systems, but for finances, not whether or not they are spying or not. I care more about where my tax payer money is going than I do if my phone or Alexa is spying on me (which they are). 

I don't think 'Truth and Reconciliation' means what he thinks it means...ours focuses on injustices carried out over our years as a country (usually against minority groups) and looks to find a way to educate, support and do better. 

Some of this sounds like some 1984 shit. I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.
