I know it is a bit of a controversial opinion but I feel bad for the women boxers trying to medal this year: www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/articles/c4ngr93d9pgoThink it's way too soon to allow 2 transgender talents to compete in a sport like women's boxing for Olympic medals. I am all for transgender only competition in the Olympics down the road but think it isn't fair to put 2 transgender women who were previously disqualified from competing in bouts like this. MMA and boxing are two sports that I think you have to take the separation element seriously. I'm all for diversity and the like but it's a competitive advantage. Australia's boxing captain Caitlin Parker is the first Olympic athlete to speak out against the men in women's boxing. She says, "I don’t agree with them being allowed to compete in sport, especially combat sports. It can be incredibly dangerous. I don’t agree with it.”www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2024/07/31/caitlin-parker-imane-khelif-lin-yu-ting-boxing-olympics-ioc/(Sorry to hijack the thread with this but I can't believe they are allowing this to happen)

Yeah having a biological dude fight women is another L for the Olympics. Super embarrassing. I did try and bet the guy to win but the odds were -2500 and that’s not worth it.

The Algerian boxer broke the Italian boxer's nose and won in 46 seconds as a followup. I feel so bad for the Italian. I don't even blame the Algerian boxer, it's the regulations that failed here.

I mean the Algerian boxer could have also never agreed to box women. 😂 How don’t you blame him?

I mean the Algerian boxer could have also never agreed to box women. 😂 How don’t you blame him? Maybe from a moral standpoint but as the old saying goes, "Don't hate the player, hate the game". If they put their name out there and it isn't shot down by people who are paid to check tests of their participants and main purpose is to make sure it's an even playing field for all from a safety & fairness standpoint, then who do you point the finger at? When I saw the result, I said "What a shocker" but I still feel bad for the people who train and have like 2-3 cracks in their lifetime to participate in the Olympics to get this result.

www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40697100/boxer-faced-gender-questions-wins-rival-quits-fightEven made headline news here for ESPN. I didn't think this would explode the way it has. Imane Khelif has to win 1 more match to qualify for a medal according to this. The Italian boxer refused to shake hands after this but didn't choose to throw anyone under the bus which is a massive credit to her. There's a Taiwanese transgender female boxer that is fighting tomorrow as well, think it is in a different weight class though?

Remember when Kobe made “Girl Dad” famous and now if a dad says anything about their daughter having to fight men, it’s transphobic. Could you imagine a dude hitting your daughter, sister, mother, wife, girlfriend? It’s pure insanity.

The Summer Olympics have become Summer's Olympics!
McIntosh won another gold in the Women's 200M Butterfly!
Only the 4th Canadian to win two golds in a single games, the first since since Alex Baumann in '84, and the 1st woman to ever do it.

The superstar women have really delivered so far - three gold for O'Callahan, two each for Titmus, McIntosh, Jess Fox and Biles.

Ledecky will almost certainly get another gold tonight in the 800m which would tie her with Mark Spitz and Carl Lewis with 9 for second most all time behind Phelps.

It's a unique conversation with Khelif that is worth clarifying on, seeing a lot of chatter that she was a biologically born woman but has a DSD/Development of Sex Disorder that gives her unusual high levels of testosterone which is of course an advantage. I don't think she is transgender despite the counter argument being that Khelif has an XY chromosome and it was backed by testing. Again the major point is how is she still cleared and allowed to compete at the moment if she has a higher level of testosterone against other female boxers? People make a cop out argument that she can be beaten and has lost in the past but that's like me saying you can strike 1998 Mark McGwire out or 2001 Barry Bonds out because "it's been done before". Still doesn't excuse that big hurdle that people have to jump over to succeed. Again I don't hold the fighter accountable here, they applied to see if they can qualify and they got approved. They went through the proper protocol. Who takes the blame and is every bit deserving of the questioning are the people who clear these fighters to go and fight. Seeing the IOC double down on this decision is really baffling to me. x.com/iocmedia/status/1819068761787244959Either way she fights this Saturday against a Hungarian boxer in what is probably going to have a crap ton of eyeballs watching on the fallout from that. Pretty shocked this has gotten coverage on the Pat McAfee show which is an ESPN show. Logan Paul also spoke pretty loudly here and some of the female talent in WWE(Isla Dawn) pretty much are backing Khelif and saying this is a witch hunt. I didn't seriously expect this to catch fire the way it did when I found out about this yesterday but it's worthwhile conversation because everybody deserves a fair chance at their sport. Nobody wants to feel like they got cheated when they lose.

I have no idea how this person can be allowed to fight women? It’s absurd.
I haven’t heard anyone confirm the boxer has female anatomy. Has anyone? The most I’ve seen media say is “she doesn’t identify as trans or intersex.”
By the way, the IOC absolutely knew this would be an issue. That’s why they tried to control the language of the media:
“In guidelines issued ahead of the Paris Games, the IOC urged media to avoid terms like “biological male,” “born male” or “born female” because these phrases “can be dehumanizing and inaccurate when used to describe transgender sportspeople and athletes with sex variations. A person’s sex category is not assigned based on genetics alone,” the “Portrayal Guidelines” read, “and aspects of a person’s biology can be altered when they pursue gender-affirming medical care.”“

If we do karyotype testing on the rest of the female Olympians, it wouldn’t be that shocking to find another few XY chromosome abnormalities from women who were born women, identified as women, and lived their whole lives as women excelling at sports on a global scale.
To read it on here and then on social media I would have thought she just put on a wig Ladybugs style to go beat on women. Seems considerably more complicated. I don’t really know the right answer on this one. I assume she has a genetic advantage over other women, but I don’t know how significant it is. Maybe karyotype testing is the future for the Olympics. I dunno. Tough call.

If we don't think an XY chromosome and the masculine development makes a difference, why not just eliminate Male and Female sports and see how many women still medal (or even make teams)?

I didn’t say I did or didn’t know, though my understanding is one of the significant differences would be testosterone production which isn’t a test she’s failed for to my knowledge. What I said I don’t know how significant the advantage was, and I doubt anyone here really does though c and kid probably will say they do. Also said that we should consider testing all athletes for it, as we’re currently only holding female boxers to this standard because of the one boxing federation previously involved.
