Home Alone Every year I can’t wait to watch this movie then every year I’m reminded how terrible Macaulay Caulkin is at acting. I really can’t believe this kid blew up the way he did. I get the movie being held in high regard (it’s awesome) but Caulkin was garbage even for a child actor. Maybe standards were lower back then.
Home Alone 2: Lost In New York I know this movie basically rehashes every joke from the first one but for some reason I like it more than the first. Caulkin is better this time around and the plot is pretty tight considering the absurdity of losing your own kid twice, and at one of the most secure places on Earth. Tim Curry is hilarious, Harry & Marv are on point again, the trap house is even more unforgiving than the first. It’s good stuff.
The Santa Clause This movie doesn’t hold up, imo. I kind of liked it as a kid but it was forgettable for me. Cool concept, but it just never clicked in that way that other Christmas movies did. There’s a level of nostalgia and rewatchability that Christmas movies require and this one doesn’t hit that level. We watched it because my son had never seen it and he got bored half way through.

I don't know what you're talking about. Actually, I do know what he is talking about. I was going to post a review last night but decided that sleeping was a better option. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)The title is a very strange one, but I gotta admit, it does describe the film very well. The story is certainly about three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. There is no doubt about that. No sir. Whoever thought up that title did a good job of describing the core plot point of the film. Those three billboards drive the actions of the characters from start to finish. Great movie. Better title.
While this is a 10/10 review...do it better. I want feeling. I want emotion. I want an epic culmination of two hours of thoughts and ideas forming and tumbling around your mind throughout the duration of the film. Thoughts which resulted from the sprouting of a juncture of the branching of a moment in time from which you began to form the essence of the seed of a sapling of ideas that eventually, inevitably, formed the genesis...of the thoughts had about this movie.
If you have to switch the review subject to Dark Phoenix to make that happen, that is acceptable.

I hate this post , pretty much all of it. Watched The Santa Clause last night and couldn't disagree more with it not holding up. The movie is great , the jokes still hit and the story is fun and awesome. My daughter loved it as much as the first time she seen it last year. Home Alone is great too. You filthy animal. Watched Shazam yesterday , I am a Zachary Levi fan from the Chuck days and it had the kid from It in it so those were the best parts , overall though the movie fell sort of flat for me. I don't know what I was expecting but from the reviews I thought it would be way better. It was fine. Nothing more , nothing less.

I never said I didn’t like Home Alone I just said Caulkin is a bad actor, which is true. The movie itself is timeless. I love it.
I could never watch The Santa Clause again and be fine with it. My kids couldn’t care less too. My daughter actually complained and left the room when we put it on. She said it was stupid and went to her room to watch Gravity Falls.

John Wick 2 I didn't really enjoy this film outside of a few isolated moments. Upon reflection, I realise that maybe the reason I didn't enjoy it was that I was trying too hard to make sense of everything. But the film makes it hard to avoid that. Let's face it, John Wick movies are standard action flicks where there's a single cool, emotionless hero who kills everybody with mostly minimal effort.
Yet this particular series has ambition. It wants to be an action movie with all its tired clichés, and it also wants to tell a story in a nuanced universe involving an underground assassin's guild. The problem is, the writing is not good enough and the characters are not strong enough (Laurence Fishburne's character is the only one with a shred of personality and he's in it for maybe five minutes) to justify this ambition. So we're left with a very aesthetic, beautiful, choreographed action movie with a deus ex machina-filled story that had me scratching my head or rolling my eyes at every turn.
Dare I mention that John Wick is a filthy cheat in this world where there's a super assassin on every street corner? He hits people with cars, they are incapacitated or unable to resist. John Wick gets hit with a car, he gets knocked over but he's fine seconds later. John Wick gets shot in the gut, he walks slowly clutching his wound for a while, but two minutes later is fighting like nothing happened. John Wick gets stabbed in the leg during a fight, he limps away after winning the fight, but doesn't show any signs of injury on his next fight moments later.
I could go on and on about the stupid plot, but I'll save us all the trouble. Nobody cares anyway. It would all be met by a one liner dismissive comment like "It's an action film, it's not supposed to make sense!"
The first John Wick was a very entertaining popcorn action flick which hinted at a deep fictional universe but kept it murky, not releaving enough to invoke criticism. Of course it left me wanting more, but when I got more, I realised that maybe I didn't want it after all. John Wick 2 is a soulless sequel, an exhibition of Keanu Reeves killing people in stylish ways in nothing more. It really is The Matrix trilogy all over again, except The Matrix had personality and variety throughout, not just flashy set pieces and a warehouse load of expensive suits.
One day I may read the plot summary of John Wick 3 and roll my eyes some more, but I'm not going to watch it.

In light of the above, I decided to watch the first John Wick again. Fortunately, I still find it to be an excellent film. It has a simple and effective premise that motivates Wick's actions, and thus the entire story. If you work hard enough you can point out gaps and inconsistencies in the plot, but they aren't there staring you in the face like they are in the sequel. It's not intelligence insulting. John Wick is an incredible killing machine, but he's not superhuman. His ass got saved twice, and the person who saved him suffered consequences. In the sequel, it's plot armour that saves Wick, over and over.

RT's post makes me realize how far behind I am on watching Christmas movies this year. Threat Level Midnight- Well worth the wait after famously being stuck in developmental hell for years. Definitely writer/director/producer/star Michael Scott's magnum opus. The acting, writing, and special effects were all top notch. I expect this to clean up come award season. 10/10. Is this different from the episode? It was so long ago that I watched the show that I don't even remember if it played the full movie or not. I'm in the same boat as you. Loved The Office. But I haven't watched it in years. From what I remember the episode only showed a few clips from Michael's movie. I'm guessing those clips appeared in the expanded 'real' movie they just put out.

I think both movies are highly enjoyable, but I mentioned the plot was ridiculous and it was just an action movie earlier and UT jumped to its defense. I didn't attack it nearly as hard as you though, who apparently didn't even like the movie. I demand that UT post several paragraphs of intense retorts combating your post. Yeah, the plot is rough but it's not supposed to make sense. It's just a fun movie. Chill out.
The third one is the best John Wick movie of them all. Watch it. It's a lot closer to the first movie than to the second. UT, tell him to watch the third movie and call him dumb for not liking the second one.

I don't even think that was half of our debate or disagreement. You said John Wick meant nothing to the genre or something , and were wrong. I would never call Emperor dumb though. He's not nearly the pain in the ass you are.

It might be the type of the film where they just embrace the stupidity and stop trying to be sophisticated. Still not gonna watch it.

He's not nearly the pain in the ass you are. What!? That’s the exact opposite of what I said. I said it was incredibly innovative and genre DEFINING because no other series is even like it. All I said was the plot was ridiculous and lacking depth. JOHN WICK

Spider-Man 2: Far From Home Drones. Hundreds of drones. Drones.
This was ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as John Wick 2, and more entertaining. But it's still a low tier MCU film, and much worse than Homecoming.
Apparently the post-credits scene was some kind of game changer but I didn't really get it. The mid-credits scene was far more significant to me.

Fighting with my family
I finally saw this work of fiction. What a load of load of bullshit. Surely this is intended for those who haven’t actually seen the WWE or know Paige’s NXT development career.
That, and for fucks sake, why is DJ on the poster front and centre?

That, and for fucks sake, why is DJ on the poster front and centre? New to biopics? They're almost always half truths and whole lies, with just a smidge of truth sprinkled throughout. For instance, the character Queen initially bring Bohemian Rhapsody to, who said it'd never get played, is completely fictional. They'd also reunited prior to Live Aid, and knew of Freddy's diagnosis way earlier than depicted. He'd also known them prior to becoming the lead singer.

It's my biggest gripe with biographical movies, that and Paul Giamatti always has to make an appearance. I'm just waiting for the sequel where he plays Paul Heyman - you know it's going to happen.

Probably right. I just remembered he wanted it made based on the documentary, so assumed he directed. Now I'm just gonna pretend he threatened to lay the smackdown if it didn't happen following a well-timed "it doesn't matter" to whoever he had to pitch it to.

FWMF feels like a generic fantasy factory piece, that could have easily been written as a story of a football/soccer/basketball player breaking into the major leagues then reworked to fit the WWE. And Jesus, at least dress Paige like Paige and Vega as AJ for the big scene. And did Vince Vaughn really call it “ the NXT “? And life long fan, Paige, doesn’t remember the guy training her was thrown off a cage by The Rock and nearly killed. I can’t wait for Parts 2 and 3. Come to Papi, and Lost in the Woods.

The Irishman
Incredible film, so many films this year have came out with an unjustified run time yet this 3hr 30 min was entertaining from start to finish with incredible performances by De Niro and Pacino.
Highly recommended if you’re into crime films.
10/10

Nobody in here loving or bitching about Star Wars? WTF! I didn't go see it. Not after the way Last Jedi shit on the franchise. As someone who watched Last Jedi and thought it was fine (admittedly not knowing any of the hatred it had going in) I really don't get this sentiment. Episodes I - III shit so hard on what the original three films built, that I don't get why anyone who remained invested would care if follow-up movies were bad or not.

As someone who isn't a die-hard, but isn't exactly casual either... that Mary Poppins scene killed the whole movie for me. Also I'm less interested in forking over cash since I accidentally had the movie spoiled (so ima wait for it to be available via stream instead). Spoilers coulda been fake, but seems likely judging by all the OMG FAIL Youtube thumbnails I've been seeing.

Someone doesn't like the Wick series, because it's ridiculous...that's the intent. It's unabashed over the top violence. If you didn't like the first 2, then never see the 3rd...it takes everything up a few notches. The first one is about as serious as you'll ever get, but when you figure out he's indestructible, fasten your seatbelts.
Killers Anonymous - Very good little cast with Gary Oldman and Tommy Flanagan. Such huge potential with this movie and it's really a pretty good concept. A group that allows contract killers to meet and talk about their hits and jobs. But, there's more to it and it just misses on a couple of things. A decent watch. 6.0
