I'm glad the Caps split the games in Vegas. I really, really did not want them going back to Washington down 2-0. It's just no fun that way. And Vegas is a team that could totally stun them in Washington.
Hopefully the Caps use this momentum to get a stranglehold on the series, but if anyone is going to go up 3-1 and lose, it's them, so I don't know what I want. This series is impossible, but I'm loving every second. So glad we got a fresh finals this year.
And what about that save by Holtby? Oh my GOD. Pride of Saskatchewan!

I watch a YouTube guy named Steve Dangle. His claim to fame is LFR, or Leafs Fan Review, a YouTube channel he started 10 years ago. Over the past few years his channel has taken off and he's gone from some lowly nobody at SportsNet to an on-air personality, and he's doing reviews of the finals games in a series called "Cup Check."
After Game 2 he noted that the Capitals are the first team to draw Vegas into "nonsense." He said that LA, San Jose and Winnipeg all let Vegas play the game they wanted to play and didn't try to throw them off their game, but Washington is and that's why they're winning.
He likened it to the Bruins/Leafs series because Boston is the best example of a team like this. Look at Game 1 of that series. The Leafs are faster and have better scoring and equal or better goaltending (if you believe Rask sucks in the playoffs, which he kinda does), but Boston drew them in to the game they wanted to play and controlled the series early, and Toronto couldn't fight their way back into it (they came so close though...ugh now I'm getting mad again..)
Anyway, nobody on Washington has to stoop to licking other players to get Vegas to start trying to play physical, make mistakes and end up in the box or down a goal. Game 3 seemed like more of the same. Vegas seems to be able to swing momentum in their favour whenever they want, which we saw early in the 3rd, but all it takes is for Tom Wilson to lay a hit and a few poke checks to create turnovers and suddenly Vegas is like "what the fuck do we do!?"

Vegas couldn't have picked a worst time for their carriage to turn back into a pumpkin.
Not only are they gonna lose the series, but Fleury is gonna lose the Conn Smythe.

Now now, if there’s an American team in hockey that is known for their Jenna Jameson skills of choking, it’s definitely The Capitals. I would not be surprised if they somehow lose the series being up 3-1.

I know this is not Stanley Cup related, but the Islanders fired Garth Snow and Doug Weight today. I thought Snow would stay with the Islanders forever, but Lamoriello wants to bring in his own people. I feel a little bad for Weight who just got caught up in this. I loved the way he handled Barzal. Weight gave him complete freedom to do what he does best, which includes skating laps with the puck around everyone. Weight has a lot to do with Barzal's breakout and eventual Calder season. It will be interesting to see how Barzal responds next season.
The Caps have a stranglehold of the series. Despite the Caps history of collapsing I don't think it is happening. Caps are too good, and Vegas looks defeated.

Despite the Caps history of collapsing I don't think it is happening. Caps are too good, and Vegas looks defeated. I bring you back to my post from two days ago. Last night was exactly what Dangle was talking about. Tom Wilson and TJ Oshie got inside the heads of Vegas and they didn't know what to do. Neal was off his game, half the team was taking dumb penalties, and McNabb and Reaves should be suspended for Game 5 (they won't be, but they should). Vegas was so good all year they didn't learn how to lose. Game 5 is a tough one to call. Vegas plays well at home, but they're frustrated and tired. I think it'll be a scrappy game that could go either way. I don't think Washington loses Game 6 though, if it makes it that far.

Well from this point forward, the Stanley Cup is in the building.
Who thinks Ovi hoists the Cup tonight and who thinks Vegas forces it back to Washington?
I think first goal wins this game, and I think Vegas is going to come out flying. They're more than confident at home and they know if they get an early lead it's going to be nearly impossible for Washington to come back if Fleury is back on his game, which I suspect he will be. I think Vegas takes it 5-2.

Really happy Ovi finally got a Cup. He deserves one more than anybody.
TJ Oshie's post-game interview made me tear up. If you haven't seen it, find it. Fair warning: you might cry.

I didn’t cry, but what a scumbag question to ask a player. Asking someone a question about their ill father. There’s no courtesy in interviewing. They just want that money reaction. I think it’s foul.
Anyways, congrats to the Capitals. They deserved it.
