Is Shameless a good show? I keep seeing clips recommended to me, mostly centered on Fiona and she seems downright amazing.

I loved Shameless, even when some of the storylines were off the wall crazy.

Watched the four part Netflix documentary on Robbie Williams. Have never been a massive fan, but this was very well done.
I didn't realize he'd been thrust into celebrity at such a young age and handled it like most 16 year olds would...poorly, causing him to struggle with addition and mental health issues for his life. There were a couple of parts that really mirrored other celebrity documentaries I've seen on George Michael, etc. The UK press being absolutely brutal.
His panic attacks during the last leg of that massive tour really spoke to me, as I've been there and can't imagine having an attack lasting 2-3 hours shared by 90K people. I had one the other day and it lasted for hours, but I was able to suffer most of it privately.
I'm going to go through his music library and see what sticks out to me still or for the first time.

I'm an idiot. I initially read that as Robin Williams, as I kept reading it, I realized that wasn't who you were talking about.

Honestly cannot wait for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Everything I have seen of this seems like such a homage to both the movie and video game. Think they got most if not all the cast, the animation looks really good and the music thus far sounds great. The action scenes will make or break this show but you would really have to go out of your way to ruin this.
The Yu Yu Hakusho real life adaption IDK......not a huge fan of them skipping like 2-3 sagas(The beginning, Genkai's tournament and the 4 saint beasts) and go all the way to Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei & Kurama all trying to save Yukina from The Toguros. Feel like it undermines the entire origin of each character.

Finally made my way completely through Adventure Time, great stuff.
I'd really only ever caught one off episodes here and there, hilarious stuff, but it's the long form story arcs that start later in the series that prove the show's true genius. Just phenomenal work, with such a pitch perfect and beautiful ending.

Feel like it undermines the entire origin of each character. Watching this now. I can see a whole lot of people HATING it. They really pulled a hard swerve in this by doing a totally different story than the movie and comics. Really cool for comic fans with an open mind though. Adds a ton to the story. Scott appears to be killed in the first episode during his fight with Patel and the series follows Ramona trying to find him. This involves her coming to terms with why she broke up with her ex'es. It is essentially the comics if she was the main character instead going through Scott's journey.

Finished Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It was really fun. Perfect companion to the comics. Fun to read the rage in the reviews after that it was not the comic story and how the series went woke from people who I guess never realized what the actual story was about.

People seem to be shitting on it but I'm enjoying the real Squid Game. They could have toned down the personal sob stories a bit but that's par for the course with these types of competition shows.
I saw an article that a show that I loved Colin From Accounts has been released in the US - if you have Paramount+ I highly recommend it! Nath has got the cultural cringe and will tell you that Australia has never made a good tv show or movie but as you'd know his opinion is doo doo, so take it from me instead that it's funny and charming and fresh and you will absolutely enjoy it.

I am on Squid Game now too. Great adaptation. I suspect one too they will get a ton of seasons of. The elimination method is much different than the other shows on right now. No voting out your peers, it is just willing games. And the larger numbers means the survivor style cliqs can emerge and shine. Also love they make the people do the chores themselves. Adds another great layer to this.
Overall, just really good reality TV.
Very curious what they do with the second season of the man show, as this is were these type of things fall off hard.

Seeing many of the contestants complaining all over TikTok that were mistreated and exploited while filming the game show version is such beautiful irony considering the themes of the original.

Been rewatching Friday Night Lights for a few weeks now. I don’t usually think of it as one of my favorite shows because of some of the sillier stuff (season 2, the really poorly done racial stuff from season 4, the idea that Tim Riggins was 15 when the show started, etc.) but it can really hit some emotional high spots. Smash getting into Texas A&M is probably my favorite from those early seasons, but they just find great lows to build to tear jerking wins for the characters.
Parenthood from the same team is frequently good too, just never quite at this level.

Batman TAS, heart of steel 2 part is amazing, all the Bladerunner references I must have never picked up on last time I seen this, they even got the voice of the actor that played Sebastion. Amazing show.

Been watching Vice's Dark Side of Comedy. Pretty interesting. Some more than others. Very reminiscent of Dark Side of the Ring in many ways. Mental health issues, drug use, unresolved traumas. The Richard Pryor one was the most interesting one so far IMO. Some were just sad like Artie Lange and of course Chris Farley. I'm on Season 1 and up to Bret Butler (Season 1, episode 8).

I started Gen V finally and so far so good. I'm 3 episodes in, I think? While I like it so far I'm leaning towards it being over-hyped. I've seen more than one review saying it is better than The Boys and so far that isn't true at all. It's a great compliment and definitely captures the same tone, and I like the characters so far, but better? No way.
Also watching season 2 of Welcome To Wrexham and it's just as good as the last so far. While I know how the season ends for the team, Mrs RT doesn't and is avoiding spoilers, and we are both once again enjoying the stories of the people and fans of that town. Great show.

In a happy development for a change in shows I enjoy, Good Omens renewed for a 3rd and final season. While the B story of season 2 could have been left out, the Crowley/Aziraphale stuff is just pure gold. Hopefully they focus on that or get a better B story.

In similar fashion to Good Omens, What We Do in Shadows was renewed for a 6th and final season. I’ll miss it, still going strong in 5, but better to go out before hitting the skids.

Watching The Crown. Just finished episode 3 that covers Diana’s final day in Paris with Dodi.
I thought that episode was really well done but the start of this season has felt rushed. I guess they don’t really have a choice though. The show is ending and needs to be wrapped up. I just kind of wish they spent more time on Diana before she hooked up with Dodi. They skipped a lot of stuff that made her such an interesting public figure.
I am glad they included her work on landmines though. Her bringing attention to that was such a big deal.

Watching the latest Nathan Fielder project The Curse.
If you're familiar with his other work (Nathan For You, The Rehersal) it's very similar but with Ben Safdie (Uncut Gems, Good Time) on board as a writer/actor it's a lot darker and grounded. The show stars Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone playing this upper crust couple filming a reality show in this poverty-stricken community. It's a total vanity project and they're in constant conflict trying to produce a show, keeping it reality based and working alongside a community that's wary of what this couple is trying to do.
The show is seven episodes deep and while it has had it's moments, it's a show that is mired in tension and we're just waiting to see what exactly sets it all off.
So far audience reception has been very mixed. The critics loved it, audiences have been really down on it. I think it comes down to whether or not you're a fan of Fielder/Safdie's other work and if you trust them to tell this grounded story with unlikeable characters.

Final season of Letterkenny got dropped yesterday. Not sure if anyone here watches it but thought you should be aware.
I had to leave town for work so I am waiting until I am home so I can watch it proper with Mrs RT. Every year we eat snacks and I drink and she smokes weed and we watch the entire season in one sitting. They’re only 6 episodes so it’s an easy afternoon binge. They typically drop a season on Christmas then another around Canada Day in the summer. Also been some special episodes here and there like St Patrick’s Day and Easter.
I am sad it is over but it was time. Show ran its course and has never been able to match the magic of the first few seasons (except for the chip flavour episode last year. I fucking cried laughing.) Also we have Shorsey to fall back on, which has been surprisingly good and way better than I expected. Season 2 was amazing.
