Crazy storm on the West Coast that is acting like a hurricane would but mirrored. Did not know this was even possible.

For the Aussies, how's the weather?
I made it into Seymour this morning (approx. 1 he out of Melbourne) the roads were all ready cut off, took a detour and was able to be on site, before the evacuation order was given. I made it out, back up North before the town was completely isolated by flood water.
Other local areas are being hit with major flooding and storm damage.

I am glad my house is at the top of the hill, this is some serious rain. There's a flood warning near my work... Which is next to a creek... I hope it doesn't get to that.

Seymour, the town I was in briefly this morning before escaping is now split in half by water. I'm about 90kms north and the water is expected to come my way. Some of my other local townships are in deep trouble also.

It was honestly just a nice day. Easy 70. Not hot. Not really cold (didn't even have to clear the windows this morning) and a slight breeze... dude I was inside for most of it but my last hr I did some outdoor work and it was just... man.

After escaping Seymour yesterday from the floods (the town is completely cut off now) it is panic-stations here in Greater Shepparton - supermarkets are seeing scenes similar to covid-panic-buying, the roads are jam-packed with traffic with people either getting out early or prepping. No official evac notice has been given however. My house is 600m uphill from the closest point in the river, so things might get interesting over the next few days. I am less than 50m from a school, so I hope the local authorities do their best to protect it (against a costly rebuild) and thus protect us.

How's the weather you ask? Currently snowing. {HIGH FIVES Lony } It's been unseasonably warm here. Sun-Tues it's low 20's and then staying in the high teens...I hope. Usually, by now we've had our first snow. It was this way last year too. :ugh:

Finally some nice spring weather, warm but not too hot.
it’s rained constantly all summer last year and it’s meant to do the same this year so will enjoy the fleeting moments of sunshine before the deluge comes 😒.

No big concerns as yet, water is currently contained to the systems, and there seemed to be some sort of plan to divert the water around the township for the most. Our street is expecting 30-80cm if shit gets real. The river was at 10.4m at 9am this morning, and rose to 10.5 in the 15 minutes we watched it. 12.1m is the " we're fucked " point for the entire town.

Pleasant 60s. That's how it's been here the past week with the exception of rainy Thursday which was naturally the one day I had outdoor plans.

Ooof I heard 12.06m on the news this morning - hope you're ok. It's pretty crazy how widespread this is. Obviously it's nowhere near as serious as up north but the path that runs along the Yarra at the bottom of my office was completely submerged over the weekend.

Well, fuck me gentlemen.
The last 48hrs have felt like 2 weeks.
Saturday was panic(shopping) stations around town, as there was/is legitimately no-where to go that isn't impacted in some fashion.
Yesterday started at 4.30am as the first signs of danger were climbing slowly up my street. At this point it had taken the CBD and surrounding homes.. why didn't we leave? Well, it was meant to be similar to the '74 flood and back in 1974 it barely touched what is now the nature strip in front of my house and the emergency advice listed the areas that were likely to be impacted, and we weren't one of them. How they/we were wrong.
I kept the water out my place for most of the morning, the plinth board on my front fence was doing a hell of a job, and the 15 sandbags we were allocated were doing its job. Then it begun flooding from the neighbouring house's front yards into mine and slowly came in from the back of my yard.
My house is a weather cottage, so by 1pm it was underneath the house. It slowed, then sped up.. then slowed, slowed and then sped up dramatically.. it was barely 15cm deep and for a house lifted up, another 15cm meant panic - but it was close to peak.
I made the decision to get the kid out and waded through 400m of knee deep water to deliver him to my old man did the same, but was going to dry land.
By the time I made the journey back, the front entrance was into my house was taking some water. Very minimal as there must have been a pin prick of a gap somewhere. I sat there until 9.20pm watching it slow creep in, nothing more than what looked like someone spilt a glass of water. Anxiety kicked into gear and a young bloke who went onto move over 40 families to safety in a single night, posted on Facebook if anyone needed assistance and I took the offer, left the cats, and took the wife and dog on a boat ride around town. Some poor people's houses were 1.5m deep. And then spent the night at my cousin's house until making it to my parent's house this morning. Borrowing a kayak from the same cousin, I paddled into my place this afternoon to minimal water damage. It looked like we took a cm or two in the entrance way and the same in the laundry, which is a step down aswell from the living area.
The neighbour who stayed said she took a few inches in her house, however the water had gone down and looking at the "chip bark" marks on the house, it was gone down approx 5cm.
I grabbed some supplies, took photos for insurance purposes, as I'm more concerned about split system inverters and any electrical components outside and the landscaping has washed away.
I nearly killed myself paddling back and likely destroyed the bottom of the kayak dragging it through shallow water but now we're safe at my parent's place, who despite being cut off at the end of their street, are high and dry. I'll make the trip tomorrow on foot to check in on the place.
I. Am. Fucked.
Who knows what happens now, does it go up? Does it go down? Who knows.

Jeez NATH45 that's just brutal. So sorry you're going through that. Blizzards and flooding are about the only two natural disasters that hit my area, but have been so fortunate not to experience what you have

I kid you not gentlemen, the flooding has gone. From fleeing like refugees on the 16th in the late PM to kayaking in on the 17th. Walking in yesterday and now driving the Subaru out this afternoon. What a massive few days. I even mowed the lawns this morning. The first picture is from the 16th at approx. 5pm the second, today (19th) at approx. 12pm.

Ugly night... We are away somewhere where there is no aircon. When we went to bed it was still 32 degrees C (90F in Tard) and I put sunscreen on yesterday on the beach... But not on my legs. I now look half lobster.

Heat wave now across Australia. Two weeks ago, it was cold and raining. A week ago, parts of Northern Victoria were blanketed in hail - looking like snowfall, and actual snow in the Alps.

We had hail today that completely blanketed the ground an inch deep. Tonight I had a hoodie and slippers on... In the middle of a Melbourne summer, it's freaking cold... Ironically... Our aircon died last week.

Predicting we may lose power this weekend from it being so cold our older powerline snap.
Getting pissed the weather is reporting feels like instead of the temp. Seeing -40f is scary until you realize it is 10f and they can report it feels like anything they want.
