Ain't never seen Jackie Brown , don't think I'll ever see Jackie Brown. Surprise it made the list though given DeNiro's catalogue of movies and I haven't heard a ton about him in it.

Jackie Brown, even for a QT countdown probably wouldn't rank too high. But it's one I've seen, so I've included it. Surprised it got any other votes. Unless the turnout was minimal?

No the turnout was really good , it got a handful of votes. I think 4. And a few were pretty high.

I threw Jackie Brown and Ronin in at #9 and #10 because they were movies I had seen and I needed to fill space. I’m pretty sure DeNiro was barely in Jackie Brown, no? I haven’t seen it since I was a teenager. Very forgettable movie.
Fun fact: I didn’t really like either of those movies but still put them on my list so that I didn’t have to rank Meet The Parents. God I hated that movie.

I was expecting something like Analyze This to be #10. I guess it could still be another bottom hit. My #10 was Limitless because there's a half dozen or so De Niro movies that look really good that I still haven't seen. Not that Limitless is an undeserving movie itself. Limitless is certainly a bit better than Midnight Run, which I watched last night and loved but decided not to place over Limitless.

I’m not surprised that a lot of people haven’t seen it but it is weird how many haven’t even heard of it.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I watched it. Easily a classic film that I think most people would love that should be a part of everyone's regular film watching activities. I was really confused on how I had never heard of it before. It heavily reminded me of Beverly Hills Cop, which makes sense because it is the same director, but I didn't expect it to have the same classic feel and charm. I definitely recommend it to anyone. One of my good friends actually has Beverly Hills Cop as his #1 movie so I'm definitely going to get him to watch it.

Yeah it was my rec for 🤯 , but then I doubted it was going to make the list so I switched it to Raging Bull. Give me that train scene or the bar scene every day. Love them both so much.

Ah man. I was just about to put a list together for this liberal cocksucker too. Believe it or not, I actually enjoy his movies.
I loved Jackie Brown. Watched this super late at night once and was iffy at the start but then it got fun and good. Another Tarantino gem.

Jackie Brown would make a Tarantino list for me, but no way is it making a DeNiro list.

I think I’m missing some sort of inside joke involving Kid and liberalness. Is De Niro actually super liberal? Is Kid a Trump supporter? What is going on?

I don’t understand why it bothers UT so much. The dude is a massive liberal who is in the middle of a divorce because his political behavior annoyed his ex wife. I’m not making this shit up. He’s a liberal cocksucker who happens to be a great actor.

I didn't submit a list due to not seeing enough De Niro movies, but I completely forgot he was in Jackie Brown. And he has a significant role for the person who asked. My favourite Tarantino film and would have been #1 on my (short) list had I submitted one.

You said it , you said it again and now you said it yet again - who gives a fuck. We aren’t here to talk about his political views or personal life we are here to discuss his movies. If you can’t get it then move the hell along. You made your point of view clear no need to turn this into a repetitive soapbox mission. I hate Kevin Spacey the person but I can discuss his movies without mentioning over and over again I think he’s a piece of shit. I think Mel Gibson is quite the POS but I don’t need to say that or keep bringing it up every time Braveheart or Lethal Weapon comes up.

We are here to discuss movies, but Kid clearly wants to talk about De Niro's political views as well. It clearly shaped his opinion of the overall actor and is thus semi-relevant. Just let him. It may be annoying and blatantly antagonistic, but it's not hurting anyone. In any case, this calls for a new thread! pwcom.proboards.com/thread/2193/robert-de-niro

Well thank you , that doesn’t happen often. I stay out of politics online as much as I can , especially discussion with people whom I enjoy. I come here for an escape from that stuff. Though if a movie touches on political or social situations than I like making those connections find it really interesting. Plus I still watch Home Alone 2 , which is more impressive than still watching Seven or Braveheart. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Jackie Brown was my #10, mostly as a space-filler.
I've seen suprisingly little De Niro movies (didn't want to include comedy sequels).

You enjoy The Kid!?!?!? This is the most shocking reveal in this thread so far. Did you not see me and UT absolutely squash 🤯 and Wife at the latest PW WM?! No? Nobody? Oh, right. Anyways, back to movie talk. I am honestly upset I ran out of time and didn’t get to put a list in. Before he got into politics, he was top 5 for me. So his movies are still pretty awesome for me.

I've always wondered how the meeting went down when Tarantino got this movie green-lit. He was coming off making the definitive movie of the 90s. Anything that remotely sounded like a Tarantino movie was being green-lit and he had a free pass to make anything he wanted. It could have bigger stars, bigger budget, more marketing anything he wanted.
So there's Quentin with all that good-will and instead of going bigger, better, zanier he makes his most grounded movie, Jackie Brown. The entire movie exists as a vehicle for Pam Grier and the mainstream audience really don't know what to make of it.
My take is that it's a Tarantino deep-cut. It wouldn't be the first movie of his I'd recommend, but if somebody was on the fence on Pulp Fiction and thought Tarantino was too zany, I'd recommend this. Tarantino has to make a movie about middle-aged down and outers committing a hustle and playing every side compelling and he does a really good job of it. There's no crazy over the top monologues, no bizarre torture scenes or characters doing a silly dance, it's all grounded and plays everything smart.
De Niro plays against type here. In Jackie Brown, all his years of crime have caught up to him and he's just become this husk who spends the majority of the film on Samuel L Jackson's couch. He has one of the most pathetic love scenes in screen history and when it's time for him to take an active role in the movie it goes so spectacularly bad that it's one of the first things that comes to mind. De Niro is typically a domineering actor, so it was nice to see him show some range here, basically spend 80% of the movie on the sidelines but still be an integral part of the movie.
The only bad (well not so bad) part of Jackie Brown is that I always get Bobby Womack's '110th Street' stuck in my head whenever I think about it.
